Gonna have to agree that a good silencer on whatever weapon you select is extremely important. That would certainly be my hope.

Machine gun would be bad news unless you had a shitload of ammo as most shots miss the target and rapid fire burns through your supply.

Whatever I had, I'd want hollow point rounds, because whatever I hit I want it to stay hit!

As for the safehouse - gonna have to go for a place with solar panels on the roof and a good water tank - plus, if possible, remote control garage doors and a bloody good fence right round. I'm currently doing some real estate work, and every house I look at is evaluated on location, location, location and suitability for survival of a zombie apocalypse.

Yes, I've put some thought into this.

As I've never read World War Z, i've just done a quick, Zombiepedia cliff nots catch up and come to a similar conclusion.

Everyone knows it is best to pick Zombies off in small numbers, when they're in swarming numbers (especially in the millions) there is no point trying to fight them. best case sonario would be napalming then, best chance you have at ending them.

remote bushlands country estates, these are you best bets for safe housing. groups of up to 25 working together to build crops, monitor perimiters and protect women and children from raping hordes.
Big fences, access to firearms and equipment to tend fields. you might last into your 50's this way.

Yeah, me too. I'm upto safe Behind Bars (in the paper back collections). Thet're so dark and twisted, no one is safe from harm and a shallow grave.

I have just finished #80 No Way Out Part 1, so far the series has everything I would expect from a post apocalyptic zombie wasteland. Though I must say I am impressed that there hasn't been a single survival nut in the series.

For the whole Walking Dead type zombies what you really want is zombie killing rooms/areas, ideally you want a very big deep hole into which they can walk themselves and then you burn them. I don't really get the idea of fences other than as a way to divert the zombies to where you want them, and away from where you don't. Setting up pure barriers is just a way to get them to pile up until they overwhelm the barrier, better to encourage them along a different path - oh and why not split them up at the same time? You could create races which would reduce their numbers in any one place to more manageable numbers. Also the use of guns results in a negetive return (other than pure emergencies and even then you still want quiet guns), why not go for flame throwers? Commercial ones run off of lpg or propane gas (neither of which are uncommon) and have an effective range of about 10 metres, mitlitary flame throwers have a range of up to 80 metres! If I wanted to defend a position I would definitely be using fire.

How so? Are you planning on hanging around the zombies? They are way slower than you and after you set fire to it you just need to leg it - though if you are higher than they are then you don't actually have any reason to worry since they can't climb.

To be fair that is only the Walking Dead type zombies - but since they are the only type which is survivable for any length of time it is a good call.

The fence isn't for Zombies, it's to build a barrier that can eventually become a camoflague tool to shield you from other humans. Zombies will only accidentally wonder near you and unless there is noise or they actually see you to keep their attention on you, you'll be safe

Flame throwers are good at reducing mobility, but you need to get too close and they become a Fire hazard, stambling flamingin to this and that, what would a Bushfire without a fire brigade look like?

Strong body armor but flexible like moto X faceshields that don't reduce your visability and then a simple bow or baseball bat can terminate a Zombie that wonders too close and won't leave.

But if you're higher than them and they know you're up there, they're not going to just wonder off, they'll stay with you until you run out of food, then you're EFFED!

A Zombie can wait you out as even the ones that decay into nothing, more will replace them.

Zombies, seem to beable to find large groups of other zombies to help them get you eventually.

Jetpack, inefective over a distance of 20 metre's.

Handglider, dependent on wind and something you need to know how to do and own. i don't even know where you buy one let alone get lessons.

Plane, seriously, how high and wide is your defence platform? helicopter sure, if you know what you're doing but Plane, no chance.

You guys think very small scale ;) I would look at getting to KI anyways, very limited population and once it was cleared of the undead you have a nice little sanctuary. Still pretty convienient to Adelaide so that once you have that secure location you can start to work on Adelaide itself, clearing it out and scrounging for the things you need.

Flamethrowes were designed to deal with zombies :) They are too stupid to not walk into the flames and they cluster into big groups - I wouldn't want to rely on flame throwers for personal defense, but as a form of base defense? Perfect.

This. More of a buffer zone rather than an actual defense. Obviously one would do everything possible to avoid the zombies from actually locating you. Passing the time with a drum kit would be out.

Again, the real estate interest coming through - you'd be looking for:
- a house on a side-street in the suburbs
- ideally at the top of a hill to afford good views (and also because I hypothesize that zombies would avoid walking up hill).

Anyone seriously obsessed with this whole zombie apocalypse thing should also watch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_After_People. Good break down of all the things that would happen that you wouldn't think of right away (propane tanks exploding, nuclear meltdowns, etc.)

We're all very very sad lads, by the way.
