As I said, we lost 5-0 just 3 days ago. Other results this season have included the following losses: 5-2 6-0 4-0
We're in 9th and have the 2nd worst defense in the league. The top side in Tassie came here and played what you like to refer to as "reactive" football. The gap may have closed to the point where Tassie sides are capable of competing in one-off matches, but from what I saw last night if they were dropped into NPLNSW they'd be battling with Marconi for the wooden spoon. It may have just been an off night, but they certainly didn't show much.

I'm surprised you infer that SU 58 fans only turn up to watch the opposition.:-k I thought they'd be pleased to watch SU 58. That they don't choose to support their local team depending on the quality and status of the opposition is surprising. I'm a realist. We've got a core of 500 who turn up rain, hail or shine. The others turn up for 'events'. I dont like it, but it is what it is. It's a phenomenon that occurs everywhere, including the A-League. South Hobart simply aren't a big enough drawcard for these types. If we pull an A-League side then we'll get a few thousand. If we get WSW we'll easily be looking at 10-12k. SFC might only draw about 6k as the novelty has worn off after last season's match.

South Hobart keeper, all the penalty takers, South coaching staff, officials... none of them seemed to be too fazed about a few kids being kids. You'd think that'd be enough for everyone sitting at home to say "well, maybe it really isn't much of an issue at all?"

You do see some refs pulling it up, but they're rare. I just think the ref last night gave off the vibe of a guy who had a complete lack of control over the shootout for a variety of reasons. (not that it did much to change the end result imo)

Without inculcating you with comprehensive football analysis criteria, the NPL teams I've seen in the FFA Cup across Australia look relatively homogeneous in standard. The HAL clubs are usually another level up when out of preseason mode. The difference in moving up to pro football is pronounced.

Is it enough to disqualify SU? I not sure what the rules state but it probably isn't enough for that. It is however disgraceful behavior and I hope the FFA have a word.

Edited by scott21 : 5/8/2015 02:56:58 AM Interesting to see a neutral say this. In Tassie people are going apoplectic about it. In all fairness SU 58 were the better side and deserved to win. Triantis and Nickas are a higher quality than any of the South Hobart players. SU 58 had more control of the game. With those fans going over the fence and putting off the pen takers, I'm not sure whose jurisdiction it is to stop it - the ref's or the game match manager's? It is tantamount to cheating. I was surprised nobody turned up after a big crowd watched SFC beat SU 58 last year. What we do know is that Tassie, inexplicably, is fast closing the gap on Victorian and NSW NPL teams. Now that we have SAP, NTC and the same FFA universal coach education available here, things are looking up. so what in Europe when you have 10,000 people behind the goals for a penalty shoot-out, does the ref tell them to move away? tell them to stop cheating? lol... you guys seriously have a few lose screws in your head. the kids were booooing as well, I am sure you can label them as racists  Edited by 19-su-58: 5/8/2015 08:36:58 AMEdited by 19-su-58: 5/8/2015 08:37:16 AM The difference is, they were over the fence. in Europe, or anywhere in the world they have ball boys too.

I don't think a number of us are questioning the concept of ball boys. It is when they actively try to distract the opposition, appearing to a pen taker as moving just on the other side of the goal net. I wonder how you and Sydney Croatia would have reacted if the reverse scenario had occurred at Darcy Street, South's home ground? A scenario occurring where their ball boys became active distractors and you lost the pen shootout?:-k

Like I said, basically the same side went down 5-0 just a few days ago I have to admit, fair play to you, SC. Objectively, although I missed a lot of the 90 minutes, the SC 58 I saw last night, looked better than the SC I saw play the NPL final in Hobart. In terms of attacking interplay, they were infinitely superior. However, I've trained with the coaching panels who have coached against interstate opposition. They are surprised how much more competitive Tassie teams are against teams they used to be in awe of. The state FFA TD is pretty active in assisting coaches. A lot of modern coach FFA methodology is embraced. When you say SH were direct, they looked like there were out of gas in the extra time. The conditioning of the SU 58 was superior. The first goal from Chris Hunt looked like the result of an accelerated attack on the counter, and the third from SH was a result of a disorganised SU 58 defence, as well as effective wide play from SH. In terms of attacking interplay though, this SU 58 was decidedly superior to the one I saw a few years ago in Hobart. There were a lot of faults in movement of players off the ball - then . A few years ago, SU 58 didn't have attacking players the calibre of the Triantises and Nickas. There were also far too many straight balls played a few years ago. They may have been a lot tighter defensively though, keeping compact shape within and between the lines. On another note Blacktown playing against Metrostars, when we discuss relative standards, looked good playing out from the back. However, when building up through the midfield they played the archaic and outdated straight balls over the top. This makes it difficult for attacking players to have effective body position to scan the field of play and move or play forwards. SC do you ever notice anything about generic football beyond SU 58 and Croatian football?:-k Edited by Decentric: 5/8/2015 11:06:10 AM

One of the good things about the FFA Cup is that it is inclusive.
Good to see more interest in football.
An interesting phenomenon is that some former NSL clubs believe they have a divine right to be at the top level in football. Conversely, most other NPL clubs seem thrilled to be just taking part in a national comp.

Is it enough to disqualify SU? I not sure what the rules state but it probably isn't enough for that. It is however disgraceful behavior and I hope the FFA have a word.

Edited by scott21 : 5/8/2015 02:56:58 AM For someone who is knowingly using the image of a mentally challenged person as their avatar for a cheap laugh, you don't seem to have any problem taking the high moral ground. Calling kids "cheating little flogs" is well off the mark. They were ball boys who clearly through excitement moved from next to the goal to behind the goal. The referee is responsible for ensuring that there is no one behind the goal inside the fence. If he failed in his job, complain about him. Don't blame kids passionately supporting their club - which is actually the club that they belong to and play for, not just supporters. That is one of the great things about the FFA Cup.

Last night was a great night for the cup. I thought I would lose interest in Victory v Balmaine but even though they were outclassed they did fight and didnt park the bus. Was pretty good to watch.
Victory looked good after the first 10 mins had settled. Though Geria was a little dirty when he lost the ball a few times.
That Hobart v SU58 match looked mental
