Conspiracy theories are for those with small minds -
Are you saying Collingwood and Carlton killed the game with their previous inclusion - if not then how can you possible justify your comments. Remember the games most successful club was started by Geoff Lord a former Hawthorn President.

Buckley got the largest TV rights deal in the games history - is he the enemy your're talking about?

Why would this draw a universal NO - that is a huge overstatement.

I don't like Wellington but even they are better than SM. Two Melbourne teams are enough for now, the second is struggling as it is why would you add a third underperformer. No Greek teams in the A league!

As a SMFC member with a Heart season ticket i`ll throw in my 2c.

SMFC.
Anybody that labels them as "greek mono ethnic blah blah" is a peawit, go to a game and you`ll see otherwise. The stadium is great but the behind the goal areas are a long way from the pitch. Crowds are good, between 1200 and 2500 depending who we play, away games are a prob, we had maybe 100 against the bergers last game last year "..our cheesecake shop is better than this.." and we had less than that to witness Ljubo`s brainfart at Hume when they smashed us 5-0 the year before.

HEART.
Slow building sure, but there is a passion there and it`s growing, slowly yes, but it`ll happen, contrary to what has been said here there are lots of families that go and lots and lots of kiddies in red and white, i do think it may take 6 or 7 more years but Heart crowds do love their club AND they work at it, there`s a fanzine called "schip happens" that is very well done and a great wheeze.

THE ENVIRONMENT.
Too little credit is given to Victory for the the work that they have done for the league, they are the benchmark. Football is growing but we need to grow together and embrace the league and nurture it, sectarian infighting is counterproductive. Hate each other on the pitch but work together off the pitch and we will grow.

NSL CLUBS.
Is there a place for them? Prolly not, but i do think we owe them the opportunity to prove that they can be a part of the league if they wish, they were instrumental in building the game in Australia and we shouldn`t ever forget that.

DISCLAIMER.
This was all written after 8 schofferhoffer so the possibility of it being random bollocks is quite high

ON the money

Victory v smfc would be the biggest derby in this country and would truly rival other code's derbies

Melbourne Heart would have 2 pricipal fixtures to feed off

Happy to accept criticism - but they do not create things nor do they make things happen - I can only describe them as an attachment!

Looking at it from many angles and after many discussions - it probably is best that the Heart were the 2nd team and try to build an identity - if smfc were the 2nd team with its prestigious identity - there would be little market for any third team

LOL at the AFL clubs angle - that would really be a setback for the game and dillute its brand

they have their identity and they should stick to

The Big Bash League is a much better suit for AFL and NRL clubs

Football/soccer/wogball has a large and untapped market that has not been touched by the FFA - still lots of work to do

No one will argue that those who do attend create an excellent atmosphere - the problem is that most of it is lost in the oversized stadium because there are relatively few in attendance. The question isn't the passion of the existing supporters, nor - to be honest - is it whether Heart will continue to grow given the right conditions... The question is do they have the time to grow? As has been pointed out, Heart is losing money and is about to lose it's positive terms at AAMI. The increase to the tv payment will help, but it won't put more into the business than this year's sales - and it's hard to imagine them producing that level of talent/sales on a regular basis.

As for the Aussie Open comment - always seems to be a fresh excuse for Heart. Can't blame the weather, the recent results or the 20/20... Let's switch to the tennis.

Bengamin - your level headed approach is rubbing off - And as I said - perhaps there is room for 3 - perhaps a smfc will assist Heart in inheriting an identity - clearly as they are struggling to create one

Ethnic stuff in 2013 should not even be discussed

Flavor and color should as should diversity

Cricket for example - The International tri-series every year and so on - Unlike other international events like Football - Cricket internationals take up a full season - Pakistan will play India 10 times in this country - The same will apply with England and Australia - and they are 100% ethnic to the core - yet the media seems to overlook some major components - hostilities - and severe incidents

Football's strength is its ethnicity in this country - there is a market out there - it may be a ruggedized one - but very loyal and passionate - Football needs to address it and harness it if it is to reach its potential

The reason why the Heart cannot tap into this market (they call it grass roots) is because they cannot engage it

The reason smfc can engage this market is because it is engaged in Grass Roots football via juniors - community - schools - girls etc - the families and p[arents of not just smfc but all the clubs they compete against engage with smfc

They see first hand how hospitable the club is - how it treats all football clubs and their members and their families

So your actually 1 of the 30 supporters of SMFC that goes to away games?
Your club has the worst travelling supporters in VPL
They dont even go to Greek derbies anymore and thats really pathetic and you come on here bagging MHFC.
With all the Media coverage South gets which i a stack more then Heart gets you should be getting 11,000 to Lakeside.
But you dont not even with =
Greek TV
Greek Radio
Google Apps
etc etc

Your club and mine were great once upon a time BUT NOT ANYMORE il be the 1st to stop going to the HAL if either ever enter as it will ruin the HAL.
My wife never went to the old NSL as she never felt safe and never enjoyed going, but now she is the 1st to ask whether i renewed our MHFC memberships she acually enjoys going.
So no HAL back into the dark ages keep it as is NO ETHNIC or RELIGIOUS CONFLICTS.

Wow - this has almost reached the page count of the Melbourne Heart supporters' thread...

Right now, my sense is that FFA will not allow Melbourne Heart to fail in the short term - particularly as the new TV deal is predicated on five games per round. If that means they get some assistance with the fixtures by being given 2 derbies in two out of the next three years, so be it. Given the hype and drama surrounding the derbies, the powers that be at FFA are likely to persist with Melbourne Heart in this market instead of disrupting that with yet another club collapsing (so far, I count NZ/Auckland Knights, Gold Coast, North Queensland Fury - FFA won't want to add to this tally).

I`ll cross that bridge when i get to it, might have to make a half and half scarf.

I used to go to games at Albert park and then Olympic park when i was a young bloke but lost touch a bit when i moved overseas. Work and my own sporting commitments stopped me getting to most games later on but i bought a place in StKilda about 4 years ago and now i go to just about every home and away game.

Love South and buy my membership every year but i`m not a partisan supporter, i`ll go and see PV or Port Melbourne and i always enjoy the cevapi at Knights Stadium. I`ll even pop out and see Mooroolbark or Monbulk. I go to see Victory too, especially now that Ange is there but i despise Etihad and won`t go there.

The irony of labelling SMFC supporters "bitters" is just unbelievable.

"Bitters" by definition don't want to be part of the A-League, they want the end of the A-League.

Here we are wanting to be part of the A-League and we are labelled "bitters"?

What better endorsment of the A-League than that SMFC would like to be part of it?

And by the way does me being labelled a "bitter" mean that I should label you a "new dawner"?

I am laughing at the fact that you feel determined make others believe that south has no commercial aspect

I am laughing at the fact that you and other seems so keen to focus on south with nonsence - yet avoid the real issues surrounding the Melbourne Heart

And the trolls laughing about this being longer than the heart supporters thread, should check out how active the forums at mhfcsupporters.com are.

For what it's worth, I think south could be viable as a 3rd option in 10 or so years as a fresh bid with a loose association with the current SMFC
