Wow, what a night. I went to the Magic v Strikers game and honestly felt it was the best, most exciting state league game I've ever watched or played in.
I've briefly skimmed all the posts from last nights games, I'll attempt to answer any Magic-specific questions I saw:
- Magic kit supplier is Joma. - Pretty sure Strikers had the FFA Cup logo on their sleeves also. - Strikers kit was just the worst. - Incredible double standards by the FFA that Magic are allowed to continue to have their "Newcastle Macedonia Sporting Club" logo on their jerseys but the Knights couldn't have their Melbourne Croatia one. - Chris Bowling (Bowlo) is a top keeper, a great guy and a life member at my personal football club (even though he now plays for Magic). Having said that, he's 38 or 40years old, so I would say not a better option than Matt Nash for CCM  - Probably the main player who over the last 2-3 years has been seriously making a case for a HAL contract is Scott Pettit, the Magic #20 who scored. That run he made for the goal was just brilliant. Interesting thing was at the start of that run he got fouled but stayed standing - something very out of character for him. He's usually quick to hit the deck. He got his rewards for not doing so then, but basically for the entire Extra Time all he did was throw himself around and it was embarrassing. He still has a way to go to be anything more than a state league player IMO. - However, I thought probably the best performing Magic player was Matt Paul, the left back #8. I can't remember how old he is though, but I'll guess mid to late 20s, so not sure whether a HAL chance will beckon for him. - Magic played a league game on Sunday, whereas Strikers were lucky enough to be able to play theirs last Wednesday. In the end, the fresher legs won out. I found the first half pretty evenly contested, maybe in Magics favour though, but thought Strikers had the edge for most of the rest of the night. I daresay the Magic boys will be pretty sore for the rest of this week! - Was impressed with a 1500 attendance on a Tuesday night. A lot of us in there found ourselves cheering for Magic for the first time in our lives  - On the attendance though, I know a HEAP of people who said they weren't going to the game because it was televised, and whether it was staying indoors or just experiencing that first televised game, they didn't attend. If it wasn't televised, I would hazard a guess that easily another 500-1000 people would have came, at least. But I'm glad it was televised so yall got to witness it. - Highlight of my life was witnessing, in person, Simon Hill lighting up a durry at half time.

Not really double standards, it actually backs up what the FFA said about the "Melbourne Croatia" and no new sponsors for the cup. It shows that the "Melbourne Croatia" decision had nothing to do with it being an "ethnic" sponsor just a new one. And on the Melbourne Knights Goal Keeper getting sent off after the match for pushing the referee. Under the FFA Cup Disciplinary Rules, it's a minimum 6 month suspension to be served in the players domestic competition.

It shows that the "Melbourne Croatia" decision had nothing to do with it being an "ethnic" sponsor just a new one. "No new sponsors" has to be the single worst thing I've ever heard the FFA allegedly say. It's completely opposite to what they would hope to gain from a competition like the FFA Cup. Let's run an example here: if South Cardiff went to a large newcastle mining company and said "next week we're on TV for the FFA Cup, and in papers all over the country. We want your brand name on our jerseys for it", and the company said "wow, that's awesome, something that we see as being a great chance to show the people of Australia our brand and identity, and we will give you 3 times the amount of sponsorship money you currently receive for shirt sponsorship" and Southy planned on using said money for club costs, facility upgrades and grassroots. I can tell you now - the FFA and NNSW would be doing freaking backflips if that happened. "No new sponsors" is completely against modern football, completely against expanding the game, and completely against what the FFA are attempting to achieve in terms of football in Australia. It is not a legitimate excuse for disallowing the Knights from putting their Melbourne Croatia sponsorship on their jerseys.

Was at the Olympic v Knights game, and was down very close to the croatian supporters. I say Croatian because it was all croatian jerseys and scarfs, barely any actual knights gear. BUT, they were still ok, a few crass cat calls and chants (there was one about olympicacos which I couldn't understand, but I'm sure it wasn't good  ), particularly the one deriding the a-league (you could feel their butthurt). But really all they did was bash their drum, beat the shed and be generally just loud, which was fun in itself. Great night all in all, watching the game, while we also huddled around our phones watching the scores from the other games tick over. Highlight for me though was having half the roar team sit beside us! Matt Smith, Matt Mckay, Luke Brattan, Jack Hingert, Corey Brown, Devante Clut. It was great seeing them there, and soooo close I could have stroked Matt Smiths immaculately kept hair.

Olympic vs Knights was such a great night. No Haloumi was available though FFS. The Knights fans were pretty funny, sure some of them were dickheads but it made it all the more sweeter when they lost. Please let Olympic draw Strikers in the R16.

Explain then why Brisbane Strikers were allowed to have a new sponsor for the tournament? But yeah, nothing to do with it being an 'ethnic' sponsor.

"Melbourne Croatia Soccer Club Inc." is a new sponsor, they would have gotten away with having "AHD Croatian Club Melbourne" on the front of the shirts as they are a current sponsor and were still allowed as sleeve sponsors last night. Although as stated by others the No New Sponsors Rule isn't one I agree with.

The Knights fans were good value, although about half were Brisbane Croatia boys, but well done to those who made the journey. I expected Olympic to get smashed, even though they are the best NPL side in Qld. The gap between the various state leagues is not as great as I thought. Crowd was 2200 at the Brisbane Olympic v Melbourne Knights game, but felt like more. I took some non-football mates along and they loved it, a real carnival atmosphere. I was tempted to stay at home just to see how Fox covered it, but the temptation to go along was too great. Watched Fox on the iPad but couldn't hear a thing, loved the updates from other games at it went along. Useful to catch the replays of the goals and the guys near me were strikers fans and kept asking for updates. Ito was fantastic for Olympic and the number 6 for Knights was a beast.
