Scottish champions Celtic are reportedly keen to sign Shane Lowry from Millwall.

Manager Neil Lennon has identified the Australian as a potential replacement for Kelvin Wilson, who is believed to be homesick.

Having made an initial approach, Lennon has been quoted an asking price of £500,000 fore the defender, according to The People.

It is thought that both Nottingham Forest and Leicester City are hoping to sign Wilson.

So that would mean he would be playing as a CB not a LB?

He is well suited for their game and provides us a conservative option in defense. I hope he starts if he goes

He's worth triple that amount.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Kelvin Wilson isn't even homesick. In fact he just recently had his family move to Glasgow. If we are interested in Lowry, it's not for that reason.

Agree. Sounds like a nice offer tempting him.

Heh. Now talk coming out that the Wilson rumours are true. Transfer Windows are fun.

As for Lowry, this is the first talk I've heard about him for us, and there's not a quote to be seen. We already have 4 Centre Backs, not including Wilson, but we've been experimenting with 3 at the back a lot, so a 5th would be needed.

I saw that Nicky Shorey is training with Milwall currently I'm guessing they are planning for life without Lowry

Not good IMHO. He's playing Championship, considered a stronger league - so many SPL players actually go the other way, Aussie Scott McDonald included! I know Celtic have European football too. But in the end, if he hasn't already, Lowry will get noticed by other, bigger, English clubs in the Championship (Play-Off contenders) or even EPL clubs.

The latter would be interesting, considering he only left an EPL club, Villa, not THAT long ago!

Someone should tell Celtic about Matt MacKay, Michael Thwaite and even Conor Pain - all have played in our NT defence while Lowry gets overlooked - surely Celtic can't be so misguided ....

Last 10 minutes or less of the final EAFF Cup game against China, aka the most recent Socceroos international.

But it was in context - There were literally NO other left sided options on the bench. AND, perhaps more importantly, our side was chasing goals, seeking to go on the front foot, so having another attack minded player like Pain helps in the support pushing/overlapping forward in numbers. But China just picked us off easier, as we overstretched and they hit our clearly tiring side on the easy counter.

Before somebody says, Goodwin was NOT going to be moved back from LW, even if, on paper, that would seem logical (With Pain shifting up/swapping with Goodwin). Goodwin had been on the pitch since kick off and was tiring with the rest of them. 'The defence' needed fresh legs aswell as more attacking ability, pace, via the flanks.

To also put in context, some club games etc... you see strikers come on to play DM and CBs come on late to play striker. It happens. It wasn't 'the best' that Pain came on late at LB, but it wasn't soo bizarre either. It was the last of 3 subs, last roll of the dice in a game we were desperately chasing. But we were already losing and it only go worse.

Team and players better for the experience, including Pain in his debut having to deal with countering Chinese attackers, only days after the shoe on the other foot, countering Liverpool and giving Glen Johnson a torrid old time on their right flank!

Great experience within only a week, for young Pain.

Then that would be the only 10 minutes he's ever played in defence in his career.

This is what attracted Holger to playing him there. He didn;t want to break his own rule.

Funny how Thwaite could start the first two games at LB but in the last 10 minutes of a game it is logical to play a striker at LB because we MUST have a left sided player there.

Not true. He played some LB during the finals match against Perth last season.
