That's a bit a cheap shot considering wsw are the only club to have lost to a lower division so far.

It is absurd to expect they wouldn't strengthen their squad for such an event.

He's right you know

Personally I am not bothered as any cup team is a good cup team. Perhaps even relieved, it gives them a bit of breathing space after the recent Greekpocolypse.

It does come back to what you said though, even randoms are giving bantz. Mostly from Sydney, strange.

Losing one match to one of the best NPL teams doesn't mean they don't have the funds, facilities and fan base for a licence. ;)

South can still get into the league. Bentleigh won't ever.

I am loving what the FFA cup is doing for football in this country especially at grass roots level. It is what we as football have been crying out for for so long and in my opinion has exceeded expectations so far.

Honeymoon periods always seem like that.

3 Years tops.

Dug this little gem out from page 207.

We're almost at season 3, and the competition looks nothing like going south, folding, or disolving. If anything the FFA Cup is gaining more and more traction with each competition.

So tremble with fear, in your tiny little boots. There's already at least two beautifully ethnic teams in this years competition. They've names like Athena, and Apollo.

I'm going to keep bumping this post on the eve of each FFA Cup each year, until some "ethnic hooligan" stabs me through the heart with a flare. Which will never happen.

My God I must be getting to some of you. Looooove it, just loooove it

Least SMFC are doing well in their respective regular season comp.

When Fury got knocked out it wasn't a shock because we are sucking arse this season.

One could argue that it's worse if you're a top team who gets knocked out. :p

Bentleigh is a better team than us at the moment, our squad and tactics are set up more for the whole league season, but in one off matches we aren't crash hot. Any fan that actually attends week to week knew we would probably lose away to bentleigh, but didnt expect to play like absolute shit... plus doesnt help when you have 1 proper striker and the only other one has trained once with the team

You're ignoring the elephant. That game could have gone either way and I feel as if that the result is of little despute. What is ridiculous is the scoreline.

6 goals to nil.

They were at full-strength, the only change they made from their last game was Adams (centre back, back from Oceania Nations Cup) in for Schroen (attacking mid, so Foschini moved from centre back to midfield) so even from the line-up they were looking to be more defensive and like they just wanted to grind out a result

We started the game with 3 defensive mids, we went out to try save the game instead of win it.

It seems like a feeling of resignation went through the club when we got drawn away at bentleigh, I remember in the lead up to the draw we were saying anyone but bentleigh and we will qualify, it knocked the stuffing out of us and we went onto the field last night seemingly defeated before a ball was kicked.

Despite being the top team in Victoria, you get certain teams you just don't match up well against, bentleigh and Pascoe vale are the 2 teams we like avoiding at all costs.

Pressure is on now to finish on top and give the npl playoffs a crack, direct qualification might be our best way into this thing.

the result sux's but apparently over 10,000 people watched live on line, if that's 10,000 devices the actual viewing number is probably 25-30% higher. not bad ... taking notice FoxSports??

Not to mean any disrespect to bentleigh who are clearly the better outfit on field but most of these viewers tuned in to see one club and it wasn't them, one of these years we will have a good run and I'm confident it's gonna make a big splash. Everyone seems to have an opinion of us, our results are closely scrutinised, and at the end of the day I'd rather be one of those clubs instead of one nobody ever talks about.

Looking forward to the backlash on Sunday.

We never talk up big cup runs. We realise the random nature of it all and that some years we will be lucky and others not so lucky, We have however been the top team in Victoria for the best part of 3 years, I think that says more then losing a one off game.

Regarding South, Bentleigh are the best team in Victoria at the moment. South will be eyeing off top spot to try qualify for next year's FFA Cup through the NPL.

And btw, TWO FREE STREAMS TONIGHT!! Got home late but looks like 300 av. tuned into FFV's broadcast of Knights vs Port Melbourne and 300 av. tuned into MFootball's broadcast of Hume vs Richmond!

Streaming is offering fantastic opportunity for our game, great to see the investment into it!

Home then away? That almost implies that the matches will be played over 2 legs ...

Home then away? That almost implies that the matches will be played over 2 legs ...

You know they're only played once, right?

No he means how they're drawn out of the pot, Home team first Away team second.

OK. OP has been updated. Been bed-ridden with the flu the last couple of days, and haven't had much time other than to sleep and shit to update.

Victorian qualification has been completed, and we welcome 3 teams in Bentleigh Greens SC, Melbourne Knights FC, and Hume City FC back to the fold, all for the 2nd time. Bentleigh Greens & Melbourne Knights partook in the inaugural FFA Cup in 2014, whilst Hume City qualified in 2015, and went on a rather impressive run. We also congratulate first-time qualifiers Green Gully SC to the competition, providing another shade of Green.

Bentleigh Greens had a fairly easy run to the cup, only playing 1 NPL1 club, yet comfortably beating all 4 of their opponents, by a minimum of 3 goals. This included their thrashing of ex-NSL and 1-time FFA Cup qualifiers South Melbourne 4-0 at home.

Bentleigh Greens road to the cup
• 6-1 v Diamond Valley United (Victorian State League Division 1)
• 0-4 v Goulburn Valley Suns (Victoria NPL2)
• 0-3 v Murray United FC (Victoria NPL2)
• 4-0 v South Melbourne FC (Victoria NPL1)

Melbourne Knights road to the cup
• 7-0 v Eltham Redbacks (Victorian State League Division 3)
• 1-2 v Oakleigh Cannons (Victoria NPL1)
• 3-1 v Dandenong City (Victoria NPL2)
• 2-0 v Port Melbourne Sharks (Victoria NPL1)

Hume City road to the cup
• 1-0 v Brunswick City (Victorian NPL2)
• 1-3 v Dandenong Thunder (Victoria NPL2)
• 0-4 v Melvern City (Victorian State League Division 1)
• 4-0 v Richmond SC (Victoria NPL1)

Green Gully's road to the cup
Entered in the fourth round of Victorian qualifying
• 1-0 Cairnlea FC (Victorian State League Division 1)
• 0-0 [won 4-3 on penalties] Geelong SC (Victorian State League Division 2 South-West Conference)
• 2-0 Heidelberg United (NPL Victoria)
• 1-0 Bulleen Lions (NPL Victoria)

and they call themselves an a-league club in waiting...

Losing one match to one of the best NPL teams doesn't mean they don't have the funds, facilities and fan base for a licence. ;)

South can still get into the league. Bentleigh won't ever.

yeah thats true. they may not have the squad at the moment but when they do get in the A-league, everything will change
