The Canale Cup begins its 2nd Round tonight with some sizeable clubs joining the action.

Taringa Rovers managed to reach the Semi Finals in the 2013 Competition, albeit without the presence of the 6 local NPL clubs. They will be big favourites at home to Slacks Creek.

Annerley v Mount Gravatt, Souths United v Pine Hills and Moggill v Grange Thistle are all clashes between sides in Australia's 4th tier.

Also 1 match in the NNSWF Cup and 1 match in the Dockerty Cup.

One more game that's on tonight is Caboolture vs Caloundra.

Keep me updated and ill post results on Wikipedia.

I'll put up any results as I hear them tonight. I made a twitter account to go with the website and I'll try and put results on there as well. www.twitter.com/pursuitofthecup

Shame about all the forfeits.

We'll probably see some more in Round 2, but beyond that it'll only be the clubs who have already won games. I suppose it's to be expected when all clubs down to State League 5 are forced to participate.

Still disappointing though.

Indeed. I can't speak for many clubs but I'm pretty sure my local club had to forefit because we don't have a ground at the moment. The council controls the reserves that we play on and they haven't even put
t the goals up yet because they're still being used for cricket, when we train we have to use runners instead of boots because we can't tear the pitch up. Council red tape galore...

It's a shame though because even if the team lost it'd still be good to participate.

Question on the Dockerty Cup. FFV have said that the seeding is based on the 2013 results, with VPL and State League 1 clubs entering in the 4th round.

So I assume that means all of the newly formed NPL clubs will not be included this year?

Is there a list anywhere of the NPL clubs and what league they were in last year (if any)?

FFV clearly want large participation by forcing all State League clubs to enter, but it's awful to see so many clubs forfeit.

There should be some punishment, like not being able to enter the next year's cup. Give the spot to some regional clubs, leave more byes, or reduce the number of rounds.

12 forfeits in Round 1 and 11 so far in Round 2...

Yep, I'd say FFA will come up with their own version of a website for the qualifying rounds.

On the removal of state cups, has it been confirmed that it's happening? I thought I read it would be up to each state to decide.

I don't think a decision has been made but rumours suggest it. Don't really see the point when you have a national cup going. Time will tell but I'd really like a website to keep track of these games as a priority. I feel this cup was a scramble to get it going.

Round 2 of South Australia's Coca-Cola Federation Cup is now drawn:

http://www.foxsportspulse.com/comp_info.cgi?c=1-10180-0-295612-0&a=FIXTURE

It includes 5 games between NPL clubs.

With the winner of the cup to take the FFA Cup spot, these clubs are only 4 wins away.

Anybody know why so many Victorian teams are forfeiting games? Shouldn't be that difficult for teams to go to scheduled matches.

Also, if you're looking for upsets, Modbury over Western Strikers is my tip.

Personally I don't think a National full-scale Cup is feasible simply because of the amount of travel required. Even if the trips are paid for, it's a significant time on the other side of the country when most of the players in lower clubs have day jobs. I think the State Cup is a better idea, though it might work to have a compromise.

My idea was to divide the Cup into 3 pools:
North-East (QLD, NT, NNSW, SNSW)
South-East (SA, ACT, VIC, TAS)
West (WA)
Or something like that. The NE and SE parts would produce 10 finalists each, and the West would produce 2 (they're on their own just because of geographical isolation and the size of the state), plus the 10 A-League clubs makes a Final 32. You still get a good mix of inter-state match-ups while keeping a limit on the distance away.

(Incidentally, did you know that the Northern WA league is actually called the Broomedesliga? :p)

I think you've misinterpreted.

From what I can tell, it'll be almost exactly the same in 2015 as it is this year, except that instead of the State Cups all having different names, they'll be called the FFA Cup.

E.g. I've read that the NNSW Cup will be called the FFA Cup from 2015 onwards. Still state-based games, just name change.

Incidentally, I don't think anyone picked it up, but it appears Prospect Knights have withdrawn from the Tassie Cup; Nelson is now listed as having a bye, whereas they were originally drawn to play the Knights.

This. And a national start time. No need to start travelling long distances early. That's just stupid.

Charlestown City 4 - 1 Lake Macquarie

Another NPL side out of the running for the FFA Cup. That makes 11 now.
