Watching sportcentre and the main story, ahead of all professional sports, is the little league baseball series
I've always wondered if people think this is great to watch or just wrong on every level
To me its really wrong and scary that Americans froff it

As long as the theme is sports related why not? Might give some youngster to earn a contract and make the big time. As long as its not like some creepy mini beauty pageant where kids are sexualised then its all good.

This. Those toddler beauty pageants are just fucked. Those parents need to be sterilized and the children sent to psychiatric help for all the trauma they've been through.

What I find astounding about baseball is that kids can get offered multi million dollar contracts just to go for a baseball scholarship with a college if they view they have potential to make it all the way to the MLB.
So in other words even if they don't make the MLB they are still a couple of million dollars up.

I'm not sure that actually happens. I think you're are talking about young guys signing with MLB clubs and playing in the minor leagues, which I know something about.

4 of my brothers club mates have within the last 18 months signed deals with MLB clubs while playing junior baseball in Australia. They are paid a sign on fee, in the region of $500k and sign a contract with a base salary of around $60k. They will then spend the next couple of years playing with the clubs feeder teams and if they perform and develop as expect may one day make the MLb.

I used to know a guy whose mate's son got picked up by a college. $2 million scholarship.

It does happen. No joke.

I met a kid last week (16) who had received a couple of scholarship offers like this, but his manager was telling him to hold off for a better offer.

At first i thought he was talking shit, but it does happen.

Makes me wish I took up baseball...

Unlike football, only a small number of college baseball players actually go on to join a Pro team.

And I don't think college players are actually allowed to be paid for playing, I think it's the same for football. So that must be a pretty expensive college to have a $2 mill scholarship.

Colleges can afford to dish out that sort of money. The cost of studying at colleges are ridiculously expensive compared to here at university. Here it is cheap as chips compared to the States. Most people can't afford a solid college education let alone go to somewhere like Harvard which is almost plain impossible to get into.
The education or the piece of paper they have though is the fallback option in case the kids don't make it all the way to MLB. Its part of the reason of how a scholarship works. And you're right most of them don't make the big time so the education is a safety net.

Tuition plus accommodation plus school costs plus living costs plus stipend over 3-4 years coil potentially run to $2mil

Ok yeah that could be it, but it's definitely not $2mill in the pocket of the boy.
