Daily Express wrote:Carlton Cole tops the ‘scrap heap’ list
CARLTON COLE is among a host of top players looking for new clubs with the new Premier League season less than two weeks away.
The former England striker is training with Tottenham to keep himself fit after being released by West Ham.
Moves to Crystal Palace and St Etienne have fallen through and Cole, 29, remains the most high-profile name on a list of players seeking employment issued by their union, the PFA.
Among nearly 400 names are several other fallen stars on what has been dubbed soccer’s scrap heap.
Fellow striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, 27, is available on a free transfer from Wolves. He has a broken leg and will be out until October.

No news there of course, but Ebanks-Blake coming back too late for the English season, but right on time for the A-League, might be something in that? :-k

I have a soft spot for Wolves and he was top scorer in the championship the year they went up. Would do very well here.

That year E-B was the top scorer in the Champo was magical. He was totally immense.

Everyone on twitter is just saying "the rumour mill" or "whispers of" type of stuff. Can't find where the rumour originated

Scored the same in 23 games at the Jerks as he did his whole time at Villa. Personally id say you'd get much the same from Cole. The gap in the quality between EPL and HAL is evident when using players like Heskey as an example. Ive always welcomed these types of players, some say it prevents the young kids from getting a run. What they are forgetting is that these players have experience and knowledge that can be immeasurably valuable to them. What they lose in playing time they gain in knowledge. Plus these players are old and need resting, so the youngsters still get a go!

Either would be quality enough for this league - including given the 'Heskey Case-Study' as you guys have discussed. Though would Ebanks-Blake be marquee or within the cap? Surely NOT marquee? IF he's within cap though, he could be a kind of a bargain?! Within cap IS possible? Ifill joined within cap, other well regarded Champ players and others have joined within the camp, like Broich, Sikora, Montgomery etc... Cole would surely be Marquee though, given his status, career record and even age range. But hopefully not too expensive. Though Cole would seem unlikely to leave England, at this stage... you'd think? Then again these days, you'd never know - MLS could come calling. BTW Fredsta I agree, not saying it's right, just, unfortunately, that's not only what he and his agent would be demanding, but also what he, as a 29 year old, would be worth, market value wise! So indeed, arguably NOT bang for buck anyway. That's why the Ebanks-Blake discussion might be interesting? The Frenchman wrote:Roar #1 wrote:A16Man wrote:Lolz! Edited by GloryPerth: 16/8/2013 08:40:35 PM As much as I would love Ebanks here, I just can't see it, he's only 27 and has already been the top scorer in the championship twice in his career, you would think there would be a couple of lower table championship teams that would make a play for him. But saying that, the fact that we are talking about it means there could something in it.

Sure Heskey and Cole are similar players but with one difference, Heskey was a lot better than Cole was at doing his job for the team. Cole just isn't that good.

Exactly, plus he did better this past year than heskeys last season in the PL and he's only 29. He would tear up the a-league if he came here

Carlton Cole imo is an average footballer who isn't as good at holding the ball up and playing his team mates in as Heskey is, plus he's not a big name at all; not marquee worthy imo.
