Hi All, This has been in the pipeline for a while but the new FourFourTwo Performance site is now live http://performance.fourfourtwo.com/auThere will be local content going up there in due course but for now there's a huge reservoir of content there from some of the biggest players, coaches and clubs in world football. There's also a link to this forum on the nav bar of the new site. Hope you enjoy this addition to the FourFourTwo Australia family :) Cheers Andy Edited by Andy Jackson: 1/2/2013 01:03:05 PM

I read at least 3 articles, and I'm still a terrible footballer.
What gives?

It's probably not as high brow or with the quite same production values as the UEFA site....but then we don't have their budgets to work with!

With the 1v1 Coerver exercise introduced by world Coerver head on the site link, Alf Galustian, the exercise is good for the two protagonists in the middle playing the 1v1 game. However, there are too many inactive players for mine.
The same with one of the Skills Acquisition Program drills for a 1v1, which is based on a Coerver exercise. This was shown at last weekend's SAP session for rep coaches in Tasmania. Players line up to wait their turn for too long. I suggested this to the SAP trainer. With our group, we ensured the players standing in a line had to perform stationery ball techniques, usually 1v1 moves, whilst waiting turns.
The 1v1 model I prefer, is to have just two players involved. Play is started by alternating the two players kicking/serving the ball in from each end to the other player at the other end. It is anaerobically challenging, but there are a lot of touches and a lot of active play. It is also a great fitness/conditioning exercise.
However, it is fantastic that 442 are putting these peprfrmance videos on this site.
Good stuff, Andy.=d>

http://performance.fourfourtwo.com/technique/master-technique-combination-playsThis is a good drill. It can also be done with a little bigger area. There is a extension or progression to this exercise. It is called the second phase of the four phase training ground program in the FFA national Curriculum proforma for the C Licence, Positioning Games. It is the first Dutch Ajax drill in Dirk Van Adidas's Academy sessions from Europe. it works superbly in on the training track. I did it a lot lass year with the Community Football Program. Since I'm spending so much time writing via PM, Andy, I have forward this link to the people you wanted me to mate.
To the best of my knowledge it will be placed where you were hoping it would appear.:)

The reaction speed drill introduced by Alf Galustaian is a waste when the players pick the ball up with hands, but the foot skill part of it is good.
A variation on this drill could be designed, to make all of it having players run with the ball with their feet.

Great section Andy, Decentric I always have a chuckle when reading your post a couple of quick questions for you. How much exposure have you had with Coerver? Why aren't you further up the coaching ladder?

Hi mate
I've had a lot of exposure to Coerver - they're our global technique partner for 442 performance and we are partnering with them to run clinics in Sutherland. It's a fantastic programme that has evolved from the predominantly isolated repetitions - it focuses on the four core skills and progresses quickly to limited and then full pressure - it's no secret FFA use Alf Galustian as a skills consultant for the SAP content.
As for my own coaching...I'm only 6 years in so just starting out and I have an all consuming day/night/weekend job. I'm lucky that that job is in football so whilst I don't get to spend as much time coaching as I would like my job allows me to expand my "football knowledge" every day and be around great coaches and coaching practices.
I'll start my A-License next year and then see where that takes me.
Glad you're enjoying the Performance section.
Cheers
Andy

The Skills Acquisition Program has the excellent technical qualities of Coerver trained players, with augmented game sense ( Insight). Thinking Coerver players if you like. As Andy says, Alf Galustian, world Coerver head, was the major adviser for the SAP in Australia.

There has been a lot of good pre-season stuff, even useful for the regular season, in the February magazine.
It is useful for most age groups, probably down to age 11.
Also, they are useful in one's four phase training ground proforma, the first phase of training - Warm up/Passing Practice/Technique Practice.
The week four needs some adjustment to keep players active all the time. For instance, the players standing in a line, need a ball to practise stationary techniques with whilst waiting a turn. Or reduce the number of players in a station, to 2.

I've just been looking at Ron Smith's Possession With Forward Possession exercise.
Initially, I thought it seemed like a decent exercise.
Then I thought, when one gets to up 8v8, it is better to have the prescribed positions and roles allocated to them and play in prescribed positions at this stage of training.

I've just looked at another of Ron Smith's exercise, Playing Out From The Back. It seems really good and is an extension of what a state youth coach was doing with me and the rep team I coached for this year's campaign. Ron has also trained some local staff coaches for FFA. They speak very highly of him in a past epoch.
Ron also has a good Positioning Game, that uses four passing options. At last year's FFA Regional Conference this one was demonstrated in some of Barcelona's games.
One other thing is to get your CBs moving as quickly as possible to each side of the D on the edge of the penalty box as soon as the keeper receives the ball.
Thanks Andy for putting this one up!=d>
