Righto here we go;

Here is a map of where the ground is so people know what I'm talking about in some photos (central of City based suburbs):

These are all clickables as they are quite large and didn't want to swell the page;

These pictures are of the surrounding streets (Burke/Paxton etc) as you can see they are full! Had a lot of families walking out to these post-match.

The rest are just pictures in and about the grounds, as you can see the pic of the grandstand it's pretty much full, lot's of the lower and outside areas had heaps of families in there as well.

And a random video I took, just after we scored (was busy taking pics fffffffuuuuuuuuu-);

Well fuck.

Fuck me. Where to start?

Guess we will start with the metric that Australia makes most important for our code; the fans.

Fucking great crowd, very interesting to see the Bully's count in tomorrows paper as they didn't announce it at the ground however the Grandstand was pretty much full plus all the lower seating areas had family's all over them.

According to this the stand can hold 1500 on its own, would hazard a guess that there would of been at least 2000 there today.

The level of support from a sponsorship level etc looks miles ahead of what we had in the QSL, this to me, made me feel like the NPL *is* a second division. Ofc it's early days and this was our first home win, we might go on to suck for the rest of the season and it would be very interesting to see if these people still turn up week in week out. But compared to the sleepy nights of the QSL in seasons past, this was literally light years ahead.

We had local radio celebrities doing all of the call over stuff ala NRL here in Townsville, had people everywhere, merch on sale, bar with $3 beers, food stands selling roast meat sangas like hot cakes (and even put out free food platters towards the end of the game at the bar), kids/families EVERYWHERE draped in both old and new shirts, flags, hats, caps etc. Just really good to see but alas with all the people came Security...

Had the same old G+T flogs that do/used to do the Fury/Cowboys games from Dairy Farmers, seemed way over the top with their presence (and I can see that they didn't know how big this would be) but on first walk through I counted a minimum of 12 people in and around grounds including 2-3 on the gate. Admittedly we had no problems with them whatsoever until after the final whistle where we wanted to take a photo with the lads/banners and they were chippin' us about one lad hoping over the fence to take the pics, complete wank material really.

Now, the team.

Another holy fuck.

We play out the back! Not one long ball played on purpose (under pressure through balls cleared don't count). We played better then HAL standard NQ Fury and I can easily say that. Yes it was probably a combination of Western Pride being shit as well, but it's hard to save if that's because they are or because we completely dominated them off the park.

At one point we had a spell of possession for well over 10 minutes. We played one touch football out from the keeper, some plays were all of two passes down the wing and we are hooking in fast curling balls resulting in headers and fine saves from the WP keeper. Foz would of blown his load with the tiki-taka that we were playing no joke.

Defense seemed rusty in the first half, I swear we would concede on the counter but our back four tightened up come the second half (we went into half time 2-0) and then we scored again in the second half with a goal of some great lead up play.

Even our corners are good quality, proper inswingers with players making good headers/chances. Then Eddsy came on (player/coach) and we almost lifted another level until our main striker came off. His plays and passes off the wing are still a level a head of your standard State League teams, he is such a gun and a true embodiment of the spirit of this club (to hang around after all that had happened, to start his clinic for youth players and to be the player/coach of the NPL variant of the Fury).

Was good to see alot of people from out of town that I recognized as well, lots of families from Ingham to the North and Ayr to the South, even a couple of tossers around with Brisbane Roar jerseys! :P

All and all I was thoroughly impressed, got two home games in the coming two weeks against QAS (should be easy points) and Palm Beach (should snatch a win there as well).

I think if we keep the wins up at home then the crowd will stay and the money can begin to flow.

Also found out today that Membership packages are now available @ $250.

Will post some pics up when I get the chance.

You're kidding .

Olde Englishe lump it to the carthorse of a centre forward and try to win the knock downs, defenders who just give the ball away into vacant space in the channels.
Front players told to press the oppo when playing out but the rufc midfield is so lazy that oppo plays thru them with such ease, unable to defend to set pieces extraordinary number of unchallenged headers in the box. Play too narrow, simulation for penalties ref got wise after one. It does put perspective on the league when they are near the top.

The National Premier Leagues action continues right across the Sunshine State this weekend.

Stay up to date with the Round 4 preview.

Olympic FC (1st) v Palm Beach Sharks FC (7th)
Friday, 5th April 2013 – Goodwin Park, 8:30pm

Palm Beach travel up the M1 for the third time this season when they kick-off the fourth round of NPL fixtures against league-leaders Olympic FC on Friday night.

Sharks head coach Oscar Langone described the mood in his squad as positive after the side secured their first three points against QAS before the Easter break. However, Langone also admits his team will receive a better indication of their progress against a free-scoring Olympic outfit in stunning form.

For his part, Olympic head coach Jim Bellas claimed his side’s impressive early season results are borne of hard work and dedication, and that the matches were more evenly contested than scores have suggested.

In an interesting twist to the fixture, former Olympic forward Alex Panic is due to make his first appearance for Sharks on Friday night.

Panic scored for Olympic in their last round win over Strikers and departs with the blessing of his former club, who have also strengthened their squad over the Easter break with the addition of CarlTabulo from Brisbane Premier League club Rochedale Rovers.

Brisbane Strikers FC (5th) v FNQ FC Heat (10th)
Saturday, 6th April 2013 – Cleveland Showgrounds, 5:00pm

The first match of the Saturday’s bayside double-header features two sides that should welcome the neutral setting after both conceding seven goals at home in the previous round.

Strikers succumbed to a rampant Olympic side 7-2 at Perry Park, while Heat fell victim to the equally rambunctious Brisbane City 7-0 in Cairns.

Strikers head coach David Large stated his team will return to basics as he seeks to return to the playing style that saw his side claim the maximum points from their first two fixtures.

FNQ FC Heat head coach Martin Docherty admitted he views the game as a chance for both the club’s players and coaching staff to redeem themselves following a poor showing against City last round.

While Docherty admitted he may tinker with his starting eleven, he will continue to show faith in his locally-comprised squad.

Redlands United FC (4th) v Moreton Bay United FC Jets (2nd)
Saturday, 6th April 2013 – Cleveland Showgrounds, 7:30pm

Undefeated Moreton Bay United are hoping to continue their impressive start to the season when they travel to the southern tip of the bay to face Redlands United in the feature match of Saturday’s double header.

Jets coach Terry Kirkham believes his side’s positive results can be attributed to the recently formed club’s desire to prove itself against more established clubs – claiming his team view themselves as “underdogs” every week.

Matt Chandler, head coach of Redlands, agreed that after slotting eleven goals against CQFC Energy in the previous round, his side were right to be considered favourites for the clash, but he said Jets could no longer fly under the radar.

Chandler also suggested home advantage could prove decisive in the first instalment of this burgeoning bayside rivalry.

Sunshine Coast FC Fire (3rd) v Queensland Academy of Sport (11th)
Sunday, 6th April 2013 – Sunshine Coast Stadium, 2:00pm

Sunshine Coast has claimed maximum points from their two away games so far this campaign, and will be hoping to bring their away form back to their home ground against QAS in Sunday’s early kick-off.

Fire head coach Kevin Aherne-Evans acknowledged the Academy offers a markedly different threat to his previous opponents, and remains eager to see how his squad perform against the fleet-footed youngsters.

Aherne-Evans has also strengthened his forward line for the clash adding Japanese import Tahara as well as welcoming 2011 squad member Jason Hicks back to the Fire fold.

Academy coach Josh McCloughan returns to manage his young charges after travelling to Japan with the Sanix Cup squad, bringing four members of the senior QAS squad back with him.

Having seen video of the match, McCloughan was unflinching in his assessment that the Academy performed poorly last round in his absence against Palm Beach; subsequently stated he has worked his young charges hard in training and expects a much improved performance this weekend.

Brisbane City FC (8th) v CQFC Energy (12th)
Sunday, 7th April 2013 – Spencer Park, 3:00pm

Both sides started the year sluggishly due to disrupted preseasons. However, City found their stride prior to the Easter break with a 7-0 win in Cairns, while Energy’s woes continued when they crashed to an 11-2 defeat at Redlands United.

CQFC coach Joe Fenech remains committed to developing his young squad over the course of the season and attributes the vast majority of goals his side has conceded to inexperience and “schoolboy errors”.

In a promising sign for City coach Glen Volker, CQFC will field another youthful back four on Sunday – the oldest player in the defensive line a mere 20 years of age.

City continued their recent form with a comprehensive friendly win against feeder club The Gap during the break. However, Volker is keen to distinguish between performance and results, insisting his side can still improve and will be wary of complacency against the bottom of the table Energy.

Northern Fury FC (9th) v Western Pride FC (6th)
Sunday, 7th April 2013 – Townsville Sports Reserve, 3:00pm

Northern Fury return to Townsville for their first competitive home game in over two years on Sunday when they host Ipswich’s Western Pride on Sunday in the feel-good fixture of the round.

Furry head coach Gareth Edds, who played for the club in the A-League, admitted it would be an emotional homecoming and that his side were keen to repay the support shown by the local community.

Edds also said he was “very happy” with the start to the season despite mixed results in Fury’s opening three games – all contested on the road – and looks forward to the return of several injured players in coming weeks.

Kasey Wehrman’s side are also coming off the back of mixed results, with promising performances in the opening two games negated by a disappointing 4-0 home loss to Sunshine Coast last round.

Wehrman believes his side will be better for the experience, although conceded the club’s first long-distance away game may prove another learning curve for some members of his squad.

Western Pride FC is staking a claim for the hearts and minds of the city of Ipswich and the surrounding western corridor with positive results for the local community.

The club is only 6 months old, and officials admit to harbouring further ambitions, but already Western Pride is well on the way to becoming a fixture of the Ipswich sporting landscape.

Despite a rich football history in the urban corridor west of Brisbane, local footballers previously had to move to the capital or interstate to continue their professional development.

However, Pride General Manager Pat Boyle explained that thanks to the National Premier Leagues emphasis on the elite player development pathway this is no longer the case.

“Juniors are a big part of our club. It’s all about the development of those kids and giving them the chance to progress,” Boyle said.

“Some of the talent in the kids coming through is amazing. And finally they have a product that enables them to stay in the area and stay involved in the game.”

Boyle, who has long been involved in the region's football as a player and administrator, also insisted the club had long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch.

“We have the right business model with the right people behind the scenes to grow this club. There’s certainly no half measures here.”

Sunday saw Pride's junior teams line-up against Sunshine Coast Fire at Eric Evans Reserve, which has recently benefitted from a multi-million dollar upgrade to facilities.

Barbara Dale, manager of the Pride Under-15 girls, was enthusiastic about the NPL’s junior development focus and the complimentary scheduling of games across the junior divisions.

“Last year we had to drive to a different venue to watch the next team. With NPL and Western Pride the games are back to back so you can stay on and support the other teams easier,” Dale explained.

Dale also was adamant the NPL was clear step up in quality and that the juniors were responding well: “The technique is very good, the girls are getting better every week and they are very committed to taking this all the way.”

Madison Baird – pictured with teammates Jazmine McKay (centre) and Kaytlyn Ronan (right) – plays in the Pride under-15’s and was enthusiastic about her first season with newly-formed club.

“I love playing NPL,” she enthused. “The coaches are great and I’ve learned so much already like how to work as a team and where the ball should go.”

Baird also admitted to idolising the play of some of the older girls at the club, an endorsement of the NPL concept and the club’s community minded approach.

“Chloe Williams and Brooke Nielsen in the under-18’s are really good – they have so much control and skill when they have the ball. I want to play like them.”

The boys are also reaping the rewards of the NPL’s all-encompassing approach to player development.

Local school teacher Greg Farrell was once on the books at English League Two side Aldershot Town and now coaches the Pride’s Under-16 boys. He is convinced of the benefits of the NPL structure.

“Because it’s the first year of a new competition, some people were worried how it would go. But so far the standard is good and the boys I’ve got are great – they are really here to play and to learn.” Farrell said.

He reserved special praise for the senior Pride teams player/coach Kasey Wehrman who played for clubs in Norway and represented the Socceroos before ending his professional career with Newcastle Jets in the A-League.

“Kasey has been brilliant," Farrell gushed. "I’ve learned more in a couple of months working with him than I have in a long time working with other people.”

“I had some great coaches in the UK, but Kasey has the personality and the approachability as well.”

“He took some sessions with the under-16’s and the boys all enjoyed it. If they had a question they would ask and he answered them well.”

Under-15’s player Harrison Diehm, was also enthusiastic about the benefits of having Wehrman around the club.

“Kasey’s been down to training. Teaching us how to improve and showing us some set pieces.”

Diehm was also under no illusions in regard to the National Premier Leagues elite player pathway mantra.

“This is the foundation of becoming a professional footballer,” he explained, “If you want to become that then this is where you start, in the NPL.”

“It’s good fun playing at a top level in the division below the A-League – it’s really great.”

It’s not just the football faithful responding to the club’s presence in the reion. Local resident Brian Plant chose Sunday to attend his first ever football match – watching the youth and senior sides compete at North Ipswich Reserve.

“We were just driving past and saw the crowd and thought we’d come in,” he explained.

“It’s certainly a good thing that they are using this facility. This is the home of Ipswich football and the people who come here to watch rugby league will go over and watch the soccer as well.”

“It’s truly a good thing for the city and the people,” Plant surmised.http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-9385-0-0-0&sID=269940&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=22891191
