If he played for Victory or Sydney we would hear a lot more about him on Fox etc

It's true he is fragile but he looks like playing at least 2/3rds of the season and that's good enough for me

I do get what you mean. I don't think anyone (club included) want him to leave but we can't put all our eggs in that basket.

We all want him to stay but I have trust in gombau, I don't believe he will let this slide if he does not have a better option and let's be honest, gombau's connections in Spain probably have more pulling power then every other league coach in aus put together.

We are bringing in 4 kids from the youth league next year I believe so there will surely be some spare coin laying around.

Carussca may be here, he may not but I'm very sure we will have an outstanding number 10 regardless.

fair enough, but you need to build your team not replace like for like. we lost murdocca and improved by getting miller, we got rid of Paartalu and upgraded with Brattan, thats how you become better, keep carrusca and so add another quality player. Don't lose players if you don't want to. Do you get what I mean?

Lol hurt? No, I wasn't even in the cult of Flores to begin with. We all had an opinion along the lines of "we must keep him at all costs" but you know what? We didn't and we ended up getting Carrusca who is a quite different but also IMO far better player and life moved on.

If we want on going success we can't model our game around one or two game breaking players. We work in a salary capped league and those players will move on at some stage.

Personally the only person that would really bother me if they left the club would be Gombau. The coach is by far the most important attribute to a successful team in this league. Just look at your own club's form when you had a bit of a dud as a coach.

No player is bigger than the team, if blowing the bank on Carrusca means we lose out significantly in another area then it's just not worth it.

If the agent is being honest, then I think we will retain him, he could however be painting a picture that puts Marcelo in a good light if he leaves.

100% agree. The reason he came to Australia was because he hadn't found success due to his injury issues.

I do agree he'd be good at Sydney; they seem to love putting more people on the books through injury replacement

This is exactly why your club doesn't push for the Premiership and won't be a consistent winning side when your attitude is "we'll just find another quality foreigner". The club itself probably hasn't had the finance in the past or the cap space to do as such, but now when you are healthy, I wouldn't be settling for mediocrity.
Retain your quality players, give him the value he deserves and your side will flourish.
Let him go and you're right back to where you started.

Carrusca is quality, I would do everything I could to resign him, and as a fan, I would settle for nothing but his signature

In the top 5 players in the league when fit, unfortunately he's made of glass and therefore tends to play within himself to try and not get injured but still tends to miss a lot of football due to injuries.
Not worth investing to heavily in simply due to that fact.

There's more cash o/s but not the lifestyle. His brother plays for a local team, and Chelo likes the family bit, so more money might make him decide to stay here, but que sera, sera, in the end it's Gombau who'll win it for us

He deserves a pay increase, he is by far the best foriegner at AU, probably the best player in the squad.

If Adelaide don't offer him enough I wouldn't mind seeing sydney snap him up. Get rid of tiago and sign him up. Now we have petkovic, Jurman and ryall and plenty of good youth cb we don't need tiago at all sadly, he plays with a lot of heart but he isn't needed.

I like Carrusca, love what he brings to the team, but I also appreciate that the club has some financial restraints. They found Flores and Carrusca, I'm confident they can find another creative midfielder who won't break the bank. I'd love Carrusca to stay, because he's a player I (and my kids) love to watch.

When does Jeronimo's contract expire? I don't like suggesting this, but is he the most expendable out of the foreign players?

Why pay Carussca a shitload if Gombau believes he can get a spaniard to do the job for less?

I would hate to see him play against AUFC but if he is let go i am sure it is because Gombau has something already lined up. For example Vidosic out Lustica in who seemed to fit in with the system much more ( thought he now wants to leave ).

The issue in this case isn't the salary cap, but the fact that United can't afford him. Without the cap wouldn't change anything. He would still be leaving as Adelaide don't have the funds.

Yeah, the article clearly states that the CPI (Consumer Price Index for anyone who isn't sure) is in a different situation to what it was in when he originally signed, ie: not as good for him.

To me it just sounds like they've offered him the exact same terms as his original contract, but because the Australian dollar isn't as strong as it was when he originally signed, he's getting less value.
