http://www.footballfedvic.com.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Corporate/History/HoF_nomination_-_Theseus_John_Marmaras.pdfTheseus (Theo) Marmaras was born on the island of Lemnos in Greece on 10 July 1910. In 1923 he followed his elder brother Arthur to Australia where he arrived with no English and no money. He worked as a dishwasher and in odd jobs and then began selling oysters travelling by bicycle and tram to deliver to his customers. Gradually he built up a flourishing business, though his daughter Olga remembers that she and her mother had to put ice on his bleeding hands when he came home from work. He opened the Melbourne Oyster Bar, importing rock oysters from Sydney and distributing them all over the country by air. He became an Australian citizen in March 1940 but he had already begun to contribute to Australian society which he believed had given him such opportunities. He did not play football but in the post-war years when Greek migration expanded rapidly he became involved with the Hellenic club and was instrumental in the amalgamations with Yarra Park in 1959 and South Melbourne United in 1960 which resulted in the formation of South Melbourne. The new club played its first season in 1960 and the fans called it Hellas as it went from strength to strength in Australian football. He was president of the club for many years. Almost immediately Theo Marmaras was caught up in the great split in the game which began in New South Wales and spread to the rest of the country. When the Australian Soccer Federation was founded in November 1961, Marmaras was elected chairman of the new body, but in a typical show of personal modesty, he deferred to Henry Seamonds of New South Wales who had been expected to take the post. He took on the vice-chairmanship and acted as president when Seamonds died unexpectedly in 1963. He then stepped aside for Sir William Walkley to take over. Theo Marmaras became the first chairman of the Victorian Soccer Federation helping to smooth the transition to the new body and playing a major part, along with Michael Weinstein, in the negotiations which led to Australia rejoining FIFA in July 1963. He also helped overcome a conflict in the Croatian ranks in 1962 enabling the emergence of a single club to take part in the State League and thereby contributing to one of the great rivalries in Victorian football history. He helped purchase Soccer House in St Kilda and went to Russia to arrange the tour by Torpedo Moscow in 1965. Theo Marmaras remained chairman of the Victorian Soccer Federation until he succeeded Harry Dockerty as president in 1967. He stood aside for Sir David Hill-Wood and Michael Parker in 1971 to 1973 but then resumed the presidency from 1974 to 1978. He was a tireless worker for the game at state and national level. Theo Marmaras did much to make it easier for Greek migrants to find their way in Australian society urging them to become contributors to their new country. He led the way with a wide range of charitable and community activities including being an active life governor of the Royal Children’s Hospital and several other Melbourne hospitals and the St John’s Ambulance Association. He was awarded the Gold Medal of Mount Athos by the Greek Orthodox Church and was appointed honorary Trade Commissioner for Victoria. He received an MBE in 1972. He is a Member of the Hall of Honour of the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Theo Marmaras died in 1984 after a lifetime of service to football and the wider Australian and Greek societies. I bet you are not even aware that it was an smfc president that organised - financed and secured the FFV's first office (outright I might add) at Fitzroy st St.Kilda in the early 60 in a push to administer and unite football in Vic Prior to this the FFV's were Gypsies The money they received from this location was used to relocate at Knox which is an absolute disaster and the FFV have racked up some serious debts also Interesting times ahead Edited by chris: 20/9/2013 12:27:02 PM

From the FFV
NPL mediation update 19.09.2013 FFV attends mediation with plaintiffs and representatives of clubs opposing implementation of NPL.
ON 18 September 2013, FFV attended mediation with the plaintiffs and a representative of the clubs opposing the implementation of the NPL in Victoria.
The mediation was conducted through the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Retired NSW Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Mt Jerrold Cripps QC was the mediator.
FFV was represented by senior management, the FFV President and barristers Daryl Williams SC and Simone Bailey. The plaintiffs’ legal counsel and solicitor were also present.
Unfortunately, however, the parties were unable to reach a settlement.
The matter will now return to the Magistrates’ Court on 23 September 2013 where it is anticipated that the plaintiffs will seek an order that the matter be heard as soon as possible in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

The Select Few? Where was The Select Few when the NSL fell?! Where was The Select Few when the New Dawners closed in around us?! Where was The Sel- No, my ethnic friends, we are alone. I'm so lost right now. Fuck the NSL. I was never one with those gypsy traders. However, I reckon that their place in Australian football is being given no respect.

Now common Jo FFAThats not a Call to arms - "That is Hollywood" It is more likely something similar to the following words would have been used "Those POMS are screwing your wives and children - taking over your homes and now they want to own our country and drink our beer....." We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in Victoria, we shall fight on the pitches and fields, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our kebabs, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the boardrooms, we shall fight at the corner stores, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. -PB

CLUB UPDATE LEGAL ACTION 19 SEPTEMBER 2013 - ALL CLUBS, FFV, FFA, MEDIA
As you are all aware, the legal action brought by two of the FFV Zone Representatives, Pave Jusup and Ezel Hikmet, on behalf of the Clubs proceeded to Mediation yesterday. Unfortunately, the Mediation was unsuccessful.
The Co-Signatory Clubs are disappointed at the outcome of yesterday’s Mediation conducted at CAS (Melbourne) by the Honourable Jerrold Cripps, as agreement for an acceptable NPLV to the Clubs commencing in 2014 couldn’t be reached with FFV.
The main concerns of the Co-Signatory group were the FFV’s conditions that the proposed NPLV requires the Clubs to be in and operate from zones, restricts the number of teams which can be fielded and splits many of the players and members who currently follow their Clubs.
These three conditions sought to be imposed by FFV are not mandatory requirements of the NPL pursuant to the recommendations of the National Competition Review (NCR) conducted by FFA.
Notwithstanding the present impasse, the Co-Signatory group and Plaintiffs support the implementation of a NPL based upon the aims of the FFA’s NCR recommendations but without the previously mentioned conditions which are imposed on the prospective applicants and the broader football community by the FFV.
The Co-Signatory group continues to call upon the FFV to implement a revised version to the current NPLV, which is in its discretion to do, and follow models implemented in other States.
The Co-signatory group are supporting the proceedings by the Plaintiffs and is hopeful that the matter will be transferred to the Supreme Court on 23 September 2013.
Finally, and on a separate note, in an earlier update we advised that we would be providing a detailed response and analysis to the statement circulated by the FFV on 12 September 2013 relating to the FFV’s position on those aspects of its proposed NPL which are in dispute. Given that the matter is presently before the Courts and is expected to be transferred to the Supreme Court, the Plaintiffs have been advised by their lawyers to ask us not to circulate our response at this time.
Nicholas Tsiaras - Vice President, Box Hill United SC
Tom Kalas - Director, South Melbourne FC
