What's the overall general admission price for the games looking like across the board? Balmain Tigers have set a $10 entry fee for adults, with kids (under 10) getting in for free.

Rockdale are doing $15 adults, $10 for kids. They're also doing a $50 corporate deal. IIRC Balmain said they were looking at doing a corporate deal. I know a guy who'd be keen to get on that.

Rockdale are doing Kids under 16 Free, their concessions would be pensioners and students...

Penrith IS Western Sydney. You can't get more West by not crossing the Nepean, and then you're in the Blue Mountains.

It'll still be home ground advantage, it's not like Melbourne City last year who decided it'd be a good idea to move their home game to Ballarat.

I've updated the OP to reflect the ground change.

Moving the game to Penrith, a 30 minute drive away is hardly 'turning into a travelling circus'..

Given the talk of the renovations of Parramatta Stadium, the club is most likely just experimenting with a temporary home ground for when the renovations eventuate. In that regard, Penrith is probably a better option than Campbelltown. It's that, or play out of ANZ/Spotless Stadium in Homebush. Now wouldn't that be a laugh.

Pepper Stadium will be pumping again for the FFA Cup

The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers will return to Penrith when they take their Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 clash against Brisbane Roar to Pepper Stadium.
It will be the first match of the 2015/16 season for the Red & Black and will take place on Tuesday 11 August with kick-off at 7:30pm.

For a region with such a rich football history, Penrith and the Nepean has begun to forge a strong history with the Wanderers too in only a few years.

image: http://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Western_Sydney_Wanderers/bb/68/penrith-pepper-stadium_1vzgokh6131jj1u9mpysp8b5xl.jpg?t=-1789398466

Having hosted two Westfield W-League matches at the venue as well as a pre-season fixture against Adelaide United, the Wanderers brought top flight football back to Penrith for the first time in 29 years when they defeated Wellington Phoenix at the stadium earlier this year.

Nikita Rukavytsya’s 18th minute strike was the first top-flight men’s goal in Penrith since Randell Easthorpe’s finish against Newcastle KB United in 1985.

To continue the historical link, Penrith and Pepper Stadium could witness the Red & Black’s first ever win in the Westfield FFA Cup – Australia’s domestic cup competition.

CEO John Tsatsimas said bringing the game to Pepper Stadium is another win for the Greater West.

“Today’s venue announcement is another opportunity to strengthen our ties with Penrith and the Nepean region,” said Tsatsimas.

“The Nepean region has our second-highest number of Foundation Members and we’ve seen with the attendances at Pepper Stadium for our Hyundai-League, Westfield W-League and pre-season matches that the whole community gets behind the Wanderers.

‘We can’t wait to open our season here in Penrith.”

Hyde relishing Victory opportunity

A dream, a fairy tale, a fantasy….The reality, no matter how surreal it feels, is that Tom Hyde will lead his Men’s State League 1 side Balmain Tigers FC out onto Leichhardt Oval to take on the Hyundai A-League Premiers and Champions of Australia on Tuesday the 4th of August in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

Just taking part in the Cup on the national stage is an outstanding achievement, but to have the opportunity to take on an opponent like Melbourne Victory is simply amazing for the lowest ranked club involved in the knockout competition.

In his fifth year in the yellow and black kit, Tom Hyde will captain his side in the biggest match of most of the boys’ careers.

“It’s incredible for me on a personal level and for the club as a platform to get onto the national stage.

“It feels like a dream to be honest.”

The Tigers are the lowest ranked club in this season’s Westfield FFA Cup, currently sitting inside the Top 5 in the NSW Men’s State League 1, the states third tier competition.

So when the smallest team in the draw, meets the biggest and best, what does that mean for the brave Tigers?

“I think it’s the definition of David vs Goliath, Hyde said.”

The fearless Tigers from Balmain, having got to this stage of the Cup, only had eyes for opponents from one competition.

“We were definitely hoping for a Hyundai A-League club, it’s obviously the marquee draw.

“Just to be involved is great and we had a great run.

“Especially how the lead up draw worked out for us, but we had to execute it and we did.

There were some amazing scenes when the Tigers’ players found out who they would be facing in the Round of 32.

Hyde’s teammates are now eagerly anticipating the fixture in the coming weeks.

“The atmosphere is pretty euphoric with the way the draw panned out.

“When we realised we were going face a Hyundai A-League club it was a great feeling and when the reigning Premiers and Champions of Australia were pulled out, it was doubled.”

The Tigers right-back knows what this means to his teammates and the club and wants them to revel in the spotlight.

“We know it’s going to be a big challenge but we just want to enjoy the experience and the exposure for the club.

“It’ll give us an opportunity on a personal level to test ourselves against professionals and the best team in the country.”

Arriving from England, where the oldest cup competition in the world is played namely the FA Cup, to Australia where the FFA Cup is in only it’s second year, Hyde commends the idea and what clubs, like Balmain get out of it.

“Growing up, watching the FA Cup is the staple of English childhood, to see it replicated in Australia I think it’s fantastic and gives clubs such as ours the ability to get some exposure on the national stage.

“It’s the fairy tale of the cup, the lowest ranked team pulled out the highest and we’re going to enjoy every second of it as well as doing State League 1 proud.

“I think it’s important for us to put up a good showing as well as enjoying the spectacle of the draw.”

The well-deserved spotlight has been shone on the Tigers and Hyde believes this can help the club grow in the future.

“It will give us not only a platform to push the club forward, the funding, sponsorship and exposure will allow to build the club and give us a bit of stability.

“Also, to get some fans back to Balmain and put us in a position to kick on as a club in the next couple years.”

With Hyde possibly considering hanging the boots up soon, this game means a lot to him on a personal level.

“For myself and others nearing the end of their careers it’s a great way to go out on a high.

“It’s just fantastic.”

NSW big guns in tricky Westfield FFA Cup ties

Friday, 17 July 2015 -
Matthew Galea, Football NSW

For Sydney Olympic and Sydney United 58 FC, the Westfield FFA Cup is a welcome opportunity to return to the national stage albeit against tricky opponents.

Olympic coach Grant Lee said his team would be working hard to overcome the logistic nightmare of a midweek trip away to Canberra’s Gungahlin United FC.

“It’s funny how these things work out. We were the only (Football NSW) team to get an away game at this stage last year, and it’s happened again,” Lee said.
“So now we have to play two games in three days, which is hard with part-time players, but of course it’s a fantastic concept and it’s generating a lot of talk and discussion, so we’re better off for it.”

Lee said he was familiar with some of the Capital Football NPL side’s players, and was expecting a tough match in tougher conditions.

“It’s a cold, winters night in Canberra and with Olympic’s history, this is a big match for Gungahlin. It will be a bit of a grand final for them,” Lee said.
“I know a bit about them... looking at their list, there are some good young players and some of them I’d had trial for Olympic too.
“Hopefully we can get up there and try and kill it off early, but we’ll be prepared for a tough game.”

Olympic negotiated the round of 32 last season but suffered defeat against eventual semi-finalist Bentleigh Greens in the round of 16.

Sydney United 58 exited at the same round of last season’s competition, losing to Hyundai A-League outfit Sydney FC, coach Mark Rudan’s former club, in front of over 8,000 people.

United young gun Giuseppe Camera was a new signing at the club on that night and was not called up for the game.

The anguish of missing out has him was chomping at the bit for United’s round of 32 cup tie at home against South Hobart, as the Waratah Cup champions look to continue their fine cup form this year.

“I joined United halfway through the season last year for the under-20s and it was just around that time, so I didn’t get to play,” Camera said.

“I didn’t get the chance last year … but it was an incredible atmosphere. The crowd was unreal, especially for the players.
“The boys still talk about it in the dressing room, so hopefully we can beat South Hobart and draw another Hyundai A-League team. We’re undefeated in cup games this season.
“I don’t know a lot about them, so we’re expecting a tough game against tough opposition – but I just want to show to Mark and the club the best I have because in the short time I’ve been at the club I’ve been treated very well.”

Meanwhile, current PS4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s 1 leader Blacktown City FC has an interesting tie of its own when it comes up against reigning NPL champions Metrostars SC from NPL South Australia.

City has endured a mixed month, drawing their last three league games and losing the Waratah Cup final to Sydney United 58, but coach Mark Crittenden said he was excited to see Blacktown back on the national stage.

“We’ll do a bit of homework, but they’re a very good side, with some name players like (Fabian) Barbiero, which gives them some good players going forward, but I’m happy with my squad,” Crittenden said.

“We lost at this stage last year to Bentleigh (Greens) and that was disappointing because they’ve scored a bit of a nothing goal and we couldn’t break them down.”

City star Travis Major said amending last year’s wrong was definitely on the agenda for the club this time around.
“They’ve got a few ex-Hyundai A-League boys in their team, so we know they’re good,” Major said.
“No one is worried about the individual exposure, we just want to go as far in this competition as we can.
“Last year is definitely a driving force. Bentleigh came here and hit us on the break early on and then sat back and we couldn’t break them down despite hitting them with wave after wave of attack, so we definitely want to go one better last year because that was gut-wrenching.”

Last season just two out of six Football NSW clubs progressed to the round of 16, proving the difficulty of the task ahead for the five clubs involved this season.
Four of the five Football NSW sides have been drawn at home and will hope the home ground advantage helps ease them through to the round of 16, particularly Balmain Tigers who will be dreaming of the ultimate fairytale win against Melbourne Victory. It would be a brave person that bets on the Tigers’ against the current national champions, but in cup football, you just never know.
