What's the QLOC? My memory of the various debates regarding the WC bid was that people had bizarre notions of what was possible, and I set them straight with a shot of realism. Also, people appeared to have no understanding about the AFL's long term lease over the MCG, or the fact that Etihad was privately owned and that it had been built 100% with private money, initiated by the AFL using the proceeds from its sale of Waverley, which it too had owned and had built with its own money. Soccer people wanted something for nothing - and the AFL quite rightly said: you ain't getting something for nothing. Also, my memory is that I was the only one to correctly predict Australia getting one vote. I copped a lot of abuse for that. Which is weird, copping abuse for being correct. This post alone should be enough to see you banned. You proved what an enemy of football you are right then Why? Because I don't know what the QLOC is? The mere fact that you would go to the extent of collaborating with the Qatari's was beyond what anyone could consider reasonable.Their German PR team lapped it up and within a fortnight it became a major issue in our bid. You were sprung. It was worse than anything you did on bigfooty. Why are you here? You see football as a second class citizen and attack it at every chance-by my reckoning over 10,000 times.Every word you type is filled with poison for our code. The fox ratings thread is designed to show how insignificant our code is in Australia-again and again and again.Any talk about the AFL is to show how how rich and powerful the code is compared to football-AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. You are only here to push an agenda, that is anti-football and pro AFL.

What an honor for these AFL players to train with their heroes, to share the same field with some of the best footballers they will ever encounter.

Again, it's nothing more than an ALF PR exercise for the self deluded ALF supporters and media. Manu FC can buy GWS with their pocket money and still have something left over.

Perhaps Sheeds is planning on poaching Rooney or RvP to play at Full Forward for GWS? You know on the basis that when they see those short shorts and the big men fly on a Sat'd'y arvo they'll be wetting themselves to have a go in the ALF. Edited by obvious troll: 30/1/2013 11:20:16 AM

I noticed Mister Football has moved the goal posts once again and ignores evidence that he can't argue against.
Clearly a Fundamentalist who is not worth arguing against

In theory, yes, but in reality, they can't beause the AFL does not have a private ownership model.

Not the biggest or bestest in world as the deluded would have it. In fact and in value terms, Manu FC are worth more than the entire ALF.

That might be true, although interestingly, Richmond's $3 million profit is probably more than what most of the big clubs make in profit, since they all run at losses, are absolutely riddled with debt and are kept afloat by wealthy private benefactors.

Not might be true, it is true about Manu and the ALF. Big world football clubs don't need to make a profit to exist and expend all they can to get bigger, richer and more powerful. You see in football, the world is the limit. In ALF half a divided country is.

This thread was supposed to be about a code battle in Sydney's west, people are talking about the World Cup bid, GWS v Suns games, AFL and Vic Police deals, Netball, womens sport, Manchester United, University Football club,NRL membership numbers, AFL TV ratings and thats only after glancing at a couple of pages.
If you want keep the thread going, well that's great, then you can go to extra time and talk about it there as it seems to have very little reference to Australian Football.

This exactly. The first sporting club to completely embrace this idea will inevitably challenge the strength of all others. Newcastle have attempted it but they simply are not in the right market. If say a Collingwood decided to approach the FFA with a business model to have a franchise in the A-League and W-League maintaining the brand and colours they would absolutely smash it. The supporters off the district and club would no doubt embrace these new teams as they are in the of season of the existing team etc etc. It would not need stop there, NBL even. It is cross merchandising that would take them to another level, locally and internationally which at this moment they are removed from. It works for Real Madrid.... Just a thought. Similar to what they did yes, but it was not done correctly then. The identity of say, Parramatta Power was not in fact Parramatta Eels etc etc. The key word I use here is BRAND, how did Parramatta brand the 2 clubs in line with what I said? Have a look at Real Madrid, the teams even share the same website, emblem.....get it? Also, I am probably older than you, but I'd like to have the body of a new dawner \:d/

The skill required in their respective endeavours is incomparable. I can't even begin to imagine how lowly the AFL would be ranked if other nations took it seriously or knew about it. The gulf in technical and tactical development after more than a century would be astonishing and, quite frankly, embarrassing. We place too much emphasis on fitness in almost every type of ball sport in Australia. In any case, at just 178cm, Tim Cahill had one of the most impressive leaps at the peak of his career. The AFL could be a very entertaining sport if it adopted a serious culture. The days of constantly fumbling the red ball in the world's top flight competition would be over. For now, it remains a messy display of athleticism for placid onlookers.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

The onus is on other nations to stop taking the easy route and attempt to master the most demanding team sport on Earth. But the honest truth is that they are not up to it. They don't have the character and mental strength for it.

If there is overwhelming demand for me to depart 442, then you can rest assured that I would accede to that demand, however, I remain committed to the many 442 readers who have offered me great support over the years and who get great enjoyment from my quality posts.
Then there is the fact that people learn so much from what I post, it's difficult for me to let that educative role slide.
I'm quite torn, to be honest.
