Personally I have always found the stereotypical galloping queen gay man an uncomfortable caricature, one of my good mates is gay and is just himself, there is no stupid front put up. I can understand that some people are so insecure about who they are that they need to develop a mask between themselves and the world, but why would you then go about promoting doing so as being normal?

Ditto, although I do get a kick out of a bit of OTT gay innuendo every now and then.

The camp, effeminate stereotype exists for a reason. And I've got mates who are gay and are as masculine as the next man, but I still have a predisposition to generally picture the former. It can't be helped.

Just been thinking about this for some reason... the word "gay" is really a silly way to describe someone who is homosexual.

You do wonder though how much of the stereotype is self fulfilling. Especially as a way of marking oneself out as 'gay' to others as an identifying thing. Either that or get a pair of pink sneakers or somethin ;)

But really it is a factor...from picking it up and expressing it subconsciously to even a little deliberately...not going to get much in the way of cawk unless others see u as potentially 'gay'. Having to always tell new people u meet is rather banal if i may use a faggism ...banal lol...

So probably a bunch of factors at play. i think there is some truth in the stereotype and some of it is forced.

Plus there are also camp and effeminate straight men apparently, or at least Rick Santorum does insist he is straight...and Christopher Pyne et al...

Either way i fully welcome Bret Easton Ellis in homodom, fine alternate style gay role model for da kids lol.... =d> ...someone to tear the gay establishment a new a-hole at regular intervals...a few figurative american psycho style pipe and gerbil scenes involved no doubt!

They say he is the first "active" player to come out......stupid thing is that he is a Free Agent as of now (his team wasn't even near the playoffs) and at his age (34 and not even an average player) and the way the NBA is going (less of the bigger Centers, more of the Power Forward Centers) the likelihood of him getting another contract was small even before all this came out (excuse the pun). Now if he had made this announcement 2 or 3 years ago it would truly be an amazing thing because he would have been a more active player. Don't get me wrong, it's great for him to make this announcement, but it's not as big a breakthrough for homosexuality as some people and media outlets are claiming.
