You sure TheSelectFew? Double check the tallies between today and yesterday and see most of that differential is from Victory growing from 17.6ish to 18.6ish?
But either way, point is, such initiatives DO seem to have some effect - even if other fans just write them off as cheap gimmicks, novelty bribes or whatever.

MrBrisbane wrote:City been kinda slow, nothing wrong with that. Villa how bout showing your face! It's kind of ridiculous that he's only arriving in October. But then again, he IS only a 'Guest' player - but reflects what a sideshow his visit is both regarded as, by his party and what will end up being! It depends how JVS has set up this City team during pre-season and what allowances he's made, prepared for, for the Villa stint. Whoever City's present #9 is, during pre-season, JVA may or may not be prepared to continue with him there, despite Villa's presence. It's presumed once Villa is there, that he'll feature up-top, but it depends on JVS' set up. City has many wingers or players capable out there, so odds are further he'd be upfront. But they can't be too reliant on a player coming in cold and who will only feature for 10 games, at the very most. He really shouldn't be a 'key player' in the team, but in other ways he may naturally be so? I just hope JVS and the existing squad, can work it out for the best. Some of the hype surrounding City threatened a genuine circus, trivialisation of the wider A-League, though much of those concerns have since been quietened. We all want for it to work out well, for the betterment of the A-League, so hopefully it does and the experience doesn't end with too many 'regrets'. Edited by GloryPerth: 19/9/2014 10:47:04 PM

4.5 k per week or say 650 a day and we would break the 100k for the start of the year ... unlikely but possible ...

Edited by midfielder: 21/9/2014 12:55:00 PM Victory will get 1k per week I think... Leaving 3.5 for the other 9... Or 400 each club per week. I think city, sydney, newcastle and Brisbane will go close... But not exceed that. And then the other clubs won't go near (wsw almost capped out as well) ... So 100k won't happen. I'd be stoked if we could beat season 9 total by round 1 though...

Interesting discussion guys. It's possible - I think we're reliant on Victory to still take up most of the slack and they have the most room to grow - especially reaching towards their own target of 23k members. So they need 5k more or so to do that, but with Fan Days, limited memberships etc... they could still do it. And when Tambo mentioned the cap - that reminded me of something I've brought up before, but not in this way - I think a number of the 'smaller' clubs, infact most of the clubs, have their own 'natural caps' to a degree too. Not that they have a limit, but usually, or season's past, they have had a steady, consistent, base and it may hardly change. I know last few seasons that's changed dramatically for some clubs, with growth on growth, but it's clear the likes of Glory and Phoenix are quite stagnant. Mariners did fantastic last year, great campaign and new club record pushing 6k and well beyond their 5k target. They are a bit behind their levels of last season, but just to meet what they achieved would be great. Even Jets too, partially due to off-field or what not apparently, many Jets fans suggest they have hit a natural limit, a bit lower than the highs and excitement of early Tinkler era - 9-10k at very most for them apparently. It's again only really Roar and City who are entering brave new world territory, well exceeding their previous/recent club records by quite some margin - their upper limits known! Sydney FC are a chance to surpass last season's record too. Adelaide United are an interesting spanner in the works - they could be approaching their club record and even pushing beyond that is quite possible. So brave new world for them too? But the club's member target was a surprising 10k a season or two back, so perhaps they inch ever closer to that? :-k

Club Membership Targets (From what we know, past couple seasons):
Adelaide United: 10,000 (60%) Brisbane Roar: 10,000 (Now exceeded!) Central Coast Mariners: 6,000? (Goal would be to exceed club record from last season (5,900-ish?) - 68%) Melbourne City: 8,000? (Club Record Exceeded?) Melbourne Victory: 23,000 (80%) Newcastle Jets: 11,000 (That's the club record, right? 68%) Perth Glory : 6,000 (I presume that's about the club record or exceeding it? 71%) Sydney FC: 11,000 (Goal would be to exceed club record set last season (10,500 or so?). 87%) Wellington Phoenix: 4,000 (72.5%) Western Sydney Wanderers: 16,500 (96%)
Total = 105,500
Now round up, for some clubs and the league's sake. Melbourne City, naturally, make their target 10k. Sydney FC could also realistically strive for 11.5k-ish (Set for rounding purposes). And Roar are already pushing 11k and could realistically hit 12k.
So that's roughly how your 110,000 member target is worked out and indeed how it will be achieved. The only discrepancy is AU, though they've made good gains towards their ambitious target. They won't reach it, but they may settle around 7-8k members. City, Roar and Sydney FC could still make up the difference to the overall target, given we don't really know their limits lie.
