Edited by thupercoach: 19/5/2014 06:06:27 PM We'd be laughed out of town. Mind you, that was basically what NZ did in 2010. Iraq did that against Spain too in Confederations Cup 2007. Almost worked as the match finished 1-0.

Technically, it's possible to make the 2nd round with 2x 0-0 draws and a 0-1 loss. No it's not. Not with H2H sorting. Unless that's only used in Euro? Yes it is. Spain 3-0 Netherlands Chile 0-0 Australia Australia 0-0 Netherlands Spain 3-0 Chile Australia 0-1 Spain Chile 0-0 Netherlands. Spain finishes first with 9 points. However you sort the other 3 teams, one of them will finish 2nd with 2 draws and a loss.

I'm so torn. I'm all about the public image, so goals are great. However, I think I'm all for keeping the scorelines respectable. Three 5-0 losses isn't 'good experience for developing youngsters', it's bullshit.

Assuming (as seems extremely likely) we'll be leaving the WC after 3 matches, what result would you prefer? 1) 3 losses, but a goal or two for us 2) No goals, but a point via a 0-0 draw along the way? Personally, I'd go for option 1). Goals always make for a great highlight/memory, whereas holding a team to a scoreless draw (even if it was the current WC holders) would only be appreciated by the footballing purists amongst us. (I'm sure there's some way to set up a poll on this forum, but I can't see the option anywhere).
