Want kind of crowds will they get when they start to lose
Bandwagon fans bigf time we will still have 13k+ at every game regardless when we start to lose a few. ill be going to every game possible, regardless how they go this year. not every wanderers fan is a bandwagoner; alot of us took a strong interest in the club when the forums were being held in western Sydney - when we were tipped to get belted in the a-league! now walk away child.

I don't want to upset you, but selling memberships does not guarantee bums on seats. Just so you know.

Response from Club on Adelaide Reds wesbite re a question asking for a membership counter Quote:Membership & Merchandise Hi Jerry
Yes , we will get one done. We have had a promising start with some 3,374 joining to date - 2012/13 Total 4,696.The number and type of membership offer varies from Club to Club in the A League. As such it is very difficult to make accurate comparisons. At this stage our Membership includes the various forms of Season Ticket Holders and AUMCInc only.

FAAAARK! Looks like it will be a members only stadium!! No, they are going to cap membership in the 15-16k range. Apparently they have consultants working on their financial model to decide the exact figure. Edited by gyfox: 27/7/2013 12:07:19 PM

So I decided to research into how much cheaper Jerks memberships actually were compared to the Mariners. The Mariners because they are our local rivals that we share a border with, etc. Also because it makes me feel good when I can conclude that the Jerks are better than CCM at something.
So GA unreserved seating, both clubs use the term "blue membership". For a full adult membership in blue, CCM is $195 and Jerks are $120. For gold membership full adult, CCM are $260 and Jerks are $255 (so bugger all difference). I CBF looking at the inclusions in the memberships (getting hats/scarves/keychains/whatever) but I assume it's relatively similar.
So the top notch tickets - CCM are $5 more expensive. They also have a platinum ticket, for three bays somewhere in the top of their stand, which I assume is even more expensive.
The only real way Jerks seem to be cheaper is $75 cheaper for GA tickets. Now if we look at the membership numbers..
Assuming every single membership is a blue GA ticket, for arguments sake as this is the biggest price difference range the two clubs have.
CCM = 3000 x $195 = $585000 Jerks = 6000 x $120 = $720000
The Jerks have double the numbers, and if you listen to every man and his dog "the only reason Jerks have more memberships is Tinkler is giving out nearly free membership tickets!". The Jerks are also making more money out of said memberships - and then they have more people inside the stadium to buy food/drink/merch/general interest.
In conclusion - clubs are crazy not to go with this "cheap" option - which after you raise the price $5-$10 each year like Tinkler is doing, the price difference really isn't that much difference - and people are renewing each year because it's become a habit.

Edited by pv4: 29/7/2013 06:59:43 AM You're right, this is pure MARKETING at it's best. If, that is, the price is the ONLY motivator for the Jerks to be selling more than CCM. When was this pricing structure brought in? Last year? What impact did it have on "pre-marketed" pricing member numbers? That will only be the true measure to see if the Jerks are leaving money on the table. Either way, it's bums on seats.

Pricing structure was brought in when Tinkler took over. There was something like 4 home games left when he took over, which he offered like $20 tickets to, and then the cheap memberships the year after.
Memberships went from somewhere around the 3-6k mark, to 10k then 11k the year after - and I estimate around 8-10k this season after the horrific results last season.

^ CCM then should adopt the same pricing model. The demographic are similar enough to suggest the risk of reducing ticket prices should increase CCM memberships, hence crowds.
They are the "community" club.

IMO every club except WSW and MV should do likewise (not those two as they obviously don't need to).
Sydney and maybe Brisbane don't really have an excuse to get under 10k members because they're a major city - Sydney particularly should be upset if they're less than 15k IMO, it's a disgrace they aren't bigger.
Perth, Heart, CCM, Adelaide could all do as well, if not better than the Jerks

I'm not sure whether you can really do a like-for-like comparison on the GA tiers - at Hunter Stadium you're limited to the hills at either end of the ground, whereas at Bluetongue you can pick from seating on two and a bit sides of the stadium. To me, that's probably worth $75 - about $5/game - over the course of the season (having said that I forked out $350 for a Platinum membership).

To me all that is saying is CCM have better seating options to offer than the Jerks, and fans would get even more worth for their dollar if CCM dropped the prices. Like I am getting at - CCM have had a few successful seasons and are scraping to get 5k memberships. Jerks haven't had a successful season in 5 years - and we are the leading "regional" team in the HAL (I'm ignoring WSW because of the kulcha there - deal with it). It seems so simple to me Edited by pv4: 29/7/2013 09:28:18 AM

Memberships are good but in the final analysis it is the number of fans who pay to attend and the total income they generate that is the important thing for a loss making club. With 5k members and 5k walk ups the Mariners may be better off financially than say having 7k members at a lower cost and only 3k walk ups remembering that walkups pay a premium for their ticket.

Is it so simple though? When you consider that Bluetongue's capacity is 13,000 lower than Hunter Stadium, lowering the price of GA tickets/memberships could result in the club losing money on those seats - a situation that we don't exactly need right now.
