NSW Draw announced. Now just WA to go.

Quote:
NSW Waratah Cup draw officially announced for 2014

The NSW Waratah Cup draw has been officially released, with all signs pointing to a juicy cup competition for 2014. As largely publicised this past week the Waratah Cup will be the qualification route to the FFA Cup, adding further importance to the announcement of the draw.

Over 100 clubs will feature in this year’s Cup, including 55 Association clubs battling it out in the first round of football which takes place on the 15th and 16th of March.

The Wanderers will feature twice in the first round, but it’s not the team playing in the Hyundai A-League. Balmain Wanderers and Glebe Wanderers will both have aspirations of a dream run through to the final stages.

Also in that first round a club proudly built by Sydney FC fans – Locomotiv Cove – will face off against The Ponds FC and could eventually take on the team they support through the FFA Cup pathway.

The significance of the Waratah Cup is such that seven of the eight teams who make it to the quarter finals stage will also then qualify for the national FFA Cup competition which was announced on Monday.

Last year, in a season in which they finished second from the bottom, IGA NPL NSW Mens 1 side APIA Leichhardt Tigers took home the silverware showing that the hotly contested Waratah Cup is anyone’s game.

Competitions Manager for Football NSW Troy McColl was happy with how the draw turned out.

“It’s worked out really well. The Cup this year will be more competitive than ever, especially now that the FFA Cup comes into play in for the top seven teams.

“The Waratah Cup represents the wonderful history of the game in New South Wales, and each year there are fairytale stories of local association teams beating their more favoured state league opposition.

“Good luck to all clubs that have registered.”

Thanks for the update. Some regions of the FQ Cup are about as secretive as an in house FIFA tournament!

Interesting that NSW have drawn the entire Cup, instead of doing a random draw after each round.

Also interesting to see that based on that draw, there is guaranteed to be at least 1 club outside the NPL1 that makes the FFA Cup.

It's damn near impossible to find regional Queensland fixture details and results. Football Queensland has updated the results and the next round games today:

I'm not IT-savvy by any means (so take it easy on me), but I've put together a simple website that shows all of the FFA Cup qualifying for every state, as well as a few summary tables.

It's a first cut at this stage, so I'd welcome any comments, suggestions, etc.

Adelaide City defeated Raiders 4-1 at the Croation sports centre to complete the 1st round of the Federation cup.

The SA teams are now down to 16 remaining for that one spot.

We'll probably see some more in Round 2, but beyond that it'll only be the clubs who have already won games. I suppose it's to be expected when all clubs down to State League 5 are forced to participate.

Still disappointing though.

The Canale Cup begins its 2nd Round tonight with some sizeable clubs joining the action.

Taringa Rovers managed to reach the Semi Finals in the 2013 Competition, albeit without the presence of the 6 local NPL clubs. They will be big favourites at home to Slacks Creek.

Annerley v Mount Gravatt, Souths United v Pine Hills and Moggill v Grange Thistle are all clashes between sides in Australia's 4th tier.

Also 1 match in the NNSWF Cup and 1 match in the Dockerty Cup.

Out of interest, there are already 9 NPL clubs around Australia that are out of the running to play in the FFA Cup. Most are seeded and won't play for a while yet.

They were all beaten by another NPL side. We're still waiting for the first FFA Cup upset involving an NPL side.

South Australia:
- Adelaide Raiders (beaten by NPL side Adelaide City)
- White City (beaten by NPL side Para Hills Knights)

ACT:
- Belconnen United (beaten by NPL side Cooma SC)
- Canberra City (beaten by NPL side Canberra FC)
- Canberra FC (beaten by NPL side Cooma SC)
- Canberra Olympic (beaten by NPL side Tuggeranong United)
- Cooma SC (beaten by NPL side Tuggeranong United)
- Monaro (beaten by NPL side Cooma SC)
- Woden Valley (beaten by NPL side Tuggeranong United)
