Because most of there fans are the first to put the boot in other supporter groups with small attendances.

This, its only fair they get the same treatment. Cant even take it with out deflecting [-x

Bar Melbourne city Heidelberg isn't it the biggest npl/aleague crowd in the history of the Ffa cup?

I'm purely guessing on that.

Na there's a handful that beat it

mv/au
some ccm game
last year final.
sfc/su
rcs/mv

Would be around the 7th biggest attended.

I expect to see a sell-out next week at AAMI Park.

I think the it's time the FFA makes a stand, and if they really want to give this competition any credibility they should enforce all clubs to play out of their home grounds unless it's a grand final.

We're treating the competition as if it's almost on par with the a-league, by trying to move games to bigger venues. It's arrogant and delusional to think by doing so we'll get any real traction, especially mid week.

But knowing the FFA they won't give two fucks about that which is a shame as it would actually represent what the cup was meant to be about.

I would go as far as to say that even the grand final (if played during the week) should aso be played out of suburban grounds, at least until the comp gets so big that they are selling out suburban grounds on a regular repeat basis, and even then I would still stick to the burbs. That certainy would differentiate the comp from the a-league.

Last night was a bit of a farce. Hume city playing a "home" game effectively away from their regular home ground and instead playing at Victory's home stadium. Was pathetic. And once again, the ffa and the clubs were greedy.

Apparently the FFA Cup isn't considered a 'reputable enough' competition, or something because the fixture was played against a semi-pro team.

I'm sure if Manchester United played Lewes in the FA Cup, and they decided to throw on a couple 16-year old academy players, there'd be no problem with creating pages for them. #-o ](*,)

Yeah, baseless argument. Run into the person who flagged it many times. I don't think there's a bigger anti-contributor to Australian football than Simone001.

I got hammered for my first contribution on wikipedia, basically told to fuck off. But I learnt and ended up updating the entire Perth Glory and Melbourne Heart page. I've lost the passion for it now though, I did have big plans.

I thought he played very ordinary and see him struggling for much game time this season, based on last night's performance. Deng for me is a more promising prospect and three years younger.

I was a little disappointed with Geira and Galloway too ... both looked out-of-touch (on the ball and in defense). They need more game time, or move on to a club that will give them that game time (both would be starters in most A-League teams).

In regards to Hume City I thought Hegarty and Ingham looked handy players who could perhaps pick up A-League contracts in a few teams. Don't see them being stars but definitely add to some squad depth (Ingham is only 22 too). Anyone else catch your eye for Hume City (other than Markelis' hair cut)??

Hume keeper Oldfield was impressive I thought.

In relation to last nights game, at half time Mark Bosnich stated that the early penalty call for hand ball against Geira should have been given because Geira's hands were in an "unnatural position".

Bosnich uses these phrase to interept the handball rule in all of his feedback (heard him use it on A-League, Socceroo and EPL broadcasts). However the FIFA Rules do not use this term anywhere to describe a handball. Why does Bosnich believe that this is a determinant in a handball decision?

The handball rule uses the term "deliberate action" in regards to the awarding of a free kick for a handball. So did Geira deliberately block the ball with his hands?? Replays suggest not, more that the ball hit his arm which isn't a deliberate action.

Agree that it is in an official FFA competition, but since you used the phrase propping up the league, when in fact it is a cup competition, it wasn't a factually correct assertion.

As someone who doesn't know all the rules, can someone please clarify why it should have been a penalty call? Is it a case that every handball in the penalty area leads to a spot kick? I assumed this was the case, but then we get curious non-calls such as last night.

Completely agree, changing venues should be banned. However, Fox and the FFA are guilty of this as well and lighting is an issue. Too many NPL clubs haven't bothered to invest in lighting at their grounds.

In the mean time, the competition should change so only games being televised are played midweek with everyone else playing at 3pm on a Saturday.

Ive seen them given before for the same type of contact to the hand, does it mean it is right? Maybe not but i would not be upset if it was given.

I thought it was as well but in the end we still would have won if they had got it.

As someone who doesn't know all the rules, can someone please clarify why it should have been a penalty call? Is it a case that every handball in the penalty area leads to a spot kick? I assumed this was the case, but then we get curious non-calls such as last night.

Technically the rule book is that the handball must be a deliberate action by the player. Therein lies the grey area ... it is subjective what constitutes "deliberate".

I think the rule should be changed a little.

So a deliberate HB is a penalty, that's clear enough. Normally followed by a yellow or red.

But an incidental HB should be split into to classes.

Accidental HB with no effect on play, play on.
Accidental HB with an effect on play.

In the second case it would be a penalty if the hand contact deflected the ball away from goals or stopped an attacking player having a shot on goal. No cards issued in this case.

Same sort of thing happens in hockey with a ball striking a foot.

I like that line of thought, would clear up some issues too.

Doesn't hockey though have different awards for it too ... i.e. short or long corner. Suppose football could have similar, with either a penalty (direct freekick) or indirect freekick. Perhaps only indirect if the handball is when the ball is blasted at the player and hits the arm (i.e. ball to hall, or if the player is defending their face ... the rules do allow for personal protection ATM).
