Pagan solstice feast. And how is that a good reason for anything? How is it not? Nothing about Paganism is right. If you hate christmas so much fuck off and don't enjoy the public holiday held in its honour. Get a job where you have to work.
And let everyone else who enjoys christmas enjoy the public holiday.

DP's parents were killed by a mall Santa drunk driving. Horribly disfigured by the accident and skin tainted green by leaking antifreeze, Davis_Patik became THE GRINCH.

Well, I entered this thread expecting to see people stating good ideas/gifts for parents and this is what I find!!!!
Well then, Xmas is Awesome, I'm an atheist who was brought up Catholic and Religiously educated by the Anglicans.
The best thing about Xmas is that it is a time to embrace a whole bunch of different societal ideals and share them with those you love. My girls love the Santa stuff, my wife and I love the bit where the relos from interstate come and take care of the kids for us so we can have some time alone and still enjoy catching up with those we don't see often
Everyone loves having time off of work and spending time together with friends and family. Without Xmas we really would take time to enjoy ourselves after slaving away all year, we wouldn't get to see those relo's because without the public holidays and business closures we wouldn't have time to catch up and we wouldn't have the excuse to all meet up at the same place each year.
Xmas has many reasons for many people even Christians have a good ole' time with the whole religious aspects that come with the holiday, pagans too and even Muslims get in on the act. Hell the Jewish get to have their Honokaa around the same time so it seems that it is really just you with a bug up their butt about the whole thing.
Gift ideas:
we make things for our parents (my wife and I) we know they have everything and that most of what we could get them would be tokenistic at best. this year we're doing stencilled lanterns, the type you put a candle in and each pane will have a picture of our daughters on them so when lit it will light up the image all pretty like.
last year we did stepping stones with items the girls collected when we were on holiday the year before and photos in little plastic frames.
we've also made picture hangers for the Mums and BBQ mates for the dads.
If buying something is more your speed or don't have kids to se as labour, without knowing their interests I'd look to things like mini break holidays, historical referencing memorabilia (wedding songs on vinyl/photos on canvas or framed)
One of the best gifts I ever got was a framed copy of 1995 NME from August with the showdown of Oasis V Blur as it happened on My birthday (Oasis were robbed).
Remember the idea is a gift from the heart rather than lavishing expense unnecessarily.

Buy them wine or a weekend away a local country town close to the city you live in.

I always like thoughtful gifts. I try not to be too bland and buy people gift cards or something like that.
For our Muslim Xmas (Eid) after our fast period I tried to buy gifts for my family and such that were, if you will, them. But then again, I don't mind searching for them online and stuff and putting the effort in to it.
Just on the DP topic. I am a Muslim and I like the concept of Christmas. We don't celebrate it, but the concept is nice, but then again that is if you celebrate in the truer form I guess. Gift giving and spending time with family is always high on the list. Id like to experience a white Christmas too.

For me Christmas is a public holiday I get to catch up with family and friends. It's completely non-religious gathering. They may as well call it family day for all I care. Each to their own.

Each to their own. Not to say this is the case with DP, but for people that live a long way away from family or come from dysfunctional families, I can imagine Christmas can be a pretty horrible day. Anyway I have no gift suggestions
