The magistrates that have acquitted him of serious charges ( including accessory to murder) in the past have blood on their hands.

Sydney siege gunman identified

Police have authorised the naming of the armed man who has held up to 25 people hostage in central Sydney.
Source: AAP
16 DEC 2014 - 4:55 AM UPDATED 59 MINS AGO

He is Sheik Man Haron Monis, who is a self-styled preacher of Islamic State on bail for accessory to murder.

Monis, 50, died at the end of a 16-hour siege at the cafe early this morning, but was no stranger to Australian authorities.

He first came to public notice in 2010 when he faced charges for sending offensive letters to the families of two Australian soldiers who died in Afghanistan - and the family of a trade official, Craig Senger, who died in the 2009 Jakarta bombing.

As a result, he was convicted of 12 counts of using a postal service to cause offence, ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.

Monis was banned from sending similar letters to the relatives of British soldiers, but claimed in court at the time the condition was a breach of his freedom of speech.

Monis' former lawyer Manny Conditsis describes him as a "damaged goods individual" with an ideology that clouds his common sense.

Monis was also accused of being an accessory to his ex-wife's murder and faced charges on 40 offences relating to the indecent and sexual assault of several women in 2002.

He was granted bail and was set to reappear in court in February 2015.

The reports are this guy was totally rejected by the Muslim community for decades. He practiced 'black magic' and appointed himself a 'spiritual healer' and a Shiek with no formal recognition. He's no more a Muslim than Lord Monckton is a climate scientist.

Terribly sad these people died, I have to applaud NSW police for their control of the situation and minimising the consequences. Sadly right from the start it appeared as though there would be at least one dead.

I swear there were at least half a dozen people on my wall with the whole "if it was an Anglo holding a Bible it wouldn't be considered a terrorist attack" as if that solved a single fxxxing thing.

Its an act of terrorism because he had a gun, was holding hostages and wanted to speak to the prime minister.

That's terrorism.

Wouldn't have mattered even if he had a tin foil hat on.

So a man holding a gun to his ex-wife's head wanting to speak to the PM about getting to see his kids again is not just domestic violence now? Bit of a wank.

The words used were appropriate. Politically charged madman, but definitely not terrorist.

100% terrorism

Terrorism

In the international community, terrorism has no legally binding, criminal law definition.[1][2] Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts that are intended to create fear (terror); are perpetrated for a religious, political, or ideological goal; and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (e.g., neutral military personnel or civilians). Some definitions now include acts of unlawful violence and war.

According to his former lawyer, he was indeed a cleric in Iran before gaining political asylum in Australia because he spoke out against the Iranian government. A disturbed man yes, but not a complete phoney when it comes to being a Muslim cleric.

That still doesn't add or take away anything from this horrific incident. Every person of race, colour & creed should stand together united in the face of this and refrain from pointing the finger at a single community who have not only denounced this act and the person behind it, but do not promote acts of violence against anyone. period.

Which may be true but "Terrorism" in its modern interpretation (and the interpretation that the western media use) is that of people of Islamic faith carrying out acts of violence and mass hysteria in the name of Islam.

So apparently it all came to a head when one of the hostages noticed the gunman dozing off and made a grab for the gun which then led to the gunman to start firing in the struggle. That hostage was the 34 year old male who passed.

A lot of questions yet to be answered. Why was this guy on bail with a long history of violence and on a violent charge? Why did it take so long to clear up the speculation? If things were going to come to a head why did it take so long? Could the deaths been avoided? Just a few questions that come to mind.
