We didn't have a TV when I was young so I didn't know there was such a thing as professional football until I was about 11. When we played in the park my friend's pretended to be Kewell, Ronaldo, Viduka, Bosnich, etc. playing for Man United, Barcelona and Brazil I had no idea what they were talking about.

1978 - Sunderland '78 vs Sunderland '73, testimonial for Ian Porterfield (scorer of winning goal in '73 cup final). Dad took me because it was cheap. No idea what the score was, all I remember was the shock as a, gasp, black player, came on as sub for the '78 side, and the hilarity of our top scorer taking a turn playing in goals for the last 20 minutes. Oh, and the fact that the club's all time legend, who won us the cup with his amazing keeping, didn't play because he had a bad back.

Playing FIFA / Pro Evo to see what happens when you try to get your players red carded as much as possible and seeing at what point the game forfeits when you have so many players sent off. I love applying the Muscat style tackles on those games....

Monday night EPL highlights on SBS.
Remembering how jealous I was of a guy in my under6s team because his parents and grandparents gave him $10 for every goal he scored in a game, whereas my Dad tried to teach me the lesson of it being a team game and everyone contributed to each goal etc so I go sweet f all when I scored.
Newcastle Breakers/United games. The most vivid memory I have is on the north or south hill at Birmingham Gardens there was this gigantic model boat just sitting there. I also vividly remember Greg Owens scoring an absolute barnstormer from outside the 18 yard box. I also have vague memories of being there when United came to town and let all the flares off and generally reaked havoc, but not a heap.

For me it's probably when Australia played Canada in 92-93? I remember it being on the TV. Also EPL highlights of Leeds, Forest, Newcastle and Manchester United.

Once set myself a challenge of having so many players sent off each game for slide tackling the keeper that every game was forefeited.   Scoring those screamers from half way too. Just had to power the shoot button just right. Taking the likes of Kazakhstan to the World Cup. New FIFAs are lame. Bring back the ability to slide tackle the goalkeeper FFS  98 Road to world cup had the intentional foul button on 64. Had to forfeit.

Running around as a 3-4 year old at the local ground while my older brother played in the u6's.
Also applies for AFL and rugby league as they were being played on the opposite field. They both were where the strange people were doing funny things.

4 years old. Playing in my brother's U-6 side and scoring a goal by dribbling the whole way over the line.

Post your first memory related to football.
Mine: Playing an earlier FIFA (might have been 02 or 03)
