To be honest, I'm not sure how they can azzaMVFC aside from Zutto09's suggestion - which helps somewhat and that indeed directly relates to the FFA and their scheduling. Some of the early arvo kick-offs and the extreme Summer heat. That would certainly help to a degree, but not too substantively - crowds were already very good/promising, even during those times, during early last season and the difference of a later kick off those days - I'm not sure how great?

In many ways guys Glory were or even ARE already 'near' drawing the kind of crowds we all hope to see. Their crowd average last season was the second highest in their A-League history - 9,400 or so may not sound that impressive, but it's only a few hundred off 9.7k they drew, season one of the A-League (When some of the lustre of NSL-era, still Nick Tana owned, Glory still lingered!)!

It would've been higher had the club not seen that Edwards fiasco/and or that downturn in results it did under Lowe circa Jan, which put us out of the finals race. 10k crowds and a new record level of memberships for their A-League time, is only just around the corner - better scheduling and a better run of results and Glory might do even better! No baby out of the bathwater needed, just a few more tweaks. Lowe's 're-appointment' was a disappointment to a few of we hard-cores or some such, but many of the thousands won't care too much, aslong as this season's team is performing and getting the results, playing in conditions and at times of the day that make for a good day/evening out.

Was a record almost 1k ago. Absolutely great stuff by the roar. Should go close to securing 12,000 members which would represent a 50% increase on memberships, on what was already a record last season.

Any roar members in this forum? Are ticket prices cheaper this season or is this genuine growth?

They have sold 1,000 memberships in about 2 weeks if i remember correctly. Pretty amazing.

Genuine growth thanks to their success, as well as the club being fully in charge of the membership program now. Allowing for the memberships to be paid in monthly instalments.

I agree... In particular because last years grand final wasn't anything amazing game wise.

Hard to prove, but do you think possibly some were converted by the wsw fans and the awesome atmosphere they created. along with the Brisbane fans helped to showcase something different to other sports?

There's no reason why Brisbane can't be a 15k+ team membership wise, the new membership portal should help them go close to that but price could also become an issue.

The change of ownership was a massive factor, after our first championship our owners left and the FFA took control and did very little in terms or trying to grow the club. The Bakries came in and have been slowly growing the club via a number of programs and initiates ever since.

I get the feeling The Roar are gaining acceptance in Brisbane .For a long time fans of other codes derided 'boring Soccer'.Nowdays the resistance seems to have faded.
Interestingly there are many Platinum memberships. There was virtually nothing left in the Western stand soon after the holding period for renewing memberships expired.

Yup this is very true. I think Brisbane Roar has finally established itself as one of Brisbane's premier teams, everyone know's who they are now and highly respect them, I've talked to Rugby League fans, AFL fans ect who may not like football and prefer their sports but are full of praise for the Roar and do go and see games from time to time.

Victory membership hasn't been updated since Thursday so will be well over 12,000 now considering Cat A cutoff was on Friday. Positive is that despite City tracking at 105% better than last season, they haven't taken any members for Victory. Bodes well for football in Melbourne.

Good work TBITM, I just updated the Sydney/City figures and added in the links so it should be easier to update from now on. Like last years.

http://membership.melbournecityfc.com.au/
http://wanderers.memberhq.com.au/
http://www.membership.newcastlejets.com.au/
http://www.melbournevictory.com.au/

Edited to include Victory update. Crashed through 60k and now over 5k ahead of last years membership mark.

Key differences:

Brisbane & Melbourne City main reasons for increase.
But bear in mind that pretty much all memberships went on sale later this year, and so i only think that the gap will widen.....

Overall great news.

Midfielder I rang the membership office last season, to sort my membership, late in pre-season. She didn't really know, didn't have a figure - knew about as much as I did and that was via the one Tweet from Brewer. Atleast it's alot better this pre-season, relatively speaking, and they're provided two, volunteered, updates via their Twitter or Social Media platforms.

If anything Midfielder, the guy/s who run the PerthGloryFC Twitter page and/or Jason Brewer's Twitter seem the ones to contact in regards to a figure. Seeings they are the ones who've shared such figures in the past.

Hehe, always an interesting head to head. Maybe one day, when Ipswich/SW Brisbane get their team, that city too can join the race? :p BR Hitting 10k is so close now, once they hit that mark it will reflect a remarkable achievement, from where they were. The re-organisation and pulling their fingers out to a degree, aswell as the steady growth on growth last couple seasons, is really paying off and there could be lessons to learn for some other clubs (Including Glory?)?

Woah, the Jets have surged forward today - 400 or so?! :o

Hopefully Arnold and a more well balanced squad off-sets any ADP-related drop off for SFC. That seems to be the case given how they're tracking to last season's record figures.

And I think it's safe to say (Is it not? :-k ) that Melbourne City's numbers have most definitely slowed. Clinton may post another chart to confirm or not in a week or so. But definitely last couple weeks, I think it's slowed?! It's been around the early 6000s a long while now. So I think the early surge CAN be explained in-part by existing members just getting back on-board, sooner via the Villa stuff etc...?

I think last night or today was the cutoff for renewing seats.

Plus we had the game last night.

Makes sense we had a mini-surge.

More on Melbourne City,

Clinton on 26th July wrote:

sales required until game 1:

9,000 - 36.49 per day
10,000 - 48.84
11,000 - 61.19

To date: 119 members per day

We can easily update that chart now, with our own visual imagination to see that worm has take a more horizontal turn - 2 weeks since his chart and only a few hundred members more. Which is still good growth mind - but not anywhere near the rate as before. I roughly estimate now that the rate has slowed to around 100 members per day now and that may continue to drop towards the marks Clinton projected for, as more time passes. Logically so, as City's real growth in memberships is still hard to test till they break through that 7-8k barrier.

Edit: They had a jump last season around mid-August, I presume that was some kind of cut-off? Perhaps a cut-off coming up soon, once again for City? Actually that jump in 800 or so was when they signed Orlando Engelaar?! We are still to see the impacts of Koren, if any - it's curious to see but Koren's arrival hasn't seen any additional bump up to the growth - if anything it's continued to slow?! But as we hope, Koren's impact will be more on the pitch and the off the field will flow from that.

Most clubs should gain 1 & 2k in the two weeks before the season starts, so I see melb city getting to 10k, roar 12k, sfc 10k, we forget there is still 10 weeks to go to the start of the league. We are definitely tracking towards record membership across the league, just imagine the surge when Villa hits melbourne.

Very sad the membership folk at PG don't know or maybe willing or are allowed to disclose the figure... I renewed my Mariners membership the other day and said to the lady on the phone ... any idea how we are going and she said just under or just past 3K ... I then said can I phone in a couple of weeks and ask and she said fine...

I remember when Nick Tanner was at PG and the club was always on the front foot .... owned its own stadium... great coach arguably one of the top five in the NSL era ... so sad JON and Mark Coral annoyed him so much especially when they have both come out and said the thing we really F****ed PG up ... re the flags and shed stuff in Hal 1 ...
