This one was kept pretty quiet. Abe passed away on Australia day. You might also know Abe as playing the judge in the Pauly shore movie Jury Duty and a fast food chef in the movie Good burger. but will pretty much be remembered for the Godfather and Barney Miller. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/27/arts/television/abe-vigoda-actor-of-godfather-fame-dies-at-94.html?_r=0Edited by Timmo: 4/2/2016 02:53:54 PM

Maurice White founding member of Earth Wind and Fire https://www.yahoo.com/music/earth-wind-fire-founder-maurice-223647351.htmlQuote: NEW YORK (AP) — Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White, whose horn-driven band sold more than 90 million albums and made hits like “September,” “Shining Star” and “Boogie Wonderland,” died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, his brother Verdine said. White, who was 74, suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and had retreated from the public even as the band he founded kept performing. “My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep,” Verdine White, also a member of the band, told The Associated Press on Thursday. “While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.” Earth, Wind & Fire, a nine-piece band centered featuring the two White brothers, singer Philip Bailey and the distinctive horn section, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. The band’s most successful period started with the 1975 album “That’s The Way of The World” and continued through the rest of the decade. Other hits included “Serpentine Fire,” “That’s the Way of the World” and a cover of the Beatles’ “Got to Get You Into My Life.” White publicly revealed he had Parkinson’s at the time of the band’s Hall of Fame induction, but he had shown symptoms of the neurological disease back in the 1980s. He stopped touring with the band in 1995 because of weariness from the road combined with his health problems. White said in an interview with The Associated Press in 2000 that he wanted the band’s music to inspire instead of just entertain. “That was the whole objective, to try to inspire young people to believe in themselves and to follow through on their ideas,” he said. “We’ve touched so many people with these songs.” A former session drummer, White founded the band Salty Peppers in the Chicago area in the late 1960s and had some modest success in the Midwest. After relocating to Los Angeles and ditching all of the band members except Verdine, he renamed the outfit Earth, Wind & Fire after the three elements in his astrological chart. Bailey’s bright falsetto defined many of Earth, Wind & Fire’s hits. “We experienced pure magic together,” Bailey said during the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, standing next to White. The band’s early sound was jazzy, but evolved into an exuberant, horn-driven mix of jazz, funk, gospel and Big Band music. Their appeal wasn’t just on records but on stage, their concerts a whirl of dancing, fog machines, multi-colored lights and glittery costumes. Earth, Wind & Fire performed everywhere from the Super Bowl to the White House. Maurice White also had a substantial side career producing other artists, including Barbra Streisand and Cher. In the 1970s, he co-wrote and co-produced the Emotions’ No. 1 hit “Best of My Love.” White was born in Memphis in 1941, the son of a doctor and grandson of a New Orleans piano player. He showed musical gifts at an early age, studying at the Chicago Conservancy. During the 1960s, he backed Muddy Waters, the Impressions and others and worked as a session drummer in Chicago.

Viola Beach: Four members of British band and their manager 'killed after car plunged 25m into canal' Tributes pour in for up-and-coming band The deceased, who are understood to be members of band Viola Beach, were killed in the capital Stockholm on Saturday. A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that five British nationals died in a car accident in Sweden on February 13. "We are in contact with local authorities and supporting the families at this very difficult time". ] Local police said divers recovered the bodies of the crash victims - who were all men - after the vehicle plunged more than 25m (82ft) from a highway bridge into the canal. Tributes have been pouring in on social media for the band, who were from Warrington, Cheshire. The Nissan Qashqai the group were travelling in crashed through the barrier and into the canal after the bridge had opened to let a boat pass underneath, Swedish police said. The bridge, at the Saltskogs junction between the E4 and the E20 motorways, has a middle section that rises directly upwards without tilting, leaving a gap that the car drove into. A barrier, 50m before the opening, has flashing lights and signs warning there is a bridge opening, the officer handling the case said. Inspector Martin Bergholm said: "For some reason, the car drove through the barriers and crashed down into the canal." Drivers of other cars were waiting behind the barrier but it is not yet known whether a boat had already passed or was waiting to pass. He added: "The witnesses just saw a car beside them and kind of disappear." Mr Bergholm said it was not yet known whether the five men, aged 20-35, were wearing seatbelts but added: "That would not have helped them." Police received a call at about 2.30am and were first to arrive on the scene, a "maximum five minutes" later. Mr Bergholm said: "Police arrived first, then the fire brigade who came with fire brigade divers at the scene and found the car and three bodies. "We didn't know how many people there were in the car but we found out there were five. Later on, about an hour later, the police divers came and found two more bodies." The men were all identified using their passports they had on them and Swedish police are working with the Foreign Office global response centre. He said the case would be transferred to a specialist traffic incident team on Monday. Dates for the post-mortem examination have not yet been confirmed. Tributes to the four-person band have been paid on social media. British band The Enemy wrote: "RIP Viola Beach and their manager. Such incredibly tragic and sad news. Thought with the friends and families of all involved x." In a recent interview with newspaper Liverpool Echo, the band listed The Coral, The Zutons and The Beatles as their influences. "There's a few great new Liverpool bands like Hooton Tennis Club and Clean Cut Kid. The Vryll Society are amazing as well, they're on the Blossoms tour too," they said. "Liverpool's a great city man, the history behind the music from there is great. "I love the cool little bars sprouting up aswell. "Being from Warrington it's always either Manchester or Liverpool for things like gigs and big nights out as we're directly in the middle of the two. "Which we're definitely lucky to have I'd say," they added. The up-and-coming band were on tour and due to play a string of dates at venues across the UK. They were scheduled to play at the Boiler Room in Guildford on Saturday but the gig was cancelled. Manager Craig Tarry is understood to be the fifth person in the car. http://www.independent.ie/world-news/europe/viola-beach-four-members-of-british-band-and-their-manager-killed-after-car-plunged-25m-into-canal-34451761.html
