Nah. If we are having a neutral then put it on the GC. Beach, hotels, fun parks, etc.

Who on this forum would rather stay in Canberra for the weekend than GC if it cost the same amount? (Except Qlders)

The FFA Cup should not be a vehicle for cities to show they want a team.

Sure Canberra is a nice drive from Melbourne and Sydney... But what is the point? Australia is too big. The FFA Cup should be for supporters of the teams not a different city. So you need to get approximately 25k to Canberra. That's 12k each. Where it falls apart for me is if you ever had a derby final etc. or even a replay of the one we just had. Why move all those people around. What did that guy write, they have a museum. 25k tourists can go to the museum the day after the match.

Draw a team eg MV to play AU. MV can sell 50% of the tickets via their website (to the public not members) , AU can sell 50% of the tickets via their website. After one week if AU hasn't sold their allotment put them up for general sale.

Like many say the home team in the GF earns it. The cup should be 50-50 or at least given the opportunity to be.
I don't think a neutral ground is needed.

That was in response to Heineken suggesting Canberra was in fact a good idea.

One reason I am skeptical is here in Sweden they used to have the finals in Stockholm with dreadful attendances if there was no Stockholm teams. Then they used a draw for the home team. Now it's back in Stockholm. They got under 3500 in a 50k stadium.
Of course nobody in Stockholm will attend to watch another team. But if we will rely on Canberra locals to bump up the numbers IMO that is stupid. Why not give fans who support the club the chance instead. Like it is now and should stay.

The Swedish FA like the English FA own the national arena in the capital. This reason contributes.
The FFA does not own that stadium. Our national team hardly ever uses the stadium.
I would actually prefer them to use Homebush than Canberra if we are having neutral venues. I don't want that but for me it's a better option giving its connection to Australian football. Probably more to do in Sydney as well. Let's be honest, how often would Sydney or WSW make the final. It wouldnt be every year anyway. Unfortunately this would cause heads to explode.

Should we move all Socceroo games to Canberra because it is the capital? No

Just pick the host in a draw or rotate between Sfs and Melbourne. When the final moves to Australia Day, it won't be an issue who hosts.

From the talks they are moving it to a weekend in November. Probably the international dates weekend I imagine. This means if they grant a spot to the ACL a team could start in Feb. . An Australia Day final would mean a team would have to wait 13 months to play ACL as the cut off date for qualifying in Dec 31.
Clubs may lose 1 or 2 players to national teams but I think it will be the solution the FFA go for so they can provide content for tv too.
So Socceroos Friday, FFA Cup final Saturday, Socceroos Tuesday

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/regional/gascoyne/a/25809142/la-fiamma-confirms-bid-for-2015-ffa-cup-berth/

Quote:
La Fiamma confirms bid for 2015 FFA Cup berth

Chapman Athletic, Olympic Heat, Rovers or La Fiamma soccer clubs could take on Hyundai A-League teams next year.

The nationwide FFA Cup has been opened to all clubs around Australia in 2015 and nominations are open for all Mid West clubs to put their names in the hat.

La Fiamma committee member Lindsay Cannon confirmed the Reds would apply to enter the competition, but Mid West Soccer Association president Greg Lumley said they would qualify through the metropolitan zone.

That is because each club can only enter one team and must go through their highest level of competition, which would be the Reds’ Sunday League division two team.

Geraldton clubs can nominate for round one of the cup tournament and face a local knockout competition to determine who advances to the next round.

The winner advances to face other regional winners and then progresses to play Perth sides.

Cannon was hopeful applying and playing in the FFA Cup would attract players to the area and help develop young Geraldton players.

“Our primary goal is to advance to division one in the Sunday league, but hopefully applying to the FFA Cup will get a few players to come and play with us, ” he said.

“We are appealing for players to come on board and support Geraldton soccer in this pursuit.”

Local sides have until January 30 to nominate and pay the $300 fee, $250 of which will be paid by Football West.

The Reds are yet to confirm a coach for their 2015 campaign, but Martin Leeson is the front runner.

Leeson coached two seasons ago and Cannon said it was likely Leeson would get the nod.

“The coach is not appointed officially, but Martin has put himself up as head coach once again, ” he said.

“Sunday league is definitely a go, as well as a new-look strip to go for promotion this year.

“It’s all hands on deck and training will start in January — earlier than ever before.”

As much as it would be good to have an Australia Day Final I am pleased the final is set on the weekend in November it might give Local clubs a better shot at winning the cup should they get there and have a decent two month break before they begin their local season and FFA cup campaigns.

the issue really will be if one of the A-League clubs is in the ACL final.

This

The 2nd leg of this years ACL final was on 1st November so it shouldn't be an issue if the FFA Cup final is a week or two after

Haven't already some of the preliminary rounds begun.

Fairly sure there's been a round or so completed in Northern NSW, Queensland and Victorian. Already a few walkovers as amateur pull out for logistical reasons.

Fairly sure NSW's start this week, or this first week of March.

Thats just the fb page. But the launch is tomorrow (thursday). It does say "official launch". Could be a bit strategic timing given the Asian Cup etc

Yep, there's been a full round played in both Brisbane and Victoria, and a handfull of games in NNSW.

Western Australia, regional Queensland and Newcastle all start this weekend, and Victoria has another full round of qualifiers.
