Question for you lads - is it a good or a bad thing that there aren't rivalries in the A-League with this kind of passion?

Bad. Theres an impression here that huge rivalries = ethnicity but it doesnt have to be the case imo. I think when the 2nd Sydney team comes in, and a second Melbourne team, things will develop and move forward.

There also needs to be more history for things to get as passionate as they are in England. It gets more passionate when there is more history behind it imo

Is the key, but the issue of supporter identification is huge as well.

Another thing - behind the goal Swansea are attacking... The advertising stretched over the empty seats is exactly the kind of thing I've been advocating for A-League grounds in order to compact the supporters into smaller areas and improve atmospheres.

Look at the difference between the CCC and the A-leauge.

A-leauge cant even string together 3 passes though midfielding. Absolutely No consistency in results with "better teams" one week they win 5-0 next week they lose 5-0. Defending is pathetic, passing pathetic, ball trapping is pathetic with many players.

side note:

Why are they singing "Alan smith, ya wanka ya wanka" Ive been singing that round the house in recent days. Extremely catchy.

Will have a look at it when they come out for the second half. Is it put up before the game starts, thus reducing crowd capacity?

We're not allowed to say this. It's like admitting that promotion/relegation will never happen. We're supposed to pretend that the A-League is really good and worth spending $20-$30 a game to see. Anyone who points out the reality of the standard of football will be targeted for termination and unpatriotic.

But yes, you're quite correct. A-League was League One standard a few years back, the coaching standard hasn't improved in the last few years - and proportionally there are fewer quality players around now than then.

It can still be very entertaining - but then again, so can U13's games, and they're free to get into.

In today's case it's a temporary measure - I think they're infront of the Cardiff fans to provide a barrier to stop any pitch invasions. But the tarps are available for use any time they are required.

They've also got tarps at one of the Canadian baseball/football stadiums - they wind down from the rear of the top tier of seats and can cover the whole bank of seating providing the impression of far fewer empty seats. The tarps in Canada have the faces of former franchise legends on them.

This is why I've said over and over again, franchises should control the stadiums, put ticket prices as low as possible to reflect the quality on the pitch, and reap the rewards at the concession stands.

Back to the match - I'm going to predict 4-2 to Cardiff, with a Swansea player sent off late on.

Say that in Aussie football and they'll lynch you, but, again - yeah.

There are players in the A-League who are CCC standard - but not many. There are quite a few who are League One standard - but not enough. The rest would struggle to get a game in League Two.

Again, I don't think that's a bad thing - it's reality in a salary cap environment, and the cap is absolutely required to protect the league... The bad thing is the ticket prices.

I honestly dont pay attention to anything related to the A-league. I watched 2-3 games and i was like what the fuck is this crap. 2-3 passes the team changes possession. The defending is so pathetic its not funny.

In hindsight i reckon League 2 quality is generous for the A-league.

It's no wonder you've got such a downer on Holman if you're only comparing him to EPL/CCC.. Watch a few A-League games and you'll understand why you get so much stick for being critical of him. ;)

It's pathetic.
The only A-League games I now watch on TV are MVFC's away games.

I would rather play lawn bowls than watch the A-League anymore.
