A LOT of lists poor defending there. He has so much space in a lot of those clips. He doesn't seem that quick either, he seems fast over the first couple of yards but doesn't burn the defender much after that.

I do like his touch though, pretty consistently good in those videos. Could live with him if nothing better turned up.

But he's Brazilian, he must be good, der it's common knowledge Heine

Yeah doesn't look to impressive, and if Wiki is correct he has scored 4 goals in 84 games, nothing to gloat about that's for sure.

Here's a fun fact:

Former Brisbane Roar Canadian/Japanese player Issey Nakajima-Farran is currently on loan to the Cypriot club this Sidney bloke is currently playing for (or last played for).

And given his names Sidney, what's he doing in Perth?

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/soccer/17823035/brazilian-sidnei-sciola-moraes-pays-own-way-trial-with-perth-glory/

It's official. I don't think we are past looking for quality that will improve our side, even if it is a c grade Brazilian. It's only a trial and if he has the goods then why not sign him.

I think he actually looked pretty good in the clip, but it is hard to say from a YouTube vid. In saying that it is hard to say he isn't fast because a defender was able to keep up with him!!! Who is to say the defender isn't a speedster. Also saying that he was up against ordinary defense because he was in space isn't really fair either, good players find space. Nagai used to find plenty of space too, but this guy seems to have better touch and awareness of his team mates.

The only way to tell if he is a good fit for perth is to get him into an a-league environment and see how he goes. I'm sure Ali and Gareth will run the rule over him and if he is no good then I doubt he will be signed

The fact that he's playing in Cyprus and wants to play in Australia says to me that he knows his limits and just wants to play football in places with a great lifestyle.

Pretty much every trialist who comes to Australia pays their own way.

Ironically, the only time I've heard of airfares being paid without a player having been scouted first was by Gold Coast.

Surely the signing of McLaren has given this guy little chance of landing a contract at Glory.

Differ positions though. McLaren is there as a back-up for Smeltz and to compete for the CAM spot with Da Silva/McGarry.

Sidnei is a left winger, which we desperately need. We actually have no-one who is comfortable there.

I know nothing of MacLaren's time at Blackburn, however he played as a left sided forward/winger for the u20 wc side against Turkey, did he not? He did pretty well in that role, and I would not be surprised if he was signed as the left sided Harold so we have him, Smeltz and Harold rotating around up front creating problems for the oppositions defensive structure.

Remember, Harold was a center forward (as was Nagai)- the brilliant thing with young talented kids is you can develop their arsenal and mould them to what you need.

MacLaren isn't naturally a wide player. He was a central striker for Blackburn. he isnt bad at holding the ball up, but likes to get on the end of things and has a wicked turn on him when he receives the ball with his back to a defender. but I'm not sure what your source is on Nagai, because he was always a wide player who could play CAM if required, much like Tommy Oar.

I agree with Harold, however that is always the way in the A-League. Young fast kids excel in youth ranks, but struggle for regular goals as a striker when they play HAL, without the muscle. Djite, Leckie, Simon and Babalj are examples of guys who came through that can actually play striker at senior level. The rest of them just get converted to wingers, see Zullo, Kruse, Rukavysta, Burns, Petratos and even Mitch Nichols was a striker when he started playing HAL.

The man himself blogged and tweeted (admittedly in Japanese, but I assume Google Translate isn't so bad as to get that wrong) about the difficulties of moving from center forward to the wing and developing an appreciation for the position. He was a CF that couldn't break into the spot at Cerezo and sent off to develop elsewhere. Apparently had an attitude problem at his parent club too.

It's also worth considering that we still have absolutely no idea how Edwards wants to set up, and likely wont until either the community friendlies in the next few weeks or the trip to South Africa.

Yep was definitely a centre forward, although I think it is obvious that left sided attacker is his best position. On glory's website Ali mentioned that Maclaren was equally confident playing centrally or as a wide player!!!

It's funny a lot of people still questioned is Ali would stay true and play the youth, but with the squad he is assembling he is going to have a very young side. Considering the amount of time smeltz and burns have spent on the sidelines perth could be fielding some very young sides!!!

I suspect it was more a case of good guy Miron telling Clive this is how you do it... And Clive being clueless enough not to check with any of the other owners to see what they paid. Quite possibly changed in the final season when they were pinching pennies.
