I don't see why they can't get to 12k if they get to 10k by Monday, that's 9 weeks to get two thousand members, with increased exposure heading up to the start of the season, they will get late comers.

All the low hanging fruit has been picked. In the lead up to the season, membership take-up becomes a trickle tailing out until it isn't feasible to buy a membership because games have started and the full value isn't there anymore.

Good choice of phrase. And I suspect this may be the case with most of the clubs, including Melbourne City - especially those, like City, who opened their membership's earlier? I think people over-state their projections a little, get a lil too excited over City etc... but it can be good to temper expectations a little, especially as the totals get ever nearer to existing club records.

Yeah I do agree with what you guys are saying. We have to remember that the majority of memberships bought at this stage would be renewals.

Therefore if last seasons memberships increased it would make sense that at the end of the renewal period we see higher numbers if you follow (larger pool of members to renew)? The growth will be whether we can maintain of increase the amount of new members to a club, which predominantly would sign up closer to season start.

Regardless the signs do look positive for most clubs. And until figures are nearing in on last years target/exceeding than we should probably keep a bit of a lid on it. So in that sense only Brisbane can we be assured that they have grown on last year. With melb city and Adelaide looking very likely.

Indeed Tambo and flipside, there's little doubt there's been a degree of growth across the board. I'm sure Phoenix would be around 2k or so too. Midfielder's list demonstrating how clubs are tracking compared to 'record setting' last season, shows just the good rate of growth most are showing.

IMVHO - If most teams can just 'meet' their existing club records, that would be fantastic, especially given many of those records were set last season.

Also, in all this, I hope this reflects that many of the A-League's clubs still have 'room for growth' or aren't quite 'peaked' in terms of their reach, yet. What we all REALLY hope to see is 'sustainable growth' too - so no 'bubble and burst' kind of syndrome. Hopefully the growth keeps on incremental or the member levels keep steady, even in periods when clubs struggle or there less marquees in the league. That then will be a true indicator of just how substantive these gains have been!

I REALLY hope the FFA can in-directly measure this, via the various levels of 'outcome measures' that can be measured these days. 'Internet Impressions' on the official sites/links that were advertising during the game at the ground and on TV aka the 'www.A-League.com.au/memberships' url? So were there increased views/hits during the broadcast of this site?

Were there an increase of membership applications during or in the on-coming 48 hour period after? It's a must that the FFA takes this as seriously as Gallop and co have suggested and seek to measure these things.

Things like 'Twitter #'s about it' too etc... all form part of the measurable 'Social Media Impressions' as too general 'Media Impressions'. Chat and lead up coverage of the game on 7 and other networks where otherwise there would be none - how is that measured? Attendance and viewer levels - how is that measured?! Hits and google searches for the A-League clubs... what else is there? Mentions of the A-League on news websites etc... The level of 'Cut-Through' in the wider media landscape needs to be measured, as too how any of that translates to A-League website visitations, let alone membership sign-ups etc...

ALSO - the number of hits on the Asian Cup website post the Asian Cup adverts during the broadcast (with HG Nelson)?

The level of impacts are not in the unknown, there are quantifiable measures of impact, especially in these days of the internet!

The following Frontline documentary, as seen on 'Four Corners' - all about this:

There was always going to be a jump in memberships this week, as it is the last for renewing members to to retake their seats before they are open to the public.

I'd like to know how effective playing trials in the local area are to converting fans into members, or retaining them. Many of my friends don't even think about renewing until the trials come around. If you don't play enough in your local area against local sides before the season starts do you risk your fans forgetting about you or does it make them hungrier. Sydney haven't really played around Sydney for the past couple of seasons compared to previous, yet memberships are higher.

increase of about 1000 since yesterday. Surely the number is much higher for some of these clubs now, id say the number is around 70K. Id expect WSW to break 12K by the end of the day. Also good to see City have cracked 6500.

To be honest i don't mind a New Zealand club, but if that club struggles to pull more than 8-9k per game, they really shouldn't be taking a spot from another regional team in Australia where the avg may also be similar.

It only makes sense to have a club based in NZ if they are well supported, and helps increase tv viewing figures greatly.

The NZ Knights were a disgrace, the Phoenix are certainly better, but their support seems to be in decline which is rather alarming. If their avgs drop again this year, some serious thought has to go into kicking them out of the comp.
