Melb City up to 7644 at 5pm today.

The Paartalu news certainly did give a boost (+72 since yesterday), especially given it has been struggling to gain 15 a day recently.

Hes hardly the biggest name out there in the greater scheme of things, but it just shows that there are some fans sitting there waiting for news to join up. A player which had some success at Brisbane may well bring some more hope I guess :)

Positive media interest at this time of year is hard to come across for our game, so lets hope we can continue to build towards the season.

Roar must have done it today ...

They're soo close now, aren't they! :o It's shaping up more and more as a neck and neck battle - even in our projects, we can't tell who will have more members - SFC or somehow, Roar?! We all get the sense that Roar have peaked and their growth slows up as they squeeze in the last few stragglers, while SFC's stragglers may number a few more and are arriving at a steadier rate? But when the Roar Lite Memberships kick in, that will be a second boost and they still have that few hundred head-start over SFC - albeit the Sky Blues have been gaining fast. :p

BTW Guys, when does the A-League.com.au tally update - I know it's weekly, but every which-day? Clearly not Monday! The next update to their tally should be very soon! Will that be the moment Brisbane ticks over to 5 digits?! :o

Edit: People first brought this tally to notice last Wednesday, so we presume the A-League Official Site tally update is every Wednesday then? :-k

Let's hope Villa arrives early enough in October to get some degree of Match Fitness or he will take a few games and perhaps a debut sub appearance to get into gear or else he risks an early injury.

Edited by GloryPerth: 15/9/2014 01:52:51 AM

It'd be funny if he injured himself and couldnt play for NYC.

I'm tending towards a negative nancy about this, but the closer we get to season start and the later he arrives here... the whole Lampard situation too and his thoughts - Despite 'official lines' I still get the sense there is an heir of arrogance about, don't you? This is a functioning, pre-existing team, who's undergone months of pre-season to get where they are. New signings, sure, including Paarlatu today - but they're here and training and participating in pre-season, gelling to JVS's tactical demands and plans for the season. Villa may be a super-star, but he's still a 10-game guest - and that's for better and worse - he could end up with a dozen goals during that stint, or 0, or indeed barely featuring in most of them.

We start to get the sense he will arrive the week-end before the season starts, so barely a week in Australia/Melbourne, then the City game? Hopefully he's a bit sooner than that, but if he feels he's 'soo good' that he can just rock up, rock the place and leave - ADP was humble and the likes of Kewell and co were 'humbled' here - there are just no guarantees he will light this league up, from get go.

I hope so, for everyone's sake, for the sake of Entertainment value, TV ratings, sponsorship, City's success, the league's etc... but if he's treating this as some glorified pre-season for his 'real' NYC/Man City gig/s then it could be a rude awakening?

And to celebrate they are now releasing a special 7 game membership pass which includes both home games against Sydney FC, WSW, Victory and the one and only Melbourne City game.

I expect membership to really spike now. With no doubt news being broadcast in the area I think it wouldn't be out of their reach to hit 12k by the start of the season. Or at least hit it by the first few weeks in.

If Brisbane perform well again this season and then actually went out there and brought in an A-Grade marquee, I reckon they could crack the 20k members mark without problems. And they could possibly even avg broncos type crowds.

However let's see how they go this year, I reckon they may even crack 19-20k avg if results go their way, the weather holds out for their home games and the quality of football on the park is entertaining like it has been the past few years.

Definitely ongoing success. The fact that they are now in their 5th year of great football being played has assured fans it wasn't a one off. As a consequence trust has been increased amongst many fans and have bought into the club culture.

On top of that, members have been pleased with the introduction of monthly repayments instead of it all being in one lump sum. This has made it much easier for people to commit to the club.

I just wonder how big they could become if they brought in a big player. In saying that, they are clearly proving that on field performance is making up for any lack of brand exposure a big international would bring. All to their own. Brisbane are certainly killing it up there atm.

Now imagine if there was a second Brisbane team. The derbies would be fantastic!

Brisbane should reach at least 11.5k by round one. There seems to be a great interest surrounding the release of the mega, lite and global memberships.

The best thing about cracking 10,000 is that these people signing up don't see it as a necessity like Melbourne Victory and WSW do. Those club fans have to get a membership to guarantee good seats or a place in the derbies. But Brisbane has Suncorp where, if you've been there, would notice that stadium doesn't have a bad view from the stands in it as well as so many seats available. This year we also have the advantage of 2 games of sydney fc, melbourne victory and western sydney at home. We could crack 19-20 k average this season. Which I would not think possible in 10 years haha.

A few 30k plus crowds will seal the 20k average i would imagine. And unless they have a disastrous season compounded with terrible match day weather, I really can't see them avg less than 17-18k.

Queensland in general doesn't have a membership reputation and relies on walk ups or single tickets, much more so than the culture down in Victoria. This could potentially bode very well for the Orange, because if they get 10k match day tickets plus 80% of members and your off couple of thousand from stadium members, I really can see them hitting that huge 20k milestone which would have been unthinkable only 4-5 years ago. At the time they were coming off from the worse off field season ever avg 8k or so if I remember correctly? That was at a time when management thought it would be smart to double membership tickets. Big mistake. Come a long way since then.

Last year we had a solid Syd FC, Victory and WSW. This year we can add Brisbane and Melb City and that rounds out all the big city teams in the league. Should make for a very interesting season.

Just on the growth by the Roar & City ...

If our memberships, crowds & rating all increase say over 10% [especially with Fox cutting back prices] ... League, AFL & SR, have all fallen this season across crowds & ratings not sure about memberships its mixed I think AFL down and league & SR up...

Super Rugby was up on TV in NSW thanks to the Waratahs, but early season crowds were awful.

According to Rebecca Wilson NRL was down about 2.5 million TV viewers this year over the course of the regular season (not finals).

I have heard it said if the Waratahs are strong Rugby is strong. But The Wallabies flogging by the Blacks at Eden Park has certainly killed off support.Surprise surprise Gold Coast public have voted with their feet against international Rugby and will be unlikely to get another game there for a long time.

On a lighter note I think the big increase in memberships is due to the excitement of the new Dugouts replacing those sorry old Bunnings chairs.
If only FFA had done this earlier ,memberships would have been a lot higher.  \:d/

Guys, Roar are clearly reflecting and have indeed reflected these past few seasons, that they're a club that don't need and are perhaps beyond the 'Big Marquee Novelty'. They're not a one-trick pony reliant on instant shot gimmicks like SFC perhaps. In the past, when their crowds lower or more variable, then yeah - and I advocated for a big Marquee for Roar back then.

But their formula for success is working not only on the pitch, but now off it. They've made the necessary organisational tweaks, of which the great increase in memberships has been the result, but their good football their team has played and strong record of success is finally kicking in via word of mouth, media impressions, good reputation etc...

It takes a while to build, or in their case, re-build a good reputation, but they're done it and the punters have been incrementally responding since - crowds and memberships steadily building in number every season, with much greater gains last season and now this season.

ALSO - Big player?! They arguably already have one of the biggest players and finest VISA players in this league, who is ALSO their Marquee player - Thomas Broich. Stars like Berisha come and go, but Roar's success is inpart built around Broich's creative talents. Aslong as Broich there and starring, the Roar will too and new blokes like Kurtisi and the returning Solorzano should provide new gems to thrive with the likes of Broich feeding them.

A portion of these may be pre-existing limited game pack people/members - just their usual routine of holding out for the limited packs, due to their schedules this time of year or financial limitations etc... but another portion, I strongly suspect, are a product of the 'Snowball Effect' and the more 'new full time' members they have, then the more people, who know those FT members, will be interested to partake on some level or another and a few of them may be the ones joining the 'Lite Member' queue!

Brisbane should reach at least 11.5k by round one. There seems to be a great interest surrounding the release of the mega, lite and global memberships.

I should have clarified. We need to buy a quality player, like we did last preseason when we brought Liam Miller or Matt Mckay. We're struggling with replacements right now. Sarota was the ideal.

Are the dugouts actually happening. I was at Allianz last Friday and doesn't look like any work has been done there yet.

Also what was the crowd up at Gold Coast for the Wallabies match?

Gold Coast is a massive black hole for investing in professional sports.

Seriously, it's meant to be a league town and even that they seem to struggle.

Can't believe there are people on here that would be happy to give Gold Coast a second chance after the whole fiasco that occurred a few years. Literally put our whole league back.

If they introduce a second Queensland team, i'm hoping it isn't too far away from Brisbane. And definitely not Gold Coast nor North Queensland. Big city teams is what it's about during the next growth stage of our game.

The dugouts they are talking about are portable curved polycarbonate units so no preparatory work is required.
