It's a fair comment to say that the public interest is disproportionate. The whole 'I'm a better human being' rubbish is RedKat's own hyperbole.

Well anyone who doesnt think that the presence and actions of US, Nato and Israeli military in Muslim countries has an affect on continuing a never ending cycle of bloodshed is deluded. Most of these attacks are a response to something...the why it happened always gets lost in the what and who.

The US needs to withdraw its military to a purely Defensive posture...for decades they have been on an offensive play to borrow their sporting lingo. Smarter would be to pull back and leave the world to its own business.

Lyndon Johnson was right to warn of a military industrial complex...the world is their playground at this point...solutions to problems they create hence the cyclical nature of it all, never ending till some president withdraws either by choice or necessity. Hopefully it doesnt come to the latter...i guess that is the thinking of militants, either try and bankrupt them first or failing that fight the battle on their turf. The reverse of Bush and Obama's response to 'fight them there so we dont have to here'...

Public interest in the West about a Western terrorist attack... I'm sorry, you've picked this moment because you wanted a bit of attention; it is a wholly unfair comment to say that public interest is disproportionate in the wake of a terrorist attack on Western soil. The social and political juxtapositions just don't arise with Middle Eastern attacks.

Blacka, I agree completely, but the motive for the attack, and any resultant discussion on policy, should be saved for a little while yet. I think what frightens me is that one group of people seek to, "fight them so we don't have to," the other thinks we should intervene to the (apparent) benefit of these people because, "we know what's good for you." Let them forge their own path. If a despot has to be removed for murdering its citizens, let international law dictate.

I think we both know that the number dead had nothing to do with the coverage of both of these events. One was a terrorist attack that took place in a global city at a huge event. The other took place took place in a war zone.
I'm not at all trying to say that the bombing in Iraq isn't tragic, in fact I'd say its more tragic given how many casualties there were. However, it isn't worldwide news that a bombing took place in Iraq.

OK then...the West gets out of Muslim countries and Islam gets out if the West. Fair trade?

I'm not being funny but can we have a bit of a warning about these things before you post them? This isn't the sort of thing I'd like to see ever, let alone before twelve.

Ignoring the part about the Israeli military in 'muslim countries,' you're saying the US should completely withdraw and thus allow Islamic fundamentalist regions to get stronger on their own and thus in the long term pose a greater threat to the US? Its far from solely a hatred of the US in their countries, its a hatred by narrow minded groups who hate the west for not having their ideas and the US is stereotypically the west.

I feel like i havent expressed this point well at all.

Yeah! They hate the West cos they're Western and shit, fuck freedom, fuck the USA, down with the white man! :-"

I thought humanity had progressed past this. I really did. How anyone could be so stupid... so gullible... makes me weep.

The one thing that annoys me about people like this is that they think they are better than you because they "question" and they do not "mindlessly follow" like the rest of us sheep

I'm all for thinking for yourself, but this is taking it too far. There's always got to be these assholes who think they are special for questioning events such as Sandy Hook and the Boston bombing. People like Alex Jones and this Chris Spivey guy need to be removed from the public forum. Unfortunately, this will give "truthers" more ammunition to attack their evil government who are trying to take away their rights before some Alien Invasion or something.

Well if u look at it beyond just where the US hegemony approach has led us...

There was a time...and its still possible to recapture it...when the United States was the leading light of liberty and freedom in the world. Now they are seen in many of these countries as warmongers who place the lives of the citizens of muslim countries as less than secondary to their own.

In fact the folks in muslim countries have quite understandably come to see themselves as considered UNPEOPLE by western countries.

The west under the US and NATO have ceded the floor to islamic radicals who these days are seen as standing up for the rights of their people. Which is on some level true, but on another obviously they are much worse than the US on issues of freedom and liberty. But ...when it comes to perceptions in the muslim world...understandably this is no longer seen to be the case.

Given the demographic shift in muslim countries ....which is the opposite to the west...they have massive youth orientated populations...so the opportunity is still there for some sort of liberty based revolutions in these countries. So far things like the Arab Spring have come along at a time when islamic radicals are in the ascendancy ...one can only hope its not gone too far in this direction.

The best thing the US can do for both their own safety and the long term prospects for peace globally, is to withdraw their military to a defensive posture. In fact if their policies continue on as is they are going to need to have more boots on the ground in their home country. I guess this is why they are beginning to now patrol the planet with a mix of drones and the dodgy intelligence that guides them.
