Twin Peaks was cancelled due to the resolving of the Laura Palmer Murder, it was cancelled as everyone stop watching as they tried to keep the show going without the Palmer Mystery at its Core. Ah I see. Not that I'm that into trying new shows these days but do you think it's worth watching? yes, David Lynch took TV to a whole new plain with Twin Peaks, Season 1 was excellent and season 2, though good leaves you happy that it ended. take the time to watch as much of it in one sitting then watch the film and it ties it all up nicely. You'll end up dreaming of people talking backwards though.

Any show that petered out before it was resolved. Flash Forward comes to mind, Heroes as well. Must be difficult for writers to plane a story arc, not knowing if the show will take off. A short arc that becomes successful means there is nowhere to go, a long arc that doesn;t take off leaves things unfinished.

rocknerd wrote:Really? I was a huge fan but the show lost its direction around season 5 and just limped along until season 9 where even Fox Mulder couldn't be arsed. The Subsequent film was even a hollow gesture of a once former Awesome show. Add Pushing Daisies And Dead like me, though, Dead like me was only Awesome whilst the shows creator was involved and not being drawn away from its original premise by Sony execs. If it went back to its original premise and got away from the conspiracy storylines that eventually killed it

Season 1 was ground breaking but whether it was the writers strike or just a lack of talent in the writing room, too many plot holes began to grow and even the comic book tragics gave up on it. Treating your fan base as idiots doesn't end well. The best example is where is Caitlin and why doesn't Peter Care that he left her in an ultimate time and history of earth? Revolution on the other hand is a show that should have been axed yet seems to be rating well even though it doesn't follow any scientific reasoning what so ever and is the same ep over and over.

Fawlty Towers wasn't axed or cancelled - Cleese split up with Connie Booth between series 1 and series 2 and didn't want to write series 3 without her as he didn't think he could keep the quality up.
Similarly, Boston Legal was never meant to go any longer.
Twin Peaks was cancelled due to falling viewing figures once the novelty wore off. The reveal of the killer's identity was an attempt to pull the figures back up. Those who worked with David Lynch claim that if the network hadn't forced the issue Lynch would have gone for years without ever providing a solution to the case.
My personal call would be for Seinfeld. They could have gone on forever if they wanted to.

Never seen such a great show fall from grace so hard. That Caitlin F up was hilarious. By the time I stopped watching, every second episode would kill off one of the main characters in an attempt to boost ratings.... Only for every single one to always be brought back to life with some pathetic excuse soon afer. ](*,) (It wasn't really him who died, He got injected with immortal blood, she had an identical twin sister etc etc). Apparently it's in talks to be brought back soon with an entirely new cast (and hopefully new writers). Needs more subtlety, better character development , better dialogue and a slower pace this time. Given that it has a large cast and each season revolves around a climatic finish, they could learn alot from and even mould it around Game of Thrones which does these things perfectly.

No I agree with both of you. My point was, as bad as the show might have become, it ended without a resolution. So even if you stopped watching regularly, at some point you think, hey what happened in the end? and when the answer is, well, they just stopped, that shits me.

For me the only thing that could've saved it for a few more seasons was if Tara came back and she and Alan stirred up some saucy shenanigans every second episode or so. Tara was an excellent character. And Rhona Mitra is a fucking babe. Photos don't do her justice. +1 was a great show with epic dialogue and a fair few babes!

I'd add Tru Calling to the list of "wish they hadn't been cancelled" list. It was just starting to establish an interesting overall, series-long story arc when it had the rug pulled from under it's feet.

I know! they were going to go on a whole
Tru's Boyfriend becoming a sociopath because he lived when he was supposed to die Tru, needing Presiely's help in killing him to save many lives and a real matrix of life and death and how it all intersects.
I loved this show as it was a great replacement for Buffy. Angel should be added to this list as Joss tried to bluff the studio into giving them a season renewal and they decided to just cut it rather than continue on with the series. Though it does end awesomely!

IT Crowd is having a special one hour finale in the near future. Spy has been cancelled unfortunately as far as I'm aware. Thought I read something about it a few months back. Outnumbered he been renewed for a 5th season this year.

I really liked the concept of Flash Forward and was disappointed it got axed, thought it had potential.
Rome was another one, brilliant show, brilliant cast, and a loyal following but IIRC it was costing HBO a fortune to produce.
