Nearly didn't make it. Only beat Geelong SC who play Division 5 on penalties. Could have been a tasty cupset.

Their logo could use a major update too.

Call me crazy, but I think it'd be an awesome idea for the FFA to reward each of the 22 qualifying Member Fed teams with a courtesy graphic designer for a logo update. That way it'd look better for the FFA and Fox Sports, but it's also great for the teams who don't have cash to spare on a needless expense.

Gather around, peasants! Queensland qualification wrapped up last night with two games being played and we have two more teams entered into the 2016 competition!

Congratulations to Surfers Paradise Apollo Soccer Club who have qualified for their first ever FFA Cup finals appearance, with a 2-0 victory over Queensland NPL club Sunshine Coast FC. Sufers Paradise Apollo, who play in the Gold Coast Premier League, recognised as a third-teir competition, become the first non-NPL club to qualify this year. Some might say that Surfers Paradise Apollo got a touch lucky last night, as apparently Sunshine Coast had several first-team players out for various reasons - but they've also knocked out two other QNPL1 clubs in Gold Coast City (formerly Palm Beach) and South-West Queensland Thunder, so one could argue that it was indeed no fluke.

Surfers Paradise Apollo play at Lex Bell Oval which I don't think comes close to being FFA approved. Perhaps, like Palm Beach they'll have to use Robina stadium and close off 2-3 stands.

Surfers Paradise Apollo FC road to the cup
• 4-2 v Magic United (Gold Coast Premier League)
• 1-0 v Gold Coast City (Queensland NPL1)
• 5-3 v South-West Queensland Thunder (Queensland NPL1)
• 2-0 v Sunshine Coast Fire (Queensland NPL1)

Congratulations also, to Far North Queensland Heat FC, who have qualified for their third consecutive FFA Cup finals appearance with a 4-2 victory over Frenchville FC. FNQ Heat join Blacktown City, Brisbane Strikers, and Sydney United in having qualified for all FFA Cups. It is expected that the little group will be joined by South Hobart on Monday afternoon.

It will also be interesting to see if FNQ draw a home game. In their previous two attempts at the cup they've been drawn away from home against Sydney United (2014), and Oakleigh Cannons (2015) in the round of 32, and lost both times. FNQ Heat play at Barlow Park in Cairns which holds about 15,000 - albeit most of it standing - and should have the facilities to host an A-League club no worries. IIRC there was an NRL game played there last year, and it got a decent turn out and looked pretty neat on TV, especially with the mountains in the background.

Far North Queensland Heat's road to the cup
• 0-6 v Edge Hill United (Far North Queensland Football Premier League)
• 5-1 v Northern Fury (Queensland NPL1)
• 4-2 v Frenchville FC (Queensland NPL1)

Stay tuned. We find out Tasmania's qualifier between South Hobart FC & Devenport on Monday afternoon!

And then on Tue/Wed we'll have the 3 remaining Victorian teams.

Another day, another FFA Cup qualifier, another new debutante will compete in this years cup!

Congratulations to Devonport City FC on becoming Tasmania's representative at the 2016 FFA Cup, after beating two-time qualifiers and Tasmanian Victory League heavyweights South Hobart FC 1-0 earlier today. In addition to winning a place in the FFA Cup, Devonport have now won their first Milan Lakoseljac Cup - the Tasmanian state cup.

Devonport City FC road to the cup
• 0-4 v Glenorchy Knights FC (Southern Championship)
• 1-7 v Kingborough Lions United FC (NPL Tasmania)
• 0-10 v Somerset FC (Northern Championship)
• 0-1 v South Hobart FC (NPL Tasmania)

Some big wins for them there. South Hobart will be disappointed. They'd have been confident in securing a third straight qualification, and would have been hoping to do better than their last two outings in the cup, which fair to say they've been overall disappointing.

Honeymoon periods always seem like that.

3 Years tops.

Dug this little gem out from page 207.

We're almost at season 3, and the competition looks nothing like going south, folding, or disolving. If anything the FFA Cup is gaining more and more traction with each competition.

So tremble with fear, in your tiny little boots. There's already at least two beautifully ethnic teams in this years competition. They've names like Athena, and Apollo.

I'm going to keep bumping this post on the eve of each FFA Cup each year, until some "ethnic hooligan" stabs me through the heart with a flare. Which will never happen.

That's a bit a cheap shot considering wsw are the only club to have lost to a lower division so far.

It is absurd to expect they wouldn't strengthen their squad for such an event.
