The work this campaign has done for ALS is fucking awesome.

Correct me if I am wrong, they say that you have 24 hours to do the challenge or you have to donate $100 to the ALS foundation.

Why not do the challenge, and donate $100. Or even make it such that these celebs make a fundraiser out of it. So for example, Mr X will spend 5 minutes in a ice cold bath tub from neck all the way down, donate to his challenge, like what they do for Movember or something.

Just a thought.

Most celebs do the challenge and donate money. The doing it in 24 hours or donating money is more for regular people I think.

Either way it's done it's job. In the 10 day period ending last Thursday ALSA raised something like $160k compared to $14k the same period the year before.

Of all the people to actually GET IT, Charlie fucking Sheen.

I've got a few problems with this. One is that not enough people know what ALS is. Yeah, this promotes awareness and all, but I think all too many people are just doing it, not donating and not learning anything. And ALS is a horrible disease which deserves more attention. I mean, Stephen Hawking has suffered it for 50+ years!

The second problem I have is that this is literally peer pressuring and bullying people into donating to charity. That's not charity, that's something the catholic church does.

But hey, we got to see Kaley Cuoco do it in a white tank top, and it's raised some $15m so that's always a plus.

What bugs me is all the white knights who keep going on about how no one is actually doing to for the charity and no nothing about the 'ALS' when we don't even call it that in Australia.

It's just easier to call it ALS rather than MND or Lou Gehrig's and muddy the waters over something people know SFA about.

MND was what killed my grandmother so I've had plenty of personal experience in how horrid it can be. If this current charity trend raises awareness and keeps bringing in donations, hopefully they can find a treatment or cure.

Personally did mine about 2 months ago when it started here and in NZ. At that stage it was raising money for cancer charities of the persons choice. Not sure at what point it changed but any money for any charity can only be a good thing
