We seem a bit light on for right full backs, especially without Rhys Williams.....who have I missed?
And yes, I know I have some left backs on the list....

Don't like the look of that list - slim pickings.

Franjic is really the only one I would really want to see. At the moment can't think of a RB playing in Europe. From the A-League take Risdon? Elrich? Hingert? Brillante? Really can't think of any good options.

Franjic and Wilkshire, i know in the last 6 month there has been lot of hate for Wilkshire, but he is still playing at a high level and his experience could be important , especially if the other older boys are moved on (neill, Og, etc)
Herd is a good option but not blooded and really injury prone,,
Joffa you forgot Sainsbury plays RB!!

Depends what Marrone can do between now and the WC. Franjic and Wilkshire will be the ones fighting it out but Marrone in top form would provide good insurance.

Franjic is better out wide. McGowan is versatile so he should be able to fill in somewhere.

Was it McGowan who said he preferred playing CB more?

Benjo wrote:Was it McGowan who said he preferred playing CB more? Closest I could find to a direct quote, albeit from 2011: Hearts website wrote:Australian ace Ryan McGowan insists he's happy to continue playing at right back - as long as he keeps getting selected!
The versatile star added another string to his bow at Ibrox on Saturday as Hearts won a well deserved point at the home of the champions in the opening fixture of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League season.
Taking over the full-back position from the suspended Jamie Hamill, Ryan impressed fans and pundits alike with a terrific performance, winning the Man of the Match award from Sky Sports in the televised fixture.
When asked about his preferred position, Ryan admitted that he was more suited to central midfield or centre half but said getting in the side was his priority,
He said: "I played a lot there when I was on loan at Ayr United a few seasons back, so I knew what I was doing.
"The gaffer told me what he wanted from me during the week, and I was more than happy to be in the team. I'm happy to play anywhere - as long as I'm playing".

Joffa you forgot Sainsbury plays RB!! +1, if most other players were playing at Wilkshire's level people would see him not playing for us as a crime. needs to be more discipline sometimes but hopefully being the most experienced player and playing against top sides will help this. if Williams was fit I was thinking we would only take 1 outright RB with Williams and McGowan able to fill in if needed but now I think Franjic and Wilshire should both go

Herd's a CM isn't he and Lowry a LB? :s
It's a pity Bojic has regressed this season and Risdon/Neville have been injured for most of it too.

Franjic has quality and was absolutely solid at RB for the Roos last game. Ange will pick him not just because of that but also because he can play RM and CM as well. I'll be thrilled to see him in the green and gold.

As much as franjic is a good RB going forward, in terms of the world cup are we going to have our fullbacks bombing down the wings? I don't think so, we need a defender I think chris herd should be given a chance was MoM when played there at villa.

I honestly think RB is Herd's best position. Every game I've seen him play there he has been outstanding at EPL level. He had an awesome leap on him which allowed him to cover for the CBs a lot when balls were whipped in to their box.
Shame he's always injured.

Franjic can be reserved when played RB and doesn't need to bomb forward if that's what the coach wants. He's quite capable of executing that instruction. But every RB must have that capability in Ange's system as is playing out from defence which is what Franjic is also so good at compared to other NT options.

I think they have, through complete lack of options, though Neville's never been a realistic chance because he's always injured. Bojic was as good as Franjic a couple of seasons ago. Risdon does need to improve more, but is way ahead of the rest of the back, there really is no one else. Mullen? :D Geria/Gallaway aren't up to it and Brillante is better as a DM.

yes, i agree with this. at least i hold high hopes for him on what i've seen playing for the youth teams and for newcastle this season. though i think midfield is his best position.
