Question - what happens if one doesn't complete one's squad prior to the deadline?

For example - if someone only has 1m left to spend - and his 1m bid is raised by another player shortly before the end of the auction, he won't have time to place another bid and get it 'cleared' in time for week one...

There's one that seems likely to happen before the season starts... :D

You can't bid on any players that come in before the season starts Scouse. You have 4 players so have to wait until Sept 1

Round 2 of the auction starts on September 1st at which we will buy our first player. You will have your choice of player as you have the most cash but if a player is bought between now and the 13th you cannot bid on them so you just have to hope the big signings don't happen in the next couple of days (which they probably won't with spurs holding out on Modric still)

Say there's two left in the bidding as deadline approaches and only one player on the list...

Player 1 has a bid of 4m on that final player, with 5m in the bank (so can't go higher).
Player 2 has one player to pick up, with 5.5m in the bank.
Player 1, having his bid in place, can't add another player to the pool at any point without risking breaking the cap.
Player 2 waits until late on and then pops in his 4.5m bid taking Player 1 out of the game.

Alternatively...
Player 1, figuring Player 2 is going to stitch him up late on, adds an extra player to the pool and waits patiently for Player 2 to outbid him on one of them.
Player 2 has forgotten all about the deadline and is down the pub with his mates. Player 1 ends up breaking the cap and losing points.
Player 2 ends up a player short but its his own fault for getting smashed with his mates.

A fairer system would be to simply say that at the transfer deadline you must have 4 players or less, and at least 1m left in the bank for every extra player required to complete your squad. The player gains nothing from going into the game a man short so long as he hasn't had more to spend than anyone else as a result of his bidding tactics.

Hopefully the scenarios you spoke of don't happen. I might leave an extra 24 hour space so if someone gets taken out of the game late on they can just bid 1m and have the offer immediately accepted - there will be nobody there to outbid them anyway.

The last article I read about Tevez was that he scored and played well against a Malaysian XI, yet I picked him up for 2m. I understand the fiasco which happened last year, but it seems they've ammended it. So why did I pick him up so cheap? Am I missing something here?

I've got 3 players sorted, will get Cisse if no-one outbids me, BUT it's possible I could be outbid and forced to go to the list.

However, if someone does outbid me for Cisse there isn't anyone on the current list that I want. I can't preemptively add another player to the list without risking a points deduction.

How do we get around this? Is it possible to nominate players to be on 'stand-by' without incurring any costs?

EDIT - I do realise the deadlines are far far apart, I just like to stir.
