Fuck me, it's not difficult. "spade" - as in 'the ace of spades' being used to name someone is racially vilifying - no two ways about it for what should be obvious reasons. It was still common term all the way up to the late 1980's when it was still cool to be a massive fuckwit to everybody else that was slightly different.
These constant references to 19th century civil-wars being the exclusive domain of a racial insult are absurd to say the least.
