Good riddance OH LYM PIC !

Watched most of the MV Tugger game - walk in the park tbh, tugger too slow and couldn't hang onto the ball for more than 2 pass's, well done getting there but was a training run for MV I'm afraid.
Great to see the locals supporting the locals in good numbers well done.
Good ol Simon Hill giving it to the flare idiots  heroes as he said

Another good night out at Marden ... City 1-0 but should have been 4 or 5. The Strikers keeper was immense, the rest of the team pretty average ... From the outset it looked like they sent their defenders out to kick the tricky young players out of the game. Strikers' Colombian(?) midfielder looked very skillful though.

Again City did well with the strong forwards (Costa and Budin) holding up the ball and plenty of movement with players bursting out of midfield and down the flanks. Love and Allwright were brilliant. Mori really deserves a crack at an A-League coaching gig I think.

Who was the no.7 for City again?
He had a cracking game. Should have put away a goal to cap it off but either way.

I thought it was a great night and was really impressed with City's movement and the pace of the game in general.

As you all have said, thoroughly deserved win, should have been more.

I too was disappointed at the Strikers general quality of play. Pretty much trying to dink it over the defense all night and City's 2 CBs dealt with EVERYTHING in the air. Striker's FBs also never got forward once, likely under instruction but still, lack of adventure when losing a knock out cup game.

Keeper was immense. Is he the one that was mentioned has played o/s and had a recent offer too? It showed.

No 7 is Allwright. Been impressed with him whenever I've gone out to a city game.

Didn't know you were there mate, could have met up for some wog snags in a continental roll on the hill =p~

Allwright is 26, according to the googlemachine. Slightly older than I thought.
Unfortunately A-League clubs tend to be reluctant to take a punt on 'unproven' players over about 21 or 22. Which is strange, in your mid 20s you could have a decade of top level football left in you. He used to be in the AU youth team (and starred, from what I recall).

Euro sausages from the stall on the hill, and Coopers Stout over the bar in the clubroom, what's not to love?

The novelty of the Tug/MV game wore off after the 3rd goal.
That training ground free kick was insane, Almost unbelievable a defender didn't stop it except that it happened.

Turned off after the Tug wall ducked as Victory scored on the direct free kick goal. (number 5 I think).
It is hard to gauge because of there opponent but Victory look like a well oiled machine that will tear apart lessor opponents this year.

Looking forward to next matchday. Heading out to see the Palmy sharks play, then get home and watch the Sydney Fc clash.

Yeah I'm not sure what the reasons for him not having a go at HAL level as he looks to have some good attributes. Perhaps at his age he may be more focused on his non-football career? I'm sure someone on FN would be able to give a decent answer (just have to filter through all the troll answers to find it).

Wasn't planning on having one but the smell was irresistible

Either way it shows how absolutely terrible and limited scouting networks are in the A-League.

Did I hear correctly in the commentary that he is the son of a Libyan Embassy official based in Canberra. So I don't think he would have been in the country that long, given Libya's recent history.

No idea if anyone has talked about this already but this is my views of last night’s Tuggers game at Viking Park against MV.

There was not performance akin to MK Dons v Man Utd from a few weeks ago by the Tuggies boys but it was a good night of football in the Capital. Over 5,100 people turned out in suburbia Tuggeranong to cheer on the local side. There was a small contingent of MV fans who made the trip up.

Overall the atmosphere was good with friendly banter being exchanged between the MV fans and the active group of Tuggies fans. The ground overall was buzzing with excitement about seeing a local side play an A-League team here in Canberra in a competitive game in the Cup.

it was very quickly obvious that Tuggers was not going to pose any real threat to MV has they rolled in two goals quickly off the mark with ease. No repeat of the heroics of Sheppered from the South Hobart game. The home side were able to stem the goals for a while but soon enough the class of MV shone through. Conner Pain had a fantastic night on the wing with the Tuggies defence unable to handle his pace. The difference between what were armatures not too long ago ( Tuggeranong United started paying their players for the first time in their history this year ) compared to professionals was obvious. I did think it was a little overkill to play Besart Berisha for the entire game. In truth he did not have the best performance I have seen from him but his sublime skill infront of goal was enough for him to slot home 3 goals anyway.

It was sad to see in the second half a small group of travelling MV fans light some flares and then get into a brawl with security guards. It got quite ugly there for a few minutes and it was so unnecessary. The banner they put up as they lit the flares read something like this "14 here’s 5 more years". This was in reference to one of the MV fans having a 14 year ban from the A-League and telling everyone he does not give a flying f about extending the ban. It was supposedly also reported on Fox that a MV fan also threw a cigarette but into a girl's donation tin, again poor form and so not necessary considering up until that point everyone had been having a good time. I was glad to hear the Fox commentary team were scathing of the Victory support at that point and praised Canberra.

Well we will have to wait until next year now for another crack at the big time. Can't wait for it. Hopefully we get one of our better teams to qualify as Tuggeranong did not even make the ACT finals this season.

Good round up mate.=d>

I'm a Victory supporter, but fair play to Tugga. I think you show disrespect to a team who overperformed.[-x

They were about the same standard as our NPL champs, South Hobart, when they played.

To only concede 16 shots on goal in the game, is a fantastic effort for an amateur side. In international games, often both teams have about 13 -17 shots on goal per team.

If I was Muscat, I'd be concerned about a number of aspects of play.

Milligan, very good against Chile and Belgium, two top international teams, had a poor first half against Tugga. In the second half, he dominated and showed why he has gone well past Valeri as a player.

Valeri , as I predicted, struggled in strength battles against Tugga players. I think Valeri, although having a great engine and excellent at keeping team shape, is going to find the going tough in the HAL. It is a league where physical strength, use of the body and strong tackling is prevalent. Valeri struggled to hold his own against Asian teams.

Murnane also struggled in 1v1 duels against amateur players.

Loved the style of football by Victory players, but too many players made mistakes under low defensive squeezing.

Tugga defended compactly and rarely gave Victory a chance to attack goal in space.=d>

Better than last time I think. In the WSW game City didn't have so much of the ball and he was reasonably quiet aside from his slalom goal. In this match he rampaged forward a few times, and also controlled a lot of the distribution through midfield. Maybe it's just that I was watching him more closely this time.

I think you are looking into this too much. When you play a poor side you tend to play poorly. In every sport I have played this is the case because the effort required becomes less. I guarantee you these errors will be rectified.

I find it condescending congratulating a team who just got pumped 6-0.

I can see your point.

However, I have had a coaching role in a NPL club where the men's senior team is about the same standard as Tugga.

The difference in standard is vast to a quality HAL team like Victory. The ACT, is a bit in front of Tassie, but we are some distance behind, WA, SA, Queensland, and more so behind NSW and Victorian NPL.

I think Tugga would've been thrilled with that performance and result.

Also, thanks for setting up this thread.

I think the FFA Cup has been brilliant for football in Australia.:) It is also creating a longer season, which all eminent European coaches suggest is an issue in Australia.

The other great thing, is that even though I'm a passionate supporter of WSW in the ACL, if a HAL team had to lose to a NPL team, it couldn't have happened to a better one. Adelaide City beating an Asian powerhouse like WSW, is a great upset in football.=d>

And Decentric that last line is completely laughable. We pitched tents and had bbqs in their 15 yard box.

It would be interesting to do stats on the game.

I thought MV dominated possession in the defensive half and in the first third of the attacking half. Yet, I thought we spent little time in the attacking third. When we got there, I thought we were pretty decisive and clinical around goal.

I'd like to have a seen more interplay between Finkler and the DMs, and, Finkler and Berisha.

For an amateur side with much lower fitness to achieve what Tugga did, I thought was terrific.

He looked good in a shit side

You're sounding a bit like Andy Harper mate, Tugga had one shot on target whereas Victory had about 20. As SelectFew said, you're reading too much into the game. Victory obviously took their foot off the pedal once the third went in.
