FIFA President Sepp Blatter has confirmed that New Zealand will move to the Confederation of South American Football (CONMEBOL), after the World Cup 2014.

The transfer was widely expected by New Zealanders leaders, was confirmed by the FIFA executive committee, which met in Frankfurt.

"The executive committee decided that the transfer of the Football Federation of New Zealand to the South American Confederation was ratified," Blatter told a news conference.

"All parties are happy."

The president of CONMEBOL says he is happy with the decision.

"It is excellent, both from the point of view of New Zealand and South America, we have strong countries, in economics and in sport," said Leoz.

The neozelandezes match the best football in Oceania, but under the current rules, if they win the playoffs Oceanic confederation yet to play a playoff to reach the World Cup.

In 2009, won the race in Barehn the vacancy.

Already in the World Cup, ended his participation as the only unbeaten among 32 teams.

The move to the South American group, in theory, make it easier to access New Zealand to the World Cup, because CONMEBOL has four automatic qualifying spots, plus a play-off.

Blatter said the other federations in the Oceania group should consider the decision as an opportunity to seize need, targeting the growth and development of football.

"Now they teram new possibilities and new leadership," he said.

The head of communications Markus Siegler FIFA confirmed after the press conference, the OFC will continue with its half wave.

"Everything that happened was a team that changed confederation. Nothing more." Said Mr. Siegler.

Quite an old article, so grain of salt i think, also hard to find anything else similar, hilarious none the less. Would be an extremely ridiculous move, would this mean that ASB teams like Auckland City could play in the Copa Libertadores? This move would kill the Nix as well, as surely the AFC wouldn't wear it. Personally I'm still hoping for an East/West Asia split with OFC being included into East Asia.

Perfect time to replace Wellington Phoenix with South Coast Wolves, a second QLD team or a third Melbourne team if it happens.

This move just doesn't make sense to me though. South America gets 4 automatic spots plus a playoff - that's NZ competing with Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay (that's 6 that are in the current WC, as well as the ones that didn't qualify in Peru, Venezuala, Bolivia & Paraguay).

We saw how cruisy Mexico were against NZ in the playoff, but now NZ think it's a good idea to face away games in South America? Good luck in the Bolivian altitude!

This move just makes no political, football, anything sense.

Put Australia back in Oceania, and NZ to stay in it too. Make Oceania a sub-group of Asia. Best 2 Oceania teams over a league-type format enter into Asian qualifiers. Seed two groups for Asian qualifiers (forget east or west) and the top 2 from each group qualify, with the 3rd of each group to play off against each other for the remaining spot Asia would have from the half it has already + the half Oceania brings.

From reading the article above on stuff.co.nz it seems its ben clearly lost in translation. I was hoping he'd say something else about joining the AFC but ah well. We should find out about the Nix soon actually, there isn't long left on their contract, however surely the AFC would have advised the FFA in advance of their official decision so they could plan to replace them if that needed to happen.

 would make no sense what so ever, but this is fifa we are talkng about :d

I don't see what the problem with Oceania joining Asia is. When it comes to WC qualification Tahiti and the likes can just start in round one with the Asian heavyweights of East Timor and Tajikistan

Would be very expensive but I would be happy with it if it gave us another spot.

Because it's bloody expensive for American Samoa to keep flying their players and staff to the Middle East for qualifiers...

Ok well the easy way around that is to have the island nations play off in round one of qualifying and the winner of that, most likely NZ would join the established Asian teams in round 2. Simples.
