That would mean they aren't trialists, because they are already contracted to the club in some form. Fair enough. Guess I am a bit unclear the difference between how one gets from youth to pro contract and if there is any difference between the too.

For those that missed it in the Victory thread: MVFC wrote:Victory names squad for FFA Cup opener Monday, 3 August 2015
Melbourne Victory has named a 16-man squad for Tuesday's Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 32 clash with Balmain Tigers FC at Leichhardt Oval. Nine players from the squad that beat Sydney FC to win the Hyundai A-League Championship in May have been included as Victory prepares for its first game since the Grand Final. New signing Danny Vukovic has been added, while youth team players George Howard, Keiran Dover and Thomas Deng have also been picked. Goalkeeper Vukovic, who joined Victory from Perth Glory in the off-season, will wear the No.1 shirt. Howard will wear No.19, with fellow forward Dover in No.23 and Young Socceroos defender Deng in No.24. Meanwhile, Scott Galloway has moved from No.24 to No.3 and Daniel Georgievski has switched from No.15 to No.5. Of the absentees, Carl Valeri is suspended after receiving a red card in the Grand Final, while Nick Ansell and Rashid Mahazi are both injured. Matthieu Delpierre has only just returned to training and will remain in Melbourne, while Archie Thompson is out due to illness. Leigh Broxham will wear the captain's armband in the absence of Mark Milligan, though a decision on who will lead the side permanently is yet to be made. Victory commenced pre-season training on July 13, with head coach Kevin Muscat looking forward to a competitive return to action. "We're nowhere near where we want to be in terms of fitness, but the players have worked relatively hard in the first three weeks that we've been back," he said. "This competition has given our pre-season a whole different meaning and we go across there knowing we're going to get a difficult game."
Melbourne Victory squad: 1.Danny VUKOVIC (gk), 2.Jason GERIA, 3.Scott GALLOWAY, 5.Daniel GEORGIEVSKI, 6.Leigh BROXHAM (c), 7.Gui FINKLER, 8.Besart BERISHA, 9.Kosta BARBAROUSES, 11.Connor PAIN, 14.Fahid BEN KHALFALLAH, 18.Dylan MURNANE, 19.George HOWARD, 20.Lawrence THOMAS (gk), 22.Jesse MAKAROUNAS, 23.Keiran DOVER, 24.Thomas DENG Unavailable: 4.Nick ANSELL (injured), 10.Archie THOMPSON (illness), 16.Rashid MAHAZI (injured), 21.Carl VALERI (suspended)

The youth league is a reserves team, there to be called upon to reaplce senior squad players, except under certain circumstances, such as a severe injury to a senior team member where an injury replacement player can be signed. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Youth_League_(Australia) So any youth team player can be called up to play in the senior squad.

Sounds like we're taking a pretty inexperienced squad to Perth. I know we've got a fairly young squad anyway, but it sounds like we're going over with a lot of the Youth players ourselves. Quote:Arnold Confident Young Boys Can Avoid Banana Skin image: http://www.sydneyfc.com/di/library/Sydney_FC/e7/70/header_7or87rsnvhmq1or32uhsudxx0.jpg?t=-251702842Header 1/1 Head Coach Graham Arnold will instil his confidence in his younger players on Wednesday night, with his foreign contingent only just returning Monday, 3 August 2015 - @SydneyFC Comments While Head Coach Graham Arnold can’t name everyone in the Sorrento FC squad, he’ll be approaching Wednesday’s Westfield FFA Cup clash at nib Stadium like any other competitive fixture. Arnold labelled the match a “banana skin” for his young side only two weeks into preseason training, but praised the FFA’s initiative to move the match to the larger nib Stadium saying it will benefit his team immensely. “I think that it’s going to be a good challenge for us,” he said. “I have a lot of confidence in all of our young boys. We’ll only have two players over the age of 30 in Alex Brosque and Shane Smeltz, the rest are new players I’ve brought in or young kids from last year and I’m looking forward to seeing how we go. “Obviously the names aren’t that known to us except for his [Head Coach Jamie Harnwell’s] brother but at the end of the day once they get on the field it doesn’t matter,” he continued. “I think FFA have done us a favour [playing at nib Stadium]. I can’t tell you what Sorrento’s ground is like, but no doubt having to play on a smaller stadium and on a rough pitch would have played more into their hands. “The fact we’re playing at nib, great stadium, fantastic surface and the fact that we know it well, it’ll make it a bit easier. “It’s definitely a banana skin, but we’ve got to go over there and make sure that we take pride in the Sydney FC shirt, the badge and make sure that it isn’t that.” Arnold hinted that further signings were on the way as he confirmed he still has space in the salary cap for two more players as he vowed to continue his attacking philosophy in the 2015/16 season. “I think from day one to the end of the end of the season we developed a lot,” Arnold said. “I won’t go away from the attacking style and I think if you look at the recruitment I’ve done a lot of that is up front. “Our philosophy is if they score three we score four because we had that much power going forward and again with the new guys I recruited and you look at the boys I’ve got up front, I’m going to have plenty of sleepless nights trying to fit everyone in. I think our strike force will be as lethal as last year. “We’ve got two more spots, we’ve got a little bit of money left in the cap and we will probably look for another attacking player, similar style to what we’ve got and someone that fits in the budget.” Sydney FC take on Sorrento FC in the round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup. I'll just record it and watch it when I get home.

I was initially going to update these by round, but I found myself with a spare half hour this afternoon and decided I'll do it by match day. That way people might retain more interest. This is the tipping table for the Round of 32, match day 1. JoyfulPenguin currently leads the ladder on 6 points, with TheSelectew on his heels with 5. TSF was the only tipper to get a correct scoreline (Heidelberg 3-1 Broadmeadow) , earning him a bonus point. Just a reminder, you can still enter the tipping competition if you want, you'll just miss out on the opening 4 games of the Ro32. But with scores still tight, a few correct results and you can be right back in it. Remember the PM me the tips in the next 24 hours or so. I should have them updated against by Friday. :)

So apparently Balmain won't be selling the jersey at the game tonight. :( However, they are selling some scarves for $20. It's going to be a chilly one, so I daresay they'll sell nicely. I'll be picking up one!

Solely going with my heart over my head, but I'm predicting a 3-2 Cupset in the Edgy/City match tonight - Brody Taylor scoring a double.
