I thought Messi lost it for Argentina, he does nothing off the ball, and when you then play 2 up front in front of him then he plays in no mans lands is less effective in attack and tires out the rest of the team because players are exhausted from covering for him. Germany were disadvantaged by the loss of Kheidera who is very fit, Argentina could have had an advantage without Messi on there. As it was the game was even and Germany took one of their chances.

Weird how the German WAGs were on the field with their blokes straight away in their hour of success, but the Argentinean players' WAGs are nowhere to be seen...

messi is statistically the best in the tournament too
http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/247/Tournaments/36/Seasons/3768/Stages/10274/PlayerStatistics/International-FIFA-World-Cup-2014
he has been a one man attack for a poor argentina attack all tournament

ironically it was messi that blew a golden chance to win it

Germany the better team though

The right result. A little disappointed as I tipped Argentina at the start of the tournament. :(

Germany hadn't won a major tournament since reunification being close on quite a few occasions and when it happens it is the first players born after that event who combine for the goal. It just lines up nicely, that is all. No need to over analyse my statement, this is the fourfourtwo forums not some educated discussion.

Also it would have been nice if Kroos won the Golden ball being the one East German born player in the squad. Not saying they should give it to him for just this reason but I actually think he deserved it. Most passes in the comp and his set piece delivery has been amazing with Germany scoring off 5, Howedes very close to making it 6 today.

EDIT: Lahm may have gotten more. I still think Kroos was better overall with his forward play

Germany won Euro '96 though.

Still, glad to see the best team win - the Argies had far and away the easiest draw of any major team, and were still very unconvincing despite this.

Come on

When people talk of major tournaments, the European Championship is almost invariably included along with the World Cup.

Couple of things.

Thank goodness it wasn't decided by a refereeing howler and it was great it didn't go to penalties.

Defence by both sides was terrific and it was always going to take a special bit of magic to get a winner. Great strike.

The referee was excellent also.

Schweinsteiger at the end was a pain in the arse winding the clock down, hobbling off at 1km/hr and then running back onto the field.

But well done zee Germans. Arguably the best team over the tournament won it.

Very disappointed he got player of the tournament. Out of the short list it should have been muller who gave a complete performance, but it was shocking that james rodriguez wasn't even listed.

It will be interesting if rodriguez will turn out to be the same as CR7 and Messi, were the team is all about them. Muller showed in this world cup that he is willing to play for the team.

It seems ridiculous on face value but considering the logic he uses to defend that claim it's nowhere near as retarded as this imo....
