rumours that there's a strong chance he'll return back to heart in the next few weeks.
He is still a contracted MHFC player as he still hasn't been transferred due to the full fee not being received as yet. The serbian league starts this weekend and no money has yet been paid to heart

I've seen stuff like this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/rangers/9352507/Rapid-Vienna-report-Rangers-to-Fifa-over-Nikica-Jelavic-debt.html and it looks like it's not as simple as: if the transfer fee isn't paid then he reverts back to his old contract at his former club

i'm not sure on the technicalities of it. The rumour is that he'll be returning to heart as there's been a falling out of some sort

I don't see it happening. From what i've been able to gather from Serbian media Red Star have withheld fully paying for Babalj because they don't deem him ready and match fit. Also, the Red Star coach said there are other things they want to pay for immediately and they will pay for Babalj when they want to call him up for a match squad. Red Star clearly have financial difficulties but I don't see the deal being undone, and I've read nothing implying they are prepared to send Babalj back either.

Quote: A bit of breaking A-League news that you might've seen on our twitter account.
Eli Babalj might be on his way back to the A-League after his coach in Serbia Robert Prosinecki was sacked earlier today. We understand Red Star Belgrade are yet to complete their transfer payment to Melbourne Heart. - fox sports football Edited by heart_fan10: 20/8/2012 10:23:05 PM

Shame, as it would have been interesting to follow his progress in Europe. Although, I'm sure he'll get another crack before too long.

The real reason is not his fitness or ability at this stage, but their own financial position. Unless they overcome that hurdle, he won't be playing even if the new coach thinks he is the next Pele.

I know they haven't paid the fee yet - but is it possible Red Star could loan him out until they get the money? If I were Babalj, I'd ask to be loaned out from Heart, maybe to another Serbian, or European club, if he could find one. I'm sure he'd be able to find one in a fairly reasonable league - Turkey might be a viable option perhaps?
