THE Government has told Adelaide United that Hindmarsh Stadium naming rights will be split 50/50.
Naming rights to Hindmarsh could be worth $500,000 a year, compared with an estimated $1 million AAMI insurance is paying for Football Park's naming rights.
Adelaide will now pay $25,000 a match as the Office for Recreation and Sport continues with its review of its owner-operated stadiums, including Hindmarsh, Santos and the SuperDrome.
The review could eventually see the stadium operated by an independent company, but government officials did not discount Adelaide United or the Football Federation SA running the venue as operators.
State Government officials claimed that for the hire fee Adelaide would receive match-day ticket revenue that could be worth between $50,000 and $70,000 a game.
The club also has 20 corporate boxes to sell and revenue from signage around the ground, with the club's office building and gym shed free of rent for the next 12 months.
The new costs effectively mean Adelaide still has the better deal when it comes to hiring stadiums for A-League matches in Australia.
The ORS has also decided to hand Carlton United Brewers a 12-month extension on its five-year contract, which was up for renewal last month. But the CUB deal means Adelaide's major sponsor, Coopers, still cannot sell its product at the stadium. While a point of contention has been Adelaide's inability to cater for its patrons when it hires the stadium, a State Government spokesman said catering was the ORS's only other source of revenue that offsets the operating costs. It is understood the ORS incurred a $500,000 loss last season.
But the ORS was not able to provide information on whether the funds generated by catering had been used for maintenance of Santos Stadium and the SuperDrome.
Meanwhile, the feud between club owners and Football Federation Australia, which threatened to ruin the A-League, could turn into a peace pact after the Joint A-League Strategic Committee met for the first time in Sydney yesterday.
JALSC club representatives, including Adelaide chairman Greg Griffin, met JALSC chairman Brian Schwartz and other FFA directors Joseph Healy and Phill Wolanski.
FFA chief executive Ben Buckley also participated.

I couldn't care less what the stadium is called, hell they could even let Dick Smith sponsor and call it Dick Stadium. I don't care, if it means more money going into football.

Especially as it will always be the 'marsh no matter what else it is called, same as Football Park.

Adelaide should build their own stadium. Only way to get rid of Government interference.

Wait, so if this goes ahead and AAMI get the naming rights, that'll be the third stadium AAMI have sponsorship rights to in Australia? So, if AAMI Park and AAMI Stadium is already taken, what are they going to call it. AAMI Oval? :-k Quite surprised Hindmarsh doesn't sell Coopers. Would love it if the SFS sold Coopers. All we get is watered down VB now. It used to be half-drinkable Carlton Draught. It's only a matter of time before they do a SCG and bring in watered down Carlton MID. :x:-&

I don't bother buy beers at the football any more. Just not worth it. I go to the pub before the game, get a nice buzz, then fill a coke bottle half with scotch & coke, and sip on that during the games. Security is so lax they never both to check. Go back to the pub once the games finished. (and drink my sorrows away more times then celebratory drinking)
