most people naturally though Krul was a penalty specialists before people started tweeting the fact he only had saved 2 in 20 previous attempts. The Costa Rican players would not have known this though and so this could have also added to their nerves.

If ones game plan is to risk losing the match, and lessen the chances of winning the match by keeping 2 subs for the penalty shoot out, in order to have a better chance of winning a penalty shoot out against a team like Costa Rica who didn;t have a chance till Van Gaal unbalanced his team in order to have an extra penalty shooter and he then gets congratulated like he was a genius. If he lost the match people would not be saying oh your a genius they would be crucifying the guy.

The Dutch completely dominated the final 45 minutes of the match. How they didn't score and win the game in that time was a miracle.

You haven't contradicted a single thing I said.
They had the most chances just before full time, then in the first period of extra time they didn;t do much. But Costa Rica didn;t get a look in as well. When Huntelaar replaced a defender, with Van Persie left on for the penalty shoot out, while the Dutch also got more chances they for the first time looked vulnerable and as Van Gaal said they had their one big chance at 117th minute mark and they also got their first corner. So Van Gaal by making that sub and not taking off Van Persie he gave COsta Rica a look in for the first time in the match.In my opinion if they had made an attacking midfield on for a defender in the first period of extra time, and then Huntelaar for Van Persie. They would have won run away with the match.

You were implying that the Dutch were risking the match and lessen their chances of winning by saving substitutions for the penalty shootout. I think that's rubbish because they were all over Costa Rica without the subs. Whether they brought on a couple of fresh legs would have made little to no difference, as the Dutch were creating more than enough chances to win. Costa Rica had 1 chance in the entire match.

If anything, using their substitutions for the shootout increased their chances of winning the match. Had they used up all their subs in extra time and not scored, Costa Rica would have had a much greater chance of winning in the shootout.

Why hasn't anyone that were supporting the Costa Ricans pointed out the bad gamesmanship in rolling around on the floor, calling for stretchers to waste the clock and slow down the attacking momentum?
