If I rank performances I've seen live that stand out (and were not in the HAL), the best I can recall are:

Demy de Zeeuw in that Netherlands vs Socceroos game a few years ago.
Michael Thwaite in the 7-0 win vs Soloman Islands in Sydney in 2006 WC Qualifier.
Aaron Mooy in an Olyroos game in Newcastle a couple of years ago (forget who they played, Hoffman scored one or two)

Best performance for me was Rooney against Celtic in 08. Never seen a guy run the show like that before.
