True though, he's a proven competent broadcaster. Remember the All Stars game against Juventus for 7? He was translating from Italian from their players live, I bet they didn't even plan for that.

Wait for Edgeworth FC to lose to Melbourne City and the Jets to lose to Glory and for all their teams to be out at first asking again and nobody could deny that their second spot should be given to SA. Next stop is getting NSW's odd fifth spot off them.

how old is epifano ?

He's around 20-21 A League bound for sure.

yeh he was brilliant tonight... the bloke with left peg was good to think his name was stirton ... haven't seen much of south int he NPL but they have a very solid team

Means nothing, ever since we lost andy Brennan our firepower had greatly diminished, epifano drifted out of the game and was picking up the ball too deep after half time, it was Norton on the left, he is ok.

Get your breakaway league to join FFSA and you might get more spots.

I thought Lujics offside in the first half when they looked to have 3 clear on goal was bizzare.
The penalty there was no chance the player was going to reach it, goal keeper lost the plot but still would not have given it.

This is admittedly the big problem here, I dont think anyone should complain considering it.

But Alas, it won't happen anytime soon. The big Amateur clubs have good control of SAASL and enjoy their status quo. Additionally the main reason for the break away is Juniors fees. There is a reason there is only 2 maybe you could say 3 Fed clubs in the northern suburbs, but 20+ amateur clubs. It comes down to cost of those areas, their clubs fight tooth and nail for the fair chance for their Juniors and they would simply not be able to compete in Fed with these Junior prices which are 1/3 and in some cases 1/4 of the Fed fees.

There are other issues involved but from my knowledge, this is the biggest reason.

Blacktown's game was entertaining, the result admittedly surprising. Was a pretty entertaining game for the neutral. Blacktown started the game with all cylinders firing. Threw everything forward in the opening 10 minutes in an attempt to nab one or two quick goals and place a whole heap of pressure. MetroStars did well to hold them off. Had Blacktown been a little more clinical, they could have had two or three goals in that opening 20 minutes. That said, their goal came as no surprise. Was a tidy finish in the end.

Second half was completely different. MetroStars started to get into the game with about 10 minutes to go until half time, but once the second stanza kicked off, there was a feeling that MetroStars were just going to grab the win.

I must say I was a little surprised at how little Blacktown had in their game plan. They seemed to throw everything at MetroStars in the first half, and left little in the second. I think they underestimated MetroStars completely. In the build up to the game, Blacktown spoke a lot at the disappointment at being knocked out by Bentleigh last season. Lots of talk about how they felt robbed, how they felt they dominated the game, and were pipped by an 'unlucky goal'. Admittedly I didn't see their game last year, but I think they thought they could get away with a 'smash'n'grab' job of MetroStars. Admittedly, MetroStars did start a little sluggishly, but it clearly didn't pay off.

Blacktown won't be happy with the result, being knocked out in the Ro32 two years running at home. Especially this season as they sit atop the NPL NSW.

Good on MetroStars however. They played well enough to deserve the win in the end, but I think they'll have to up their game against better NPL, and especially A-League clubs.

Must say a little surprised at the South Melbourne result. I think everybody was banking on a win for them. I think the club will be very angry at not progressing. I think they were expecting a win to say the least. It'll be a massive dent in their pride.

Having said that, a few Souths supporters on here were anxious about the game. Certainly wasn't a lot of confidence going into the game from their supporters. I think it's a big loss overall to have them knocked out in the Ro32 - I think everybody would have liked to seen them play a game at home, against an A-League club especially. A team like Melbourne Victory would have been match of the Round, but probably match of the tournament. Would have seen a packed-to-the-fucking-rafters Bob Jane. That said, I would have expected the FFA to force them to move it to AAMI.

Broadmeadow's result was disappointing, but not unexpected I suppose. Hume City with a big result over Brisbane Strikers. Overall an excellent first match day in my opinion.

A south win was never a sure thing. More propaganda from their management.
Happy Heidelberg won and again showed australia how bad NNSW football is. Given their investment into lighting I hope they can draw an a-league team at home next round (but not pg, they played twice in Melbourne last year)

I'm more surprised we dominated the game the way we did, I was thinking it could go extra time and penalties but I figured it would be a game of 50/50 possession and equal chances, we actually played very well, probably as well as south have played since about April/may. This actually makes it more shattering, the possesion stats were almost Brisbane roar like a few years back, must have gone close to 20 corners, numoerus guilt edge chances to seal it, unfortunately with cup football you don't get a second chance, I'd say the entire club would be gutted because the match was borderline unloseable as it played out.

I found the commentators constantly linking south to the a league as annoying after a while, and the board should have kept their mouths shut about "using the ffa cup" as a springboard to the a league, I don't see how even winning last night's match makes any difference to losing, win or lose it's an npl team.

I tend to agree NNSW should only have one NPL entrant.

I won't push the fact too hard though, because a FFA Cup game each week for three weeks is something I am super stoked about

Fwiw the crowd at Magic v Heid last night seemed far smaller than Magic v Strikers last season.

Edgy v City will draw a bigger crowd though.

Couldn't believe some of the team lineups and seeing former Adelaide United players

Fabien Barbiero
Kristian Rees
Jake Barker-Daish
Bradley Norton
Izzay Erdogan (with Adelaide from 2007-2009)

probably a few more that were linked to the youth team as well.

Anyone else picked out players from A-League clubs out of the four games last night.

I got home from my In-Laws 60th birthday and watched this straight away (bloody recording stopped just before penalty kicks!!!!    )
South Melbourne were clearly the better team over 90 mins and Palmy are definitely not as strong as last year. Plamy looked good for the first 45mins but petered out after that, Palmy did well in transition and ground out a result thanks to wasted chances.

Now at least I hopefully get to see them vs an A-league team next round! \:d/ \:d/ \:d/ \:d/

Two playing for Hume City FC last night:

Theo Markelis
Petar Franjic

Have to say, it reminded me why Markelis no longer plays for Victory. Glimpses of potential, only to be undone by a wayward pass or trying to do it all on his own.

Exactly. Also the only place in the laws of the game where the ball is involved is hand ball. All overseas is about contact and force involved. The south Melbourne player tackle in the 6th minute of the game should have been send off. Two footed reckless challenge making contact with the player. Could of been red even if he didnt like the bes challenge.

You can disagree all you like - you are wrong.

The words right of way don't appear anywhere in the laws or supporting notes for referees. What is in the laws is that a player cannot push, trip or tackle an opponent in a careless or reckless manner or using excessive force.

The ball must be in play (which in this case it was). If the ball had already gone out when the contact was made, it would have been a goal kick and the only decision the ref would have had to make would have been whether or not to issue a yellow card (which it didn't warrant).

The ball was in play, a foul was committed in the penalty area, therefore penalty. There is a reason no one else is out there saying it wasn't a penalty including the Sth Melb players.

So a player can karate kick a player in the box with the ball up field and not be called a foul?

No, that would be a penalty.

Blacktown City players Mitch Mallia, Travis Major, Zac Cairncross, Matt Lewis all played A-League. I think Poscoliero might have played last night too? I'm not sure.
