No I stopped refereeing a couple of years ago, just got sick of being treated like a mug by 70% of people. Once I was refereeing a NSW Premier Youth match or Super Youth match, u15s I think, and basically I gave a clear penalty but the goalkeeper didn't stfu so I cautioned him and he said I was shit so I said mate you're just having a wank. Long story short, the kids all went off saying I called him a wanker and what have you, then at the end the coach did not give a damn that his team had just lost I think 3-0 or 4-0, all he wanted to do was have a rage at me bla bla; said something like 'I know people in FNSW, I'm going to make sure you never officiate at this level again' that type of dickhead stuff. He ended up losing his job and being suspended for a few months as did the kid, I reffed the next week. But I just got so sick of that type of rubbish, I bailed at the beginning of the next season :D

As for the NPL, I live up here near Hornsby-Epping type area, there is literally no NPL div 1 teams at all - Manly is half hour drive in no traffic away, even further to Blacktown clubs, inner West ones (APIA, Olympic) are upwards of 45 mins away. It's a damn poor area representation imo, but what can you do if the best clubs all just come from one area then that's the end of it.

I'm just horrified reading this post about the disrespect exhibited from players and a coach towards a referee .](*,) Disgraceful.

At levels lower down, a lot of players really appreciate having a qualified referee. I usually make a point, as a parent, spectator or coach, to thank the ref after the game.

I'm pretty sure refs get a better go in this state, at any level.

Ken Morton has been appointed as Tasmania's state coach, selecting players from the V League, to play Melbourne Victory later this year.

This is a change in policy from FFT . In the past they used to appoint the state TD to coach the team.

My rep team sometimes plays practice games against Ken's crack under 16 squad. South Hobart, under the auspices of the Morton Soccer School, have a good development program.

I probably should add this.

Judy Free invested a lot of money in Sydney FC. He lost it. If anyone had to lose money in football, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. He was an A League lover, but after his financial loss and rejection from elite coaching circles, he retired from coaching geriatric teams of corpulent tubbies.

Instead he has become an internet troll who hates everything about the current Australian football milieu, particularly coaches who pursue the FFA Advanced Pathway, where he was shunned.


Back to the thread topic. There has been a lot of extra media generated by FFT this year. Last year they had a media officer who was not a former footballer.

This year they have a new media guy who has a football background. There is a discernible difference in media coverage. There are press conferences at FFT before and after every game, with most mainstream media outlets attending.

Tasmania will field a rep team to play against Melbourne Victory in a practice game.

It will be a precursor to Victory playing WSW in a practice game straight after the Tas/Victory game.

South Hobart has won the inaugural V League premiership.

They have won it with quite a number of games to spare.

So they will be the NPL Tas representative in the national playoff if Im not mistaken?

...because the Quarter-final Matchups are geographically linked, the Tasmanian team (who would normally play the Victorian team) will receive a bye to the Semis. So South Hobart only need to win 2 matches to become National Champions!
