Another good exercise I id with Norm Boardman this year and last, was Turning In Space, which is Chelsea Academy number 18 drill. It is another useful SAP exercise.

It isn't exactly as laid out in 17, but players in the middle have to dribble through a small central grid, so they dribble back through the midfield. One can develop it to emphasise a few coaching points.

One thing I've done is only have about 4 players on the outside to keep them busier and to have more touches. A grid about 35m x35m is good. One needs a small grid of 3m x 3m in the middle for players to dribble back through.

1. Coaching point is for players to receive with the inside of their furthest foot - shielding the ball and almost side on the to the outside of the grid player whose role it is to pass the ball. Somewhere in Gregory Parker's sessions, this is emphasised.

There are about four other receiving techniques if a player does this well with both right foot and left foot. Since I've watched players in Champions League and carefully scrutinised their receiving techniques going forward, this is by far the most common receiving technique.

2. Another coaching point for inside players in the grid, is to keep their head up most of the time as they are dribbling with close ball control. Everton Academy has a technique where a player looks down every third touch and keeps it up for the other two.

This exercise is also performed at Everton Academy. Somewhere it is also in a Dutch KNVB model too.

If there are any coaches responding to this exercise I'll go into further progressions. It is a very useful exercise.

Players also get fit, it simulates game scenarios, players learn the all important receiving technique (I've done this with a lot of adults and unless taught it, few do it inadvertently), players cover a lot of distance, everybody is occupied all the time and players accrue a lot of touches.
