The myth and fraud that is Brazillian football officially died today. Has been dead since the 80's but the 'Jogo Bonito' marketing machine at Nike have been fooling the world since then. Shame and disgrace to the game. Brazilian players and coaches are only worried about their next big fat pay check nowdays.

It'd be splitting hairs.

Fernandinho was an absolute turnstile and Maicon is hopelessly out of shape.

I love being right about their midfield. The Chelsea and Spurs fan boys were getting in their ears and they choose some incredibly uncreative players (from the clubs above, bar Oscar). Players who won't really work hard half the time.

Coutinho will be saying I told you so.

Can't believe with the defence they had, they lost 7-1... Would have been a good game to watch.

Having lived through this for the past 4 years of my life, all I can say is THANK FUCKING GOD. God the theatrics have been killing me. Júlio César was hailed as a national hero after the penalty shootouts. People have been giving death threats to Zuñigas infant daughter. This is exactly what Brazil needed. A fucking wake up call. As someone pointed out, they thought it was their divine right to win the cup on their own 'holy ground'. But fuck it has shit me to tears to see the amount of crying and drama put up by the Brazilians.

As much as I love Brazil, this is what they deserved. Today showed everything that is wrong with not only the Seleção but with Brazil too. Thanks Germany!

PS. Socceroo_06 - 'volante' is the defensive midfielder, while literally it means 'steering wheel' I think something has been lost in translation there, I wouldnt consider those players that you mentioned 'volantes' they would be considered meio-campo/armadores.

This game was won and lost in the minds of the respective players even before kick off. When a squad is calling in psychologists 3 days before a World Cup Semi, its obvious that there are mental issues. Was obvious from Marcelo's own goal facial expression at the start of the tournament.

I don't buy the fightball accusations either. Netherlands are a better exponent of fightball than anyone else in the world at the moment and a far cry from Total Football for the past 8 years, yet they were runners up and semi-finalists here.

Brazil simply played with fear.

This was 1998 Ronaldo Mark I on a squad level.

I thought it means more of a central/attacking midfielder [as it does in Argentina see Riquelme, Aimar etc.] but didn't know it means defensive midfielder in Brazil.

I any event, my point stands.

Not really, his presence wouldn't have changed anything at all, especially considering Oscar was the only Brazilian who even came close to a decent performance today.

This is a bit reactionary imo, I've always hated the guy but to be fair to him he was having a pretty decent tournament up until this farcical display (two goals to his name too), but the entire midfield and back line were completely dominated so singling one man out is a tad harsh.

David his best position is as a defensive midfielder, scoring 2 goals has nothing to do with his defensive task, he was the captain and abandoned ship.

I agree in regards to him not being suited to CB considering his terrible positional sense but alongside Silva he has had a very solid tournament up until this point, the fact he scored twice is an added bonus that I pointed out to illustrate the fact that he has been far from the worst performer.

The way Scolari has coached this side, Brazil should've Menenzes (or what he's name is) the former National Coach of the Brazil at least he tried to change the way team played from what Dunga was doing, but Scolari has changed it all around again and look the shadow of the team that won the WC in 2002. Without the stark in quality of course, credit to Germany though they played very well.

The Brazillian team have not played as a unit since the 80's, however have managed to still get the results since then by virtue of producing world class midfielders and strikers.

However, since they have decided to focus their attentions on becoming a more physically imposing team and selecting the players to do that, they don't have the individuals to turn the match on its head like they used to.

This result was a long time coming.

That has come thanks to the idiotic technocrats that believed the game has become more physical and so the major academies in Brazil they stopped selecting technicians and playmakers and started selecting more physical imposing 6 foot tall box to box defensive minded players.
Also at youth level that focus has been on results rather than developing players, other words over coaching the players.
But they haven't watched how its done in Europe with the likes of Spain, Germany showing the way that jogs bonito or tika tala can still exist but they don't get it. ](*,)

How ironic is that we in Australia are trying to select more technical players at youth level and Brazil is going the opposite way, although different levels but still….

@Barca. I would trace it back all the way to 1982. That World Cup changed their approach totally. Having such gifted players everywhere on the pitch, hottest favourites of any World Cup, and going out to Italy who many were saying would not even get out of the groups really forced them to re-assess their football philosophy.

By not holding onto the ball and just parrying to a German strikers feet for the second goal. And his positioning the whole game was woeful , he spent a lot of time running along the line, leaving gaping holes for the German strikers to exploit
I'd be dirty about that if he was my teams keeper in a park game.

A loss was coming for Brazil and they were lucky to get that far based on their performances.

To lose 7-1 though is insane. Germany were made to look great by a defense that was the softest I have ever seen play at a WC. Even Australia's inexperienced defense at this WC looked calm and composed in comparison.

I agree that Brazilian football no longer plays with any flair, and in this WC were far too focused on long balls to a rather toothless attack.

I am scared for the safety of those players. It will be a very scary place to be with the amount of pressure that was on the team to win.

I don't think any of the above would have been starters or been any sort of improvement tbh, considering the defensive implosion this morning there could be a case for Miranda and Luis being hard done by but without the benefit of hindsight it's not that harsh a call leaving them out tbh. Coutinho is a handy player but I really don't see how he could have offered any improvement on Oscar who is hardly a physical player either.

Miranda and Luis are both better defenders than Dante and Marcelo imo. Lucas is also a good shout but probably about level with Willian and Bernard. Coutinho not better than anyone in the squad.
